Hi girls, thought the old thread was in need of a spring clean, plus, I'm sure if my memory serves me right, one of us had our May-due baby in March (Macoco???) so someone is 2 soon....!

Pipoca - Just wanted to say on the language thing, I don't think it's actually that uncommon.

Haribo is def. the strong silent type. There are words I KNOW he can say, but getting him to say them is near on impossible.

I have a large playpen for my two now and he has to say 'Mama out' when he wanted to get out and I swear to GOD sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to get the little bugger to say it!! In fact, I often have to walk away saying 'oh, well, you must want to stay there' and, I'll hear a little voice say 'Mama... mama OUT' [heart melts emoticon]

I actually took Haribo to the Paed to check on his language skills (as you know, I didn't find out I was PG until 22 weeks so worry like crazy about every milestone and he wasn't worried at all. He did recommend a picture book... we have this one and it's wonderful!! I have been amazed at what Haribo will pick out and it's def. helped. We used to watch SuperWhy of an evening (with the power to READ! ) but now we 'read' his book together.

I think as long as the comprehension is there, there is no real need to worry for a few months yet. My Paed said that one key 'test' is if the child can follow simple instructions: Please climb the stairs / please shut the gate / please put your shoes on - that sort of thing. As long as he's doing that, then AFAIC, it's not a massive issue at this age.

pipoca · 15/04/2010 09:08

Aww thanks Harimo you've made me feel much better! . His comprehension is really excellent in both languages. He can follow pretty much any instruction you give hime (within reason) in both English and Spanish and he DOES communicate a lot, but uses a lot of sounds/signals more than words. So, we'll walk past DH's car and he'll say Dada brrrm and do a little steering wheel action.

Did you move HM, did you go far? How's it going?

Why did flick go to SA then? I seem to have missed that.

How's the pregnancy going and work Baiyu

Hello to everyone else. Arrgh, should be translating...have to run.

Pipoca don't worry ds2 still in a cot and I'm happy for him to stay there. Still in nappies also no rush as ds1 was a breeze with toilet training but only did it at 35 months, just before 3rd birthday because he was only ready then and we had no accidents. Just so you know!! Also no milk here, will have it sometimes but def doesn't ask for it unless ds1 is having chocolate milk. He will be 2 next month , can't believe it

monkeysmama · 15/04/2010 09:40

Pipoca all of the bilingual boys I know (8 in total) were "late" speakers. My godson is 2.5 & says very few words. His brother started speaking just before 3 & is confident & fluent in both languages now (he's almost 4). When he started speaking he was off iyswim.

Dd still has two naps a day. An hour at 9:30 and another hour-hour & half around 230. She goes to bed at 7:30-8 and is up at 6:15. I will keep them going for as long as I can! And re potty training, the only reason we're edging towards it is that she asks to use the toilet which makes me think she's getting ready. I don't even look at the milestone etc books now.

Got the joy of the inlaws today. Lucky me.

Have a nice day all & lovely to hear from you HM.

shonnomanom · 15/04/2010 10:27

Hiya

Hi HM lovely to see you on here again
ww glad your procedure went well

Hope all your little ones are on the mend now

Good luck to all potty training!

We have a potty next to the toilet, dd isnt too keen on it tbh. I try and get her to sit on it at least once a day, just to get used to it, but she's just not a fan. Think we too are going to have to go down the toilet seat plan.
I wasnt planning to potty train as such until the summer. My boss has a huge garden and dd will be here with me nearly all day so it will be less messy than in our flat she hopes

Dd's language is coming along. We saw the HV the other week and she was impressed. Dd has a few words and a few short sentances. We'v been getting a few new words out of her this week. Her comprehension, when she wants to, is really good.

As far ask fedding goes, she only has one bottle of sma green at night. She has a cup of cow milk in the morning with her breaky. the rest of the day she just eats when we do.

Speaking of eating. Yestersay morning I impulsly started WeightWatchers again. Im not going to the meeting just doing it at home. Im the same weight I was when I started after DD was born but Im at least a whole dress size bigger .
Day 1 was fine although starving. I am a self confessed fridge picker!
Day 2 going so well but im back at work today and finding it hard not to munch while the kids are in the garden playing.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine!

baiyu · 16/04/2010 19:58

MM Dying of jealousy about those naps, amazing! DS won't nap anymore and I tried SO hard to keep them going Oh well! Somehow nursery manage it but only for half an hour a day.

pipoca my DS doesn't say any more than yours and he only has the one language. It doesn't worry me, he understands so much and now we're getting new words all the time, just took a while to get started.

We're definitely not potty training yet, a bit of sitting on the potty but he's never done anything there. As long as we've done it before no.2 is here I'll be happy, thinking late Summer if he's ready.

HM Book looks great, we have some usborne first words books which are fun to read together.

pipoca Job going well thanks, exhausting having to think again but I really like it.

sho good luck with the WWs.

Oh and milk wise, DS just has a cup of normal blue top milk at bedtime and milk with cereal etc, sometimes a glass in the afternoon but not always. Haven't used formula for a really long time, he has a pretty good diet so I hope that's ok

WW glad hospital visit was alright.

MM I have the inlaws on Sunday, I feel your pain!

harimo · 16/04/2010 20:38

OMG!! Baiyu No naps!! That must be wearing in your present condition! Haribo could happily sleep for 3 hours from 12-3 if he got away with it. And he still sleeps from 7-5 pretty well now.

My elder DSD woke at 5am EVERY MORNING until she was about 6YO... Didn't matter if she napped, if she went to bed early or late... At 5am she was UP! So, I am in no hurry to drop that daytime nap when I can catch up on housework and cuddles with Mims!!

Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine (it's WONDERFUL, isn't it??!) and no-one's been too affected by the volcano... Obviously, DH isn't flying home, but they (somehow!) got a couple of cars onto the Eurostar, so he's coming that way instead.

Lucky2010 · 16/04/2010 22:24

Potty training going v well here now. DD2 knows when she needs to wee, tells us, sits on potty or toilet, does it happily now, v pleased with herself. No accidents (wee) in 3-4 days now.

Poo a different story, no idea at all that she's going. I usually catch it in potty after a meal, DH bit more laid back and has had to deal with several poos in pants this week.

I'm not going back to nappies now cos of poos, seems silly when she's doing so well with wees.

Naps wise she has one a day, anything from 1-3 hours, usually around 2 hrs.

She has two cups of cows milk a day, am and pm. So does DD1 who is nearly 4 yrs now.

Nice to see you back Harimo.

Good luck with WW Sho.

Don't worry about language Pipoca, all kids vary, I know some kids DD1's age who were really late speakers and are fine now.
We thought DD2 was talking well, and she is really, lots of words and a few small sentences, but when we watched the DVD of when she was born, and DD1 was the age DD2 is now, DD1's language was much more advanced.

And for that reason, I have made DD2 sleep in the shed tonight .

Got my first car boot sale tomorrow (selling).

Feel bit nervous of the vultures but DH coming with me.

Have a lovely sunny Saturday all of you!

DS2 loves hos cot and will stay in it until we sort swapping the boys bedrooms around so he can go into DS1's cot bed. He has been refusing his grobag this week, which has been a pain because the mornings are still cold so he wakes up cold at 6am.

He has cows milk morning and evening but none in between unless he asks.

His language is loads better than DS1 was at his age, but DS1 spoke quite clearly when he did start and is still quite precise in what he says. Mostly he has verbal diarea (sorry know it has an H in there somewhere and an O but had some wine ) like his mother.

DS1 slept in the dat til he was 3.5 so I think DS2 will got the same way he only manages 1-1.5 hrs at nursery where there's so much going on but at home he has 2-3hrs.

LM good luck for car boot. I'm doing an NCT in a week so I need to sort out the boys clothes and price them up, not sure what people will pay for 2nd hand clothes?!?

No potty training here. DS1 was done just before DS2 arrived at 2.5 yrs, he was really not interested and a nightmare so I think next year is a more realistic time scale for DS2. He does like to sit on the potty and say wee, but he's not done anything as yet.

harimo · 17/04/2010 19:13

LM - Just a note on the car boot sales... Get there early (6:30 is not too early!!) and be prepared to be POUNCED on.

I did one when Dh and I moved here and I couldn't BELIEVE how quickly things went - LITERALLY I had people trying to get into my car and it was only the help of a kindly car booter who stopped me being robbed blind! I couldn't keep up with the number of people crowding the car.

That's the only reason I won't do another one - but I made loads of money in no time at all... I was out of there by 11am!!!

Good luck!

baiyu · 17/04/2010 21:39

harimo I KNOW! It's such a pain, I could gladly nap every day at the moment but I never get the chance. Just doesn't happen anymore however hard I try.

Occasionally if he's really knackered I'll persevere, it'll take me an hour to get him to nap, he'll sleep for half an hour then be a total ratbag when he waskes up for about 1.5 hours so it's really not worth it! Hmmph.
He tends to have half an hour or so of 'down-time' early afternoon, a little bit of telly or some stories and a glass of milk maybe but then he's raring to go again!

Sleeps at night 7ish til 6 (if we're lucky), was a guaranteed 7am for a while but that's long-gone Up at 5.45 this am but let DH sleep til half 9, think I deserve a good wife prize He did make me a lovely breakfast when he got up though so that made me feel a bit better. (also plonked DS in front of 'Maisy' for 20 mins mid-morning and sneaked back to bed with DH [bad mummy but happy lady emoticon] Sorry if TMI!

Ok, will stop rambling.

Good luck with carboot sale LM and for the NCT WW, be brave!

Loving this weather!

Willabywallaby · 18/04/2010 08:28

Got to sort my NCT stuff today it's not like a car boot and have very detailed instructions on how to do the price labels. Went off and bought coloured card yesterday...

DS1 napped in the afternoon til 3.5 years and desperately needs to have one this weekend, he's being really obnoxious due to being knackered. But still bounds in at 6am, 6.15am. He gets sent back to bed til 7, and then TV on a non nursery day. DS1 will quite happily sit with him now, so my boys watch far too much telly . Although it's mostly DVDs at the moment, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with Johnny Depp, it's ok, but has the stupid 'Willy Wonka's Father is a dentist' addition which makes me . I love Roald Dahl so we read the books to DS1, couldn't quite get it read before he insisted on watching it.

I blame DH for showing it to him, he is also responsible to The Mask addiction they have. Also not happy with Spiderman (it's a 12 cert!), but now they've seen it I can't see the point in stopping. Trying to get DH to only show them U certs and make sure we watch PGs with them, Cars is a PG...

Anyway must have some breakfast and off to Makro for some bulk loo roll buying.

Have fun in the sun

shonnomanom · 18/04/2010 10:32

Morning
Someone stole our lovely sunshine! I was planning on working in the garden today as well. honest.

hm iv lost a lot of overtime because my boss has had meetings in london cancelled due to the ash cloud. Most of the meetings will be rescheduled which is good for my purse.

DD had a horrible night last night. For the first time in I cant remember how long I had to change her nappy during the night. And it took 2hours of constantly gettin her back in her bed before she eventually went back to sleep. My neighbours coming home in the middle of my attempts and constantly opening/closing their squeeky doors didnt help.
Regardless she was still up before 7. 7 is a long lie, her early morning rise is about 530. She never goes back to sleep at either times.

I sometimes need to force her to have a nap during the day. She needs to have at least 40mins by 4pm or she will fall asleep in the car on the way home, which scunners the whole evening. On Friday we walked her for 2hours in the pram and she was shattered but determined not to sleep. She was asleep in the car before we had even left the village!
Good job I fimished work early.

Yesterday, my mum offered to host dd's 2nd birthday at her house. The plan is to have a bbq in the garden. I can see some of dp's family having issues with it. But thats their loss not mine.
Im happy that we'r having it there as it means that no one is at mine. And afterwards I can go back to a quiet, post party free house iykwim

Lucky2010 · 18/04/2010 19:30

Car boot went well. Got there at 8am, didn't get busy til about 10am (I guess they all vary). Made £65.

WW I think an NCT sale will be a lot more lucrative. I am not a member of the NCT or I would have done that instead. I think NCT people would be prepared to pay more than car boot people, IYKWIM!!!

Braved taking DD2 to mass today, in pants. Walked to mass ( a 20 min walk). Had the travel potty with me. She asked for it 3 times in mass but didn't go, must be novelty factor. As soon as we got home she asked to go and did a big wee. It's as if she was holding it for when we got home? Was out of house for 2 hours total so pleased and reassured about school run tomorrow.

My brother is an air traffic controller and he said the situation is much more serious than people think and that they have been told some big airlines could fold after this.
He has unsuprisingly been sent home from work as they normally have 70 controllers on duty and only need 6 at the moment. Scary stuff.

Have had my Mum up for the weekend and it's been lovely. Sad to see her go home.

Weather is fab, I love it, actually more than actual summer cos it's not too hot.

monkeysmama · 18/04/2010 20:01

LM can you get some insider info from your brother about flights next weekend? I am going to Italy but fear it'll be a nightmare even if flights are taking off what with the back log etc.

Ahhhh, dd is over tired so better run up and rescue dp.

Back later.

Willabywallaby · 18/04/2010 21:20

Still not totally sorted my stuff for the sale, now have 2 boxes of 'only for the charity shop' and winter clothes.

Sho that sounds great party at your Mum's. We drove past the cafe where DS2 is having his today and pointed it out to DH, he showed a slight interest .

All this ash cloud stuff find so surreal, on the news it's like something off Dr Who talking about hubs in Spain.

My ILs and SIL and family had a mammouth trip back from the Alps on Friday. Bus, train, ferry, and MIL's sister actually got the ferry to Calais to get them because they wouldn't let on any foot passengers.

BIL and friends left today for Val D'Isere (sp?) they managed to get on the tunnel, but there was a bit of car juggling since FIL's people carrier was in Bristol airport and they needed it to take to France.

shonnomanom · 22/04/2010 16:26

lot of tumble weed on the thread this week ladies!

No news apart from chickenpox. Hello all!

shonnomanom · 23/04/2010 18:04

I know, our little ones are getting a handful arent they.
dd has been a right proper pita today, to the extent that she had me in tears on more than one occassion.

Needless to say the diet is on pause and dp is away just to pick up the chinese food! yum!

Hope everyone is well. baiyu hope your all coping with the chickenpox and ds isnt suffering too much!

Sho x

Lucky2010 · 24/04/2010 08:47

Baiyu is it wrong that I am of the chicken pox?

I really want my girls to get it sooner rather than later. DD1 nearly 4 now. I think it's better if they get it younger?

Been really busy of late and now v tired. DH and I were planning a big catch up of Sky plus last night (3 episodes of 24, 3 flash forwards, 1 desp housewives, 2 Lost....etc etc). I fell asleep on the sofa during the 2nd programme . DH none too pleased [eek!].

Potty training is done!!!!!!!! Can't believe how far we have come in less than 2 weeks. She is fantastic! All wee and poo on the toilet now, tells us when she wants to go, dry pull ups after every nap in the day and even had a dry nappy when she woke up this morning!!!! (can't quite believe that as DD1 was 3 before she was dry at night).
It's such a relief!

Gonna have a nice weekend in the sunshine with my family!

Well done on the potty training, LM - We are doing well, but not ready to go without the pull ups just yet!!!

Baiyu - How is your kitchen now? Did you get anything sorted with the landlord?

Have been into London with my two today modelling for Flick's company. Had SOOO much fun!!

Sho sory to hear about your DD being a PITA. Haribo drives me mad sometimes - more because I ruddy well know he knows what he is doing is wrong, but he's pushing buttons / boundaries at the mo.

We went out last night - off to see an old rock band - so it's an early night here!! BGT and bed, me thinks!!

Night all, Harimo x

harimo · 25/04/2010 08:20

willabywallaby - You have got me motivated!

By the end of today, I will have:

  1. Ebay pile
  2. Charity pile
  3. Dress agency pile
  4. Freecycle pile

Honest!

(I just nearly shortented your name to willywally and then thought: Maybe not!! )

shonnomanom · 25/04/2010 10:57

Oohhh much at the chicken pox and the potty training here!
Dd has started to tell us when she is about to/just done a wee. The other night she was running around bare bum just after her bath when she stopped and pointed down, 'oh mum', then peed on the floor.
Im aiming for the summer.

That particular day hm dd was screaming, not crying, for the whole day. We tried everything to distract shut her up but nothing worked.
Thankfully that day is now over!
