bugger

PeachyBAHons · 23/07/2008 15:37

VS- doesn't that article just point put to bigots that actually they can ask a mum to move on? bad writing!

you do not look fat.

Sal22 · 23/07/2008 15:48

awww, thanks Peachy

I wish I could throw everyone a party - if it was me, on my own, yesterday, I'd be packing my nursing bras away by now.

So, here's some virtual choc cakes for all around!
And banana milkshake (don't know where that comes from, just really fancy it now...)

scorpio1 · 23/07/2008 15:54

VS - great pic! Alex looks beautiful too, good article, good quotes from you!

it is too hot to even go out here.

And, you buggers, i am coming to london soon and none of you wanna see me

scorpio1 · 23/07/2008 16:00

Sorry

just seen meet up thread

LadyBee · 23/07/2008 17:00

I want chocolate cake and banana milkshakes.

What is wrong with me - I'm soooo hungry - have been walking past the kitchen hoping that something wonderful will magically appear but I know that there's nothing there except a dodgy tomato and a few old scones.
I put Ben in his sling face out today - he was dead impressed with the world at high-level. Don't think my Bushbaby is quite the right one to use like that at the moment though, as his legs do seem to be forced quite wide. Might have to dig out the hugabub DVD and give that another go.

Will go see meet-up thread now.

It is hot isn't it. Hard to know what to put them in at night, think it might just been a sleeveless vest tonight if temp doesn't go down.

PortAndLemon · 23/07/2008 17:04

Am probably going to be away most of August, but could potentially manage meet-up on 15th (that weekend is my mother's and my brother's birthday, so Saturday/Sunday more iffy).

Sal22 · 23/07/2008 17:26

Ladybee, don't know what it is - I've been "starving" all day too! (Ate all the stawberries we had, then still fancied something, and all I could find were some choc biscuits. So I ate that too... Urgh, feel a bit funny now.

EllieG · 23/07/2008 21:08

Heelllllooooo!
Wanted to start off dramatically.

Hiya Soph and PM! SO nice to see you back - sorry to hear about your wee one's hearing probs PM but glad all is being dealt with. Soph - very about sleeping through!

VS - you media 'ho you! Fab article and picture x

sal - have just caught up with last couple days posts and you've had me in tears. Am so pleased you are sorting it out. This is exactly what happened with me and Molly and I wish had had the strength to carry on like you are. You are fab lady and want to give you a big hug and tell you WELL DONE as I know how hard and emotional this all is for you xxx

Molly has been a little pig last couple days, I nearly threw her out the window a couple of nights ago . I think she is teething as she is SO unsettled. She's regressed - won't go down for naps - cries, wants to only sleep on me etc etc. She's so tired bless her, hasn't been sleeping well. I caved this afternoon and we went to bed together cos we were both shattered and slept all cuddled up for 2 hours, which was rather nice actually. I think it must have made her more chilled cos she went down at 7.15 no prob tonight, poor little mite. Is very hard work at moment and I am a bit teary. DP is being a bit more helpful though, which is good.

Denny185 · 23/07/2008 21:17

Hello all, thought I'd check in as MIL arrives tomorrow for a week so won't be around for a while.

VS you seem to be turning into a bit of a celeb with all these newspaper and radio appearences.

Sal, sorry you were having some problems but glad things seem to be getting back on track for you. Well done for persevering it would have been very easy to throw in the towel. Sounds like your both doing a great job now.

Welcome back Soph, great to hear from you and to know you and Sam r both well.

and you Paranoid, to hear youv'e been having a rough time. I hope they manage to find something to help LO.

Sure I've probably missed someone, appologies if I have.

5 days of the holidays down, so far - carival, park, country park, beach and collected stuff to make collages (sp?) on wet days. Don't know bout the kids but I'm knackered already. It's def a bonus not having to be ready for 9am though.

Is anyone else planning on doing some school work over the hols? I feel really tight doing it (we're doing one topic every day) but concerned that she'll loose the skills over 6 weeks and it's been such a struggle for her to keep up this last year.

Mum2BabyRoo · 23/07/2008 21:28

Hello all - how lovely is this weather?! Loving the sunshine. I had a really lovely day yesterday - my DH, mom and sister clubbed together and bought me a spa day at a lovely spa for my birthday (this Fri coming). Sooo relaxing and just what I needed. My mom babysat DD and she was as good as gold. Have my mom here until Sat as she is babysitting again this Fri as DH is taking me out for dinner. It is really nice having her here - Gigi loves her and I love the help!

We went to get Gigi weighed today - 13lb 1/2oz - very pleased! She puts on 6oz a week on average.

It's funny that you lot are talking about not swaddling - I have just started swaddling Gigi - before the cranio she wasn't having any of it and would get distressed if she was covered by anything - now she is fine with it - so swaddling it is! What a difference it makes!

VS - you and Alex look fab in the photo! In the paper, on the radio - when's the tv interview?

Sal - I am so happy for you! So glad that the BF'ing is working out for you!

Sal22 · 23/07/2008 21:43

Hello Ellie and Denny.

All praise go to everyone around me. I wanted to give up.
Honestly Ellie, without the support, or if I had anything else to deal with like you had at the time, I wouldn't have gone through with it.
Glad Mollie settled tonight. Strange how the get themselves so tired that they just won't sleep at all.

I'm shattered tonight - am going to bed now. Denny - impressed with you and all the others entertaining the other kids as well. I sincerely hope you magically get more energy with subsequent children, otherwise I might need to stick with this one! Night, all.

Sal22 · 23/07/2008 21:48

Hi Mum2BabyRoo - sorry, I really should type faster, keep missing the last poster! What do you swaddle Gigi with? I used to swaddle Roelof with a winter flennie swaddle blanket this but he sweats too much in it now. It might be that his room is hot though - catches afternoon sun.

Sal22 · 23/07/2008 22:00

Promise promise promise I'm going to bed now - am filling this thread up this week .

Mum2B, that's a brilliant present. Sounds like you've got a great couple of days ahead!

EllieG · 23/07/2008 22:08

I used a mirable swaddle blanket from bumpto3 - is nice and thin, but our room is so hot I can't swaddle her or she'd boil.

Had a question about that actually - our room is always over the recommended 20 degrees - even though I keep window open and have fan on for her. She sleeps in a short sleeved vest and a thin bag sleeping bag but I worry she is too hot. Should she have any covers if is so hot in there? I don't want her to wake up all chilly in the wee small hours but I worry about SIDS.

bearmama · 23/07/2008 22:13

Hello everyone - I'm a newbie, can I crash?
DD was supposed to be March 23rd but ended up being April 5th and I didnt join any clubs.
[hopeful emoticon]

Denny185 · 23/07/2008 22:22

Welcome Bearmama were a friendly lot on here.

Could you swaddle in just a sheet with short vest underneath? Ellie I know what you mean about this weather it's warm when they go to bed but does seem to get chilly during the night. I've been putting Aeryn to bed in just a sleepsuit, laying ontop of her sleeping bag (thin one) and zipping it up when I go to bed unless still really warm and then just putting sheet over her.

PortAndLemon · 23/07/2008 22:22

Hello bearmama, dive right in!

Ellie, I have DD in a short sleeved vest and a 0.5 tog sleeping bag (a lot of the thin ones are 1.0 tog) at the moment; if it gets any hotter I'll have her in just a nappy and the sleeping bag.

I've never swaddled DD; DS was so high need that he really needed to be swaddled and she was so much more laid back that I just never really got started. I've thought about it recently but reckon it wouldn't be long until she's able to get out of a swaddle so seems pointless starting now (plus the heat is a factor).

Ellie, you could swaddle in a giant muslin; I got some this time that are huuuuuuuge and specifically designed for swaddling but (see above) haven't used them for that.

LadyBee · 23/07/2008 22:42

Where did you get the enormo-muslins PAL?
I made some swaddle sheets out of t-shirt material. We got some stretchy cotton blankets from Matalan that were the perfect size but they're too heavy for these temps, I used them to get the size right for my home-made ones, but I think even these are getting a bit warm.

PortAndLemon · 23/07/2008 22:59

I actually ordered them from Australia ([www.imwrapped.com/Product-Detail.asp?ProductID=3945&CategoryID=76 here -- there are several colour/design options, though]]) (got stung a fortune for delivery, so don't necessarily recommend it. Although if you have someone in Australia who could send them on for you I think they could easily be repacked and posted far more cheaply than the company itself charged).

PortAndLemon · 23/07/2008 23:00

Darn. Here

bearmama · 23/07/2008 23:32

Thanks everyone. Watching this thread with interest!

Sal22 · 24/07/2008 08:52

Good morning all, and very welcome, bearmama.

Those muslin swaddle blankets look brilliant. I might get my mom to make and post me one, as she's got a material shop anyway, so should have some in stock. I wonder at what age they grow out of it completely. I'm going to express again most of the day, so this will be my search of the day: swaddling...

Btw, I was just thinking this morning, as I dragged myself out of bed because R demanded a more cheerful and awake mom to practice his morning chat on - why oh why does the things you like as a child go out the window as an adult??? I clearly remember jumping out of bed in the morning, running ahead when we went for a walk with my mom (grew up on a farm, so was safe), etc etc. I've turned into the person wanting to say "Oh, run ahead to that point, then turn around and run back to me while I'm walking towards you..." Not that I'm getting old of course

Scampmum · 24/07/2008 10:02

Morning all! Sal, huge congratulations, very proud of you. Am pretty sure I have your BabyBjorn, by the way, it just looks a bit fresher than mine!

M2B - sounds like absolute bliss. Sometimes my whole body and soul just feel SO exhausted and all I can think about is going to a spa (and/or buggering off to an ashram in India, though in the light of day that always feels a bit extreme ).

Sorry have been off for so long. Sag, gutted to miss you at the meetup but I know well how it feels! Great news about your DD's allergies. And A's sleep - although, not wishing to tempt fate, we have now had TWO nights (not consecutive, of course) of 11-5.20!! Have I been sensible and gone to bed at 8pm on those nights? Of course not - I couldn't possibly on Monday though as The Wire Season 5 started . I stupidly left my pump in Yorkshire (was housesitting with my dad for 8 days) and the defrosted milk seems to make her gag (smells/tastes a bit funny too ) so need to get another pump (uncle and aunt not back for another two weeks) so DH can do the 10.30 feed. On both nights she has woken around 3.30 and intermittently shouted so it's not the best quality sleep for me but I am absolutely not complaining! Oh, and last night DD1 was up too, think too cold as went to bed just in pyjama top.

Scorpio, hope you are/aren't pg (delete as applicable!) Sorry not to respond to email, cot being picked up next week and deffo up for meeting on 15th. Can't do 16th or 17th, though.

VS, can I get your autograph? I think you (and Alex) look stunning in the pic.

We still swaddle in a miracle blanket which is relatively light, occasionally put another flannel sheet on her when I go to bed as she is very wiggly and gets her feet out in seconds. Can't remember when stopped swaddling DD1.

Welcome bearmama.

PM and Soph, great to hear from you both. Fingers crossed for the hearing test. Don't worry about going back to work, Soph, he sounds like a lovely chilled baby. I left DD1 at a similar age and felt v. guilty but she absolutely loved nursery and now she's like a little celebrity there because everyone's known her for so long! She is also (as some here can testify) a very gregarious little lady.

Sal22 · 24/07/2008 10:13

Hi Scampmum. I wondered about the BabyBjorn too - couldn't put my finger on it, but it seemed strangely unfamiliar (probably just the length it was adjusted to, can't see anything else, but then, I don't take much notice of things lately anyway). I am sure though that mine's not cleaner . Oh well, we can swop back on the 15th!

Btw, here's the meet-up thread for all that can make it.
