Hi girls, thought the old thread was in need of a spring clean, plus, I'm sure if my memory serves me right, one of us had our May-due baby in March (Macoco???) so someone is 2 soon....!

Lucky2010 · 25/04/2010 18:19

i.e. if your child is in a black cab, do they not need a car seat?

OP posts:
harimo · 25/04/2010 19:11

LM - Taxis are outside the 'car seat' legislation. All taxis - regardless of make / model etc.,

Black cabs have a middle seat which is like a booster seat with a little belt and Haribo uses that one (Mims will either be in her little buggy or her carrier so 'restrained' IYSWIM) - otherwise, they will both be in their double buggy.

harimo · 25/04/2010 19:12
  • If I have the double buggy, they both just sit in that...
Lucky2010 · 26/04/2010 20:19

(confused) how on earth do you get a double buggy in the back of a car, with 2 children sitting in it?!!!

So, MIL has bought the girls a trampoline for the garden for their birthday, much to my horror. She also bought my nephews one, their b'day today, so of course, we all had to go around for a tea [FFS]. Aside frm the arguments as to whose turn it was, I was horrifed to see my darling DD2 being thrown around like a rag doll on said trampoline, and MIL just sit there and say 'she loves it!!'.....I was thinking, hmmmm, she won't love it if she has to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. Bit OTT perhaps but it's an occupational hazard when your DH is a paramedic and you are a physio, you see and hear of too much IYSWIM.

DD2 tried to get in our bed over 10 times last night. Drove me insane. Kept putting her back to bed. Have put stairgate across bedroom door. Would put her back in cot but she can climb out .

Trying times ahead me thinks.....

lucky She means in a black cab you can keep buggy upright with kids still in buggy iykwim hope you get the night wakings sorted

shonnomanom · 26/04/2010 22:18

Totally agree re trampoline lucky, Im very picky about which kids(theres just 1 actually) I trust on the trampoline with dd. Also with the ott rule that whilst jumping no ones feet should leave the trampoline iykwim

Good luck tonight with the gate. On a good night dd only comes through anytime between 6 & 7 am.

My boss very kindly offered me their garden toys today for free. There is a swing set (which my sister is taking because my postage stamp of a garden is smaller than it), a playhouse, a rocker and a seesaw. This will hopefully be enough motivation for dp to get his butt in gear and get a fence up in the garden . fingers crossed eh!

Lucky2010 · 27/04/2010 19:17

Wow Sho that's a bargain geting those garden toys for free!

Went to a friend's this morning who also had a trampoline. Cue more tears and arguments and tantrums etc etc. FFS, is this what I have to come......

I just feel at the moment that everything from start to end of the day is a battle with DD2, she's not eating well, she's stroppy if she doesn't get her own way, won't keep her sunhat on, won't have her suncream put on etc etc, it's draining me of all my energy. Terrible 2's I guess, anyone else feel the same???

Just need my bed now....alas, ironing beckons!

OP posts:
harimo · 28/04/2010 07:40

Goodness, I wouldn't let Haribo anywhere near a full size trampoline - he'd be a liability!!! He has one of those kids ones with a handle and that's quite enough for now!!

We also have some garden toys - a little climbing frame and a slide.

LM - I think they all go through stages like that. Haribo is actually being a very good boy for me at the moment - we are in a very good routine and Haribo is getting better at trying new foods (He ate chicken korma on Sunday!!) Hope you got the ironing sorted

I don't have a car today - the air con isn't working and they are having to put dye through the whole system to see where it's losing gas... I'd been planning to go and look at some houses and take the kids to a modelling job, but it's all cancelled.

And DH has to work this weekend, so I have a bank holiday to myself

shonnomanom · 28/04/2010 22:55

lm dd is in a constant mood just now.
And she's not even 2 yet!
Its really taking its toll on me if im honest. It just takes one tiny wee thing to set her off and thats her screaming, banging, moaning and hitting for the rest of the day.
Looks like my parents got the brunt of it today, yeh for me, boo for them.
We put up a gate across her door today and she wouldnt leave it alone. She just kept slamming it over and over again

hm hope you get your car sorted ok

harimo · 29/04/2010 15:38

I'm sorry for those of your with grumpy toddlers. Haribo is being an angel for me at the mo - he now listens to what I say, which is a godsend for me and we seem to be getting on very well. Long may it continue >

Can't believe they are 2 already!!!

Lucky2010 · 29/04/2010 20:47

Well girls, this time 2 years ago, I went to bed in a right huff cos my MW hadn't done a sweep on me...........DD2 is 2 tomorrow!!

OP posts:
baiyu · 29/04/2010 22:41

Hehe, that's great lucky! Yep, another one with a stropster - not every day thankfully. Tues was HORRIBLE, when DH got home he and DS pottered off into the garden and I went out of earshot and had a good old cry. Then yesterday and today he's been great.

harimo kitchen fixed thanks and a cheque should be on route to pay for smashed items, with stroppy DS I've been taking NO nonense from anyone and been very assertive (always a challenge or me!)

No bank holiday fun for me either, DH off to America on Saturday on business, back ooh about an hour before DS's party a week on Sunday . Flight better not be delayed!
Already don't know how you cope during the week harimo (and Mitchell, your DH has to go away quite a bit I think?), I'm dreading it! I have such respect for single mums, by 5pm I'm the one at the window every second looking to see if Daddy is coming yet!

Mitchell81 · 30/04/2010 13:24

Hello everyone

We have a ' I don't listen when I should nearly two year old', DS2 will be two on the 12th May but having his party on sunday as we have family coming up this weekend. Unfortunetley weather doesn't look great so fingers crossed the forecast is wrong as supposed to be outside.

He is definetly much naughtier than his brother was obviously he learn't early how to misbehave!!!!

Baiyu I hope you are alright whilst DH is away it is not nice but you do just get on with it as I think when you know that they aren't coming home in the evening you just get a bit more organised. (DH doesn't go away too often only a few times a year, so nothing like Harimos situation)

shonnomanon Hope DD mood improves

Lucky Happy birthday to your little lucky lady

Monkeysmama Hope you enjoy your time away

Harimo hope you find something exciting to do this weekend.

Sorry I know I have missed people out but haven't gone back further than one page.

harimo · 30/04/2010 18:29

Ah, thankyou kind ladies - it is nice to know that someone thinks I get a bit of a short straw!! Actually, life is going really well now... Really happy again. Loving the extra support but also realising I enjoy my own independence, IYSWIM.

I was talking to a friend of mine (who is having a few martial problems - not massive, but still) and her DH is SOOOO involved with every aspect of childcare - he is CONSTANTLY nagging about something or other.. we (my friend and I) were talking about going away for a weekend, and he FORBADE it (is that a word... i think so!). I mean FFS!!?! She IS NOT allowed to take HER children away for the weekend unless HE OKays it... I know my DH isn't everyone's cuppa... but he is right for me. Bless him!! I'm quite happy with life ATM!!

Well, best go and put them in the bath! Haribo is playing with his cars right now and makes me laugh... but it will take me an age to prize him from them!!!

happy birthday to all the Little ones!. Two already!!! God, they will be at school in a year I miss the baby stage. Still sure there are no more babes for me, but, goodness, I do like the little ones!!

shonnomanom · 01/05/2010 10:40

HM im glad your soo happy now, it makes that bad days go easier when everything else is in place dont you think.

May 1st today, it is officially birthday month in this family. Both dp and dd(30th) are this month as well as 4 other family members.
Happy birthday to all who are celebrating this weekend. Hope you all get good weather for your garden parties! We have horrible weather today and its also really cold.

Baiyu hope ds is good for you while his daddy is away. Did he get over the chicken pox ok?

We put a gate over dd's door to stop her night walking. It works, she not even gettin out her bed now. But during the day she cant leave it open, she insists on banging it until it closed . Although, since the gate went up she has been sleep talking every night. It used to be every other week. Its very cute!

We have been haveing a few car problems recently. Dp bought a car mid-March, from what turns out to be a dodgy dealership.
Dp is still the registered owner of our old car and not the new car. The old car was involved in a RoadTraffic incident AFTER we sold it to the dealer, but as dp is still the registered owner we had the Police here looking for evidence that we dont own the car anymore.
And to top it off. The road tax is up and DVLA has said that it will take 4 weeks for the them to get everything sorted and the new car to get taxed.
So we'r down to 1 car for a month, which doesnt sound like a big deal but dp works shifts and I work 2 sometimes 3 morning shifts a week as well as my afterschool work as well. I dont fancy the idea of getting a bus with dd at 6am

Anyway, sorry for the rant.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend

monkeysmama · 01/05/2010 11:39

Hi girls

Just had a quick read through and wanted to wish a happy birthday to all those celebrating in the next few days. I can't believe it is 2 years either.

Back from Italy and seeing my best mate and her 14 day old LO. She and her husband were very stressed and I spent a lot of time trying to reassure them. It makes me smile that I am now, in their eyes, a baby expert.

Glad to hear about Haribo HM - dd is a little angel too. She has a real temper on her but there is always a reason for her getting angry / frustrated iyswim and as long as I have the energy we get through things very quickly. The occasions when things do boil over and I become shouty mummy are always when we're both tired but like everyone else has said - it makes me feel like sh*t after. I have a good eater too. We always eat together and I think the BLW and always having what we have (including sushi!) has helped.

We did have a nail varnish "incident" the other day - an entire bottle was opened on the leather sofa and then applied to her cheeks, lips and if I'd come back into the room a second later it would've been on her eyes too! She'd gone into my handbag, got it out and knowing it wasn't allowed she'd hidden it until I went to hang the washing out. Little monkey.

Right, got to send dd's party invitations. All booked for Sat 15th but I forgot to send the invites before I went away. We're having a big party again - 30 adults, 25 kids in our local park. Think we are officially crazy. Spending her actual birthday at a farm and having a little family celebration on the Sunday though dp is off to Monaco that morning at 5 so guess I'll be left with party clean up & family thing. Oh good.

Love to all

MM x

Lucky2010 · 01/05/2010 14:08

Had a lovely birthday for DD2, soft play, her favourite dinner, Shrek 2 for film night (her choice) and lots of cuddles!!!

Of for a full body deep tissue massage in a bit, birthday pressie from my SILs, cannot wait!

OP posts:
monkeysmama · 03/05/2010 11:12

Sounds like a lovely day LM.

What pressies are you getting for your LOs? I am looking for some good jigsaws but the selection seems very limited.

baiyu · 03/05/2010 20:14

Ooh wow lucky lucky, hope your massage was brill! You deserve it. There were some spa days for a tenner on lastminute.com last week, nothing near me and not much fun with a bump but might be worth a look for anyone else needing a bit of a pamper! I've twinged my back today and am limping around and no DH to even give me an amateur massage, hmmph.

Week without DH going ok otherwise, think DS is still a bit convinced he's hiding somewhere. I foolishly left a bowl on the table last night and this morning DS was charging around convinced that it was his Dad's cereal bowl so he must be somewhere... He's been good though and the house isn't a cesspit, hooray!

Sho So sorry to hear about your car problems, what a pain. There's nothing worse than getting ripped off like that, hope it's sorted soon and dodgy dealership exposed.

monkeysmama I'm also on the jigsaw hunt, DS has just really started to get into them. My Dad is getting him a balance bike which is what we were going to get (he tends to go OTT, absent grandparent guilt I think!) so we're not going overboard. I know my mum and sisters will send things too so a few puzzles from us will be grand. Please let me know if you find any good ones!

Willabywallaby · 04/05/2010 08:20

Orchard toys are the best IMO.
Baiyu which balance bike is he getting?
Raining in Majorca!

Willabywallaby · 04/05/2010 08:22

We do have a good GALT farm one aswell, oh and dinosaurs.

harimo · 04/05/2010 09:32

Hi all, just a quickie from me...

Haribo isn't getting any real pressies this year. He's having a trip to EuroDisney and then a trip to the local model railway on his actual birthday and then pizza.

he's only interested in trains and he has a million of those!! He DOES NOT NEED any more!!

I went to the South East show yesterday (which was really good, actually!) and I told Haribo he could choose 1 book... he chose a book on steam trains.. I mean, not a kids book, a real proper trainspotters book

I went with a friend who is single and childless. I love her to bits, but she has... how would I say... something of an idealised idea of what her life would be like if she was married and had kids...

So, we are having lunch and my two are being bloody great (haribo ate his garlic bread and pasta without covering (i) himself, (ii) the floor and played with his little train. mims ate her food and smiled biguilingly at fellow diners... so I'm thinking that lunch went well and my friend says 'Well, I suppose they didn't scream all of the time' Definitely one of those 'oh, just you wait' Moments!!

Well, best dash, off to the zoo!

More later! xx

Lucky2010 · 04/05/2010 10:58

HM.....people without kids just don't get it do they? Sometimes my Sis and BIL make a few faces at each other when they are over at our house, and DH and I just think the same thing.....just you wait!!!
I also wanted to say how refreshing it is to hear that you're not getting DS too much as he's going to have some treats instead. I agree, we didn't spend much on the girls as they got plenty from the rest of the family. We got them a big slide for the garden, and a few little bits each, DD2 got a snow white rag doll and some beanie dwarves, and a £6 toy kettle from Tesco!
DD1 has some Tinkerbell PJ's, a 'Hullabaloo' game, a DVD and a snakes and ladders game.

MM We got DD1 and DD2 lovely jigsawys from the 'perfectly happy people' catalogue, which are their names carved out. They both love them.

Baiyu Hope you are surviving and your back is getting better. My massage was lovely, ruined only by the fact that the girls who did it was a chatterbox...I mean, literally did not stop talking and asking me questions about my life. I felt too rude to say 'erm, can you shut the F up please, I'm trying to relax'.......

We had the girls family birthday party yesterday, which went very well. Nearly 30 people in the house cos the weather was pants. Managed to shove the kids outside for a bit inbetween showers. I made them a snow white birthday cake and was quite proud when my MIL said 'what a lovely cake, where did you buy that?' and I said 'I made it!!!'
(It wasn't even that impressive!!)
The kids were all really well behaved, and poor little DD2 was so tired by 5pm, she fell asleep on me having a cuddle, dressed as snow white.....so cute!

Got superbro here today, currently reading stories to the girls .

OP posts:
harimo · 05/05/2010 04:36

Haha! LM.. Your massage sounds divine (even with the running commentary!!)

Baiyu - How are you feeling? When is DC2 due? Are you getting on well with the P&T? Your DH will be home soon, yes?

Sho - Sorry to hear about the cars. Sounds stressful! Hope it gets sorted quickly.

MM at the nail varnish! It's amazing how quickly our little munchkins can run amok!!!

Mitchell - at DS2 learning to misbehave!! He has a good teacher, eh??? haha!!

WW - Sorry to hear about the rain in spain! The weather is COLD here!! We were at the zoo yesterday and the kids were wrapped up like it was winter! Did you get your sorting done? I'm having a massive E-bay sale ATM (thanks to your motivation, I might add!!)

Pipoca - How are you??

Hope I haven't missed anyone. Apologies if I have - no-sleep-baby-addled-brain of mine!! I am currently sitting here with Mims, who likes to have a little singalong around this time each morning She'll go back to sleep in a little while just as Haribo wakes up

We are off to see a prep school tomorrow. I have my Boden / Mulberry / LK Bennett outfit carefully prepared

Right, off to see if I can get my lovely daughter to shut up go to sleep!

Night all, x
