Hi girls, thought the old thread was in need of a spring clean, plus, I'm sure if my memory serves me right, one of us had our May-due baby in March (Macoco???) so someone is 2 soon....!

OK< so I know it's me again, but I have to tell you what happened to me last night (apologies FBers, you're getting it twice).

DD1 woke up at 1am crying out in pain saying her arm was hurting. I had previously heard a bump and thought she had fallen out of her bed. I went in (obviously still half asleep). Her vest had got a bit tangled and the 'strap' of the vest was half way down her arm, so in the dark, what looked like the middle of her upper arm was actually her elbow. However, I didn't realise this at first, and starting calling out to DH to get up as DD1 had broken her arm....(cos I could feel movement, which I thought was the middle of the bone). He was as delirious as me, and I'm shouting at this point 'quick! She's fractured her mid-shaft humerus!!!'. DH comes rushing in, DD1 is crying saying it hurts....I'm looking around for something to splint it with so that I can take her to A&E, then DH calmly says.........

"it's her elbow"

Yes, we did see the funny side and we both couldn't stop laughing for ages. DD1 was quite bemused by the whole thing.

This morning she asked me 'Mummy, did I break my arm last night?"

Cue me cracking up again and telling her that no, Mummy was being a bit stupid!!

It wouldn't be so embarrassing if I wasn't a bloody physio!

Great story Lucky You must have been totally freaked out!! LOL at her asking you if she had broken her arm.

Yes, indeed my wee monkey is 2 on the 26th (He should have been born a full 4 weeks later!) I think we're going to have a quiet day, just us and then maybe a picnic in the park the day after (Saturday) if the weather's nice. We had a big family party last year 2 days after the actual day, partly because the extended family hadn't been out to see the house before and so on. But the weather nearly ruined it (garden party) and it was all too much hassle. Also, being freelance I don't know how free I'll be to be doing all that organising beforehand.
What are other FMLs thinking of doing?
Big news here is we're sort of half arsedly NPP (not preventing pregnancy). I'll probably get cold feet and we'll use contraception from time to time but certainly we have been careless . We were going to wait til easter but I reckon it'll take a while so, here we are, not being very careful and seeing what happens.

Baiyu how are you feeling? How long we're you trying before getting a BFP, out of interest?

Hey pipoca we were TTC for 4 months so not too long, felt like ages though! Still feeling a but rubbish but not puking so that's a godsend, just feel queasy and knackered almost all the time.

BWC- thats for the advice about the teeth (I had my wisdom teeth out on wed and was maoning that I am still feeling discomfort, no one told me that it would still be tender so long afterwards).

Getting sick of eating soft food now and having mainly liquids.

DS2's birthday is 22nd May and have already booked his party in at a cafe with a soft play area for under 5s. We went the other day, been meaning to check it out for ages and I thought it would be hassle free, his birthday is a Saturday so thought it might get booked up and impulse booked.

Off skiing Saturday and need indoor shoes/slippers for the chalet for DS2. His feet are so fat I couldn't get him any slippers easily so I got him some fake crocs from next that are green with teeth and eyes to look like a croc, he looks so cute! He also needed something for nursery because he goes up to the big room after Easter, he's getting such a big boy, not my baby anymore

DD2 is 2 at the end of April. She will have a joint family birthday party with DD1 (whose b'day is 2 weeks later) at our house, hopefully a BBQ in the garden. DD1 didn't have a party for her 'friends' until she was 3 last year.

I'm feeling quite overwhelmed by the whole party thing for DD2 tbh. She started school in Nov and has been to 8 parties since, one every weekend in Feb!! It seems to be the norm to hire a hall, a DJ, an entertainer, a face-painter etc etc and invite the whole class. Talking to the other mums this seems to cost on average £250+!!!

Now, we're not skint, but if I had that sort of money spare, I would rather put it towards a holiday for us all. The thing is, all the parties roll into one for the kids, as they are all so 'samey' (the same entertainer has been at most).

I'm planning on having DD1's at home, for 8-10 friends who she wants to invite, and having a traditional party with musical statues and pass the parcel etc. Tinkerbell themed of course . DD1 very excited by this idea (thank God!).

I just think, if you do all that for when they are 4 yrs old, what can you aspire to when they are older, party-wise IYSWIM?

Seem to have cured DD2 getting out of bed by putting her back in her sleeping bag, but in the bed.

pipoca good luck TTC. FYI, it took us a year to conceive DD1 and 1 month to conceive DD2...!

Work a bit slow so MNing a lot at the mo ! Lucky that sounds like a lot of hassle, nevermind a lot of money. I think your pass the parcel party sounds much nicer.

We have been careless but I'm sure it's too late in my cycle this month and then I'll probably get cold feet for a bit and we'll have a careful phase. Sort of in that "would like to get pregnant but a bit scared of it" phase. Would be easier if we waited a couple more months so will be a bit on and off and if an "accident" happens then so be it.

I'm so indecisive.

LM YANBU! I had one huge party ever and that was my 18th, even then quite simple, just the only one not at home. I think small parties are fun for everyone, though a cafe sounds fun too BWC. DS's will be here, a bit of a tea party and hopefully lots in the garden, paddling pool in May? Maybe a bit optimistic!

I'm hoping to do small parties for DS1 when he's at school. His birthday is 30th Sept, so will be a few weeks after he starts, hopefully I won't have the pressure from other classmates who have invited the whole class and what you describe.

I just feel grateful that I'm confident enough not to be a 'crowd follower' as I'm sure some parents just think they have to do what everyone else is doing, to keep little Johnny happy, IYSWIM.

A lot of the other mums take packets of sweets for the kids for after school. We don't take any dor DD1 (she has her dinner an hour later). Some of the mums have started giving my DDs packets of sweets. It really annoys me, I don't want them eating them everyday, before dinner. They have their treat after dinner, if they eat their dinner.
What can I say without sounding 'hoity toity anal mum'???!!

LM sweets every day after school sure fire way to get tooth decay IMO. Best to save them for after their meal as you're doing.

I remember a few years ago a college friends dd was in her last year at primary school, her dd kept talking about how her bff was having a sleep over for her 12th bday. Harmless you would think . Turns out the sleepover was in the Hilton hotel. The mum had booked a suite and invited 20, yes 20, girls and boys to the sleepover. THe contents of the goody bags varied from hair straightners to digital cameras . How can they expect to compete with that! OH and the best of it is, the family were from a very poor area of Glasgow. The party was reported in the local paper as well. shocking.

I havent even started to think about dd birthday. Last year we had just the family over. We both have big families so we had said to turn up any time between 1 & 3. Everyone except my parents turned up at 110. It also happened to be the hottest day in ages. There was 20 people including us baking in my wee living room. We do have a garden but its slightly bigger than a double bed so hardly garden party worthy.

Im feeling a bit today. Partly with myself and partly with my brother. My mums 60 is next weekend and we still cant agree on a present! My db keeps disagreeing with my didter and I. He is deadset on a spa day for her and want to send her somewhere fancy. But we know that she wouldnt want to go herself and although my dad does the turkish spa thing on holiday dont think he would be interested to do a spa day here. There are some nice places in Glasgow to go for a spa but he doesnt think they are special enough.
Whats annoying me most (and dp for that matter) is that its all getting left to me to organise but yet db is not happy with what im suggesting or the price range im talking. I think he wants to over compensate for the fact that he is emigrating to Oz next year and so wont be here for other birthdays. Oh and to top it off dd is in one of those mood this afternoon when she wants to do everything that she knows she's not allowed. example, rubbing yoghurt on the lcd tv!

I am a bit tired. Had a funny few days. Went up north with mum and dd last week which was lovely but feel like I haven't stopped since. We had a very busy weekend and then the pils came on Monday. They were their usual demanding selves and an hour after they'd arrived I'd made tea 3 times, lunch, had washed up, put stuff away and was entertaining dd.

Dp's nan came too having had an enema earlier in the morning to investigate a bowel problem. I thought she should go home but fil and mil are very funny when they want to do something so the came with her. Anyway, it all went wrong when dn (nan) had an "accident" in the hall way. Mil had a meltdown (she doesn't get on with her mum and saw it as a personal affront & guilt trip for making her come ) so I put dd with fil and started cleaning up dn and hallway. Mil walked out and shut the front door, fil couldn't contain dd so she walked into the "accident' . I eventually called dp and told him to come home and deal with them. His nan was ok though very embarrassed. I feel so sorry for her and did my best to make her comfortable and not upset about what had happened.

That kind of nonsense makes me feel so claustrophobic. They come at least once every 2 weeks atm and stay from 11am-9pm most times and I have to do lunch, dinner and endless teas.

Enough of my rambling and moaning. I am so tired I am going to have a bath once the football is over and hit the sack.

You are right about HM, she has been on FB but not her usual active self. Iv left her a message. I hope everything is ok for her.

I borrrowed dp's car last week, and he didnt want to swap back for a while. The bloody thing broke down on me last night!! Again!! Fortunatly the car is at my parents so my df gave dd and I a lift home last night. Dp wasnt too chuffed when he got home and I told him. We just cant afford a new car just now.

pipoca we have been doing the same in terms of ttc, we have been 'irresponsible' for almost 1&half years. At times it gets me down, especially as there is a major baby boom occurring in the area right now, but on the bright side dd came after over 3yrs of ttc so half way there!

Hi everyone. Glad brownies went well Sho! I was also wondering about HM as he last post on here sounded a bit worrying, hope she's OK.
Baiyu went do you start work, wasn't it this month?
Work's a bit slow for me just now, which is good as last month was manic. Nice to have a rest and get other stuff done this week. Have been a bit naughty this month but too late in cycle I think for anything to have happened. The idea of properly ttc still freaks me out a bit (even bought more condoms the other day in a moment of panic! ) Think it'll be fairly on and off for another few months.
MM your PILS sound utterly AWFUL!! 11am-9pm every couple of weeks.... God, I'd go insane!

MM You def have been thru it lately (and your DD ). Hope you get some chill out this weekend.

Sho I had very irregular periods after coming off the pill when TTC DD1. After about 9 months I started using a therm to do my temp each morning, so that you know when you have ovulated. It really helped. We basically had sex (sorry ) pretty much every other night for a year, trying to catch the right time. It was exhausting! Even DH went off it after a while.....LOL!!

It's 3a.m. and I can't sleep. I'm knackered but I can't sleep cos my mind is so active after the move yesterday. Our new premises are really lovely (some photos on FB) but it was very emotional leaving the other place. I was 22 when I started there in 1996, I was still with my uni boyfriend. It was quite weird thinking about all the changes that have happened in my life since I worked there, all for the better. I think I am quite possibly the happiest I have ever been right now .

I have HM's mobile no. so I will text her tomorrow to see if she is OK.

Life a bit pants here, so I took off to my parents and some friends for the last week. Just needed some friendly faces and a bit of help with the kids.

Got back today - feeling soooooo much better and looking better for not having bags the size of Argentina under my eyes!!

Baiyu I was bridesmaid for the first and probably last time last year when my sis got married. I was 35......oldest bloody bridesmaid ever but I refused to be called a 'matron' of honour!!

Quite right LM, matron is an awful word! A really good friend of mine is getting married back in Edinburgh in September...5 days before my due date. Hmm! Really want to go but might be a bit silly.
