lucky - if you read this before you go, have a fab time
(well obv hope you have had a fab time even if you read it afterwards!) hope your mothercare stuff arrived, drive safely.
and about the police!

gingeme - lol about people's funny looks you cradle snatcher you! but how cut and wonderful for your bigger boys to be able to a) help you out and b) have such an experience with their younger brothers. i was 9 when my youngest brother was born and i loved looking after him - voluntarily had him in my room for a while he must have been a good sleeper - or i was!
so what year has ds3 been in this year? (confused)
have fun swimming, determined to get all 4 of us swimming soon, need to find out if i have a costume that fits tho

simpson - have fun at the party, sounds like the kind of awkward situ i get myself into!
we (ante-natal group) have a b-day party coming up and we've not been invited but know lots who have, i have made a card, should i buy a present? will it just make the mum feel bad for not inviting us? there was a general 'oh you're all invited' comment ages ago but i haven't been told the details of the party. and if i'm honest i'm not bothered about not going, just obsessed with new hobby of making cards!

thanks for the good luck wishes, something must have worked, ds2 slept 7-5, yey!
and he only woke then cos ds1 had some kind of nightmare involving upsy daisy (at least i think so as he was screaming for her and as soon as i ran downstairs, got her, brought her to him and laid him down cuddling her he went back to sleep ).
wonder how long ds2 might have slept otherwise....

think we must be coming out of the (second) awful growth spurt.. you know it's bad when even your dad (who admits he knows nothing about babies despite having had 4 himself!) starts telling you give rice & milk in a bottle before bedtime.......

ds2 loving toast and rice cakes atm. tried some savoury flapjacks from blw site, not sure they quite worked out right but dh liked them....ds2 did too i think.

lily - i know i know, what was i thinking! we all had to pick a song, then they were shuffled to decide who went first and i couldn't decide so was told i would have to go first with anything if i didn't hurry up.
i knew it was a car crash waiting to happen...and it was
some of the others were great, some were just enthusiastic , but i was rubbish, so was my dh i'm glad afraid to say
well done to your ds

right, 6am, time to make tea, go back upstairs with ds2 who's lying on the floor getting fed up, and wake dh.

back later

nicky6 · 13/07/2008 11:01

susiemj · 13/07/2008 13:06

Nicky - it's difficult deciding now. Sometimes Sabela willonly take a bit of food and then milk, sometimes the other way around.

Gingeme was your big boy mortified?

Lucky - have fun!

JKS - totally Sabela teething and currently up at 12.30, 3.00 and then hourly from then. Just going t keep plugging away though. What do you think worked? Just development taking its course?

Lily - you must be proud!

Simpson - good luck with the parsnips!

Hello filly! Tamara any better?

MM - COOOOUTE. IS he in the garden?

Hell betterhalf! Nice to see you.

OK. How many toys should I take away with me?

gingeme · 13/07/2008 13:06

Hi guys!!

Just got back from taking DS to a birthday party. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. Although at the beginning none of the parents spoke to each other just watched their own kids.

My brother had DD and she has been really good. I thought she might have given him a hard time but she was a little star!!

My dad is here and my mum and other brother are coming over this evening and we are getting a takeaway so saves cooking!

DD did not go through the night last night for the first time in ages. She woke at 3am and again at 6am. So may give some babyrice tomorrow...

madmouse · 13/07/2008 21:05

Hello

Busy day today, dh preached for the first time in his new parish at 9am and 11am so Nathan and I went to the 11am, and again to a special evening service for the bereaved in the small daughter church. so all churched out now. I wanted to hear dh preach so I asked the rector's sensible teen daughters to have Nathan, so they took him to sunday school. He seemed to have fun and they only brought him back when he got hungry! Then I got dh some black coffee after the service and little man stuck two of his fingers in it. He wailed with shock and pain, but seemed more upset when a retired nurse and I held it under the tap for 10mins just in case. Well she held his fingers and I held the wriggling screaming rest of him. he is fine though.

and we're teething! Nathan has a bright red right cheek and keeps waking up crying so I have just given him some calpol. from the sound of it it has helped to settle him. for those of you who have done this before, approximately how long before a tooth appears?

gingeme · 13/07/2008 22:40

Ouch Nathan glad he's all ok. No time limit on teeth appearing I'm afraid. Could be days could be weeks
Lol susiemj no he wasn't mortified just said 'I don't care'
Well we all went swimming and George absolutely loved it he was splashing like a goodun. We stayed in for about 45 minutes and got changed. He was a bit grizzly so I picked him up and he fell straight to sleep in my arms. When we got home he drank his bottle in seconds and had a whole jar of Grandpas Sunday Roast. Oh and a fromage frais . I think we'll be frequenting the pool more often.
Oh I dream of going into any of my children at 8.30 am nicky6 7am would do nicely thankyou without the 4am feed please?
Well I'm off to bed. Planning to put ds3's stabilisers on his bike tommorrow so his big brothers can give him some help riding his bike .
Night all xxxx

Kelix · 14/07/2008 14:44

Hi all
Just thought I'd pop in and say hi, not much happening here. Just bought DD a bebepod - she loves it. Going to get some cleaning done whilst she is enjoying her new seat.

Anyone else have a bebepod or simular?
What do you little ones think of it?
Bye for now.

gingeme · 14/07/2008 14:49

bebepod?

Kelix · 14/07/2008 15:28

bebepod - first link hope it works!!

Amani · 14/07/2008 16:04

Hi everyone

simpson · 14/07/2008 18:38

Hi all

Been a very busy day today am knackered. Had yet another bad night with DD and 2 night feeds so she needs something more than milk I think. Have been out for most of the day today so may try tomorrow although am out quite a bit then too.

Did loads more pureeing this evening. Have done parsnip, carrot & courgette, sweet potato & broccoli.Lets hope DD likes it!!

DD just gone to bed now just have to do bath, book, bed with DS....

perapera · 14/07/2008 19:54

Hi all

IS there a growth spurt around 5.5 months? DD seems to be feeding ALL the time! I wanted to wait till 6 mths before weaning - don't know why, just had it in my mind - but I cracked today and gave her a banana! Most of which she threw on the floor...How long does it take before they work out what to do with food (if anyone is doing BLW?)?

Also cracked last night with the no feeding in the night thing - I couldn't take it after an hour of whooping and bubble blowing and shouting at 4.30, I just fed her and she went back to sleep

JKS - very impressed with 7-5! Let's hope tonight is a repeat...without the nightmare of course

Madmouse - poor Nathan teething - is he dribbling a lot?

simpson · 14/07/2008 20:32

perapera - Also wanted to wait till 6 mths but don't think we will now.DD 24 weeks now. Only reason I didn't crack today is coz we were out all day. DD now feeds every one and a half hours and yesterday had 12 ozs and was promptly sick on herself as her tummy could not handle that much milk. Want to do BLW but I know DD not ready yet so going to do purees for around 4/6 weeks and gradually introduce finger foods and cut down purees till she is eating what we eat.

madmouse · 14/07/2008 20:39

spinach and chicken rocks according to Nathan, particularly on your face, in your neck, under your eye, and on your hands after sticking them in the bowl.

pera, yes lots of drool and chewing hands, although less so today. Also very bad nights.

Am also feeding all the time it seems, but Nathan is not putting on much weight. I think he feeds often rather than a lot. But my dad said i was born long and then dropped down the centiles, and dh was exceptionally small so it seems ok.

Seen the health visitor today and she recommends solids twice a day, one savoury, one fruit and at normal meal times for socializing.

Nathan is 5.5 months and I am doing purees and yogurts but also rice cakes, which he loves and pieces of bread and brocoli, just for him to figure out what to do with.

gingeme · 14/07/2008 22:51

Ah bumbo seat kelix
Had a crappy night last night. Started yesterday at 10pm with ds3 crying. Not sure why. He usualy has a drink and settles back down but didn't. Kept on till 11.30 when eventualy he went back to bed after looking at photos on the pc.
Then ds4 woke about 4am and was sick. I cleard it up changed his sheet and jamas and settled him back down. ds5 then started crying for his feed at 4.15 so I got his bottle by which time ds4 was sick again and dh was dealing with that. Dh bought ds4 into our room which he was sick again on our bed . Changed sheet and ds4's jamas. Settled back to feeding ds5 and dh took ds4 into the living room to watch the tele. It was 5am by now and dh said for me to go back to sleep and he would have a sleep later. Ds5 was still wriggling and chatting in his cot till 5.45. I finaly dropped off to be woken by ds3 at 7.15 am. Tried to get back to sleep but gave up and put on the first of 6 loads of washing
Phew! Luckily ds4 was sick a couple more times. Had a long sleep then had a piece of (home made) bread and butter and chirped right up
Wonder what joys tommorrow will bring .
Off to bed now. Night all xxx

AngeChica · 15/07/2008 09:32

Morning all. DS has had a cold last few days; cue broken sleep and clinginess. He seems to be on the mend today though.

Have been busy racking brains about how to take all we need for DS for a month with Easyjet's measly baggage allowance. Think he will be living in vests for that month .

The only recognisable brand out there is Hipp Organic. I rang ther Aptamil helpline and they done't sell it out there. I will either have to take at least 4 tubs of Aptamil out there or hope he will be OK on the Hipp milk. Gonna try him on it this week.... I know, would have been less hassle if still BF

Also scary prospect of living without a microwave, dishwasher and having to borrow neighbour's washing machine.

However, it will be so nice to go out there and chill for a month - the first year without having to do any work on the house.

AngeChica · 15/07/2008 09:35

Meant to say .... has anyone moved on to follow on milk at 6 months and has anyone tried that night time milk?

lilyloo · 15/07/2008 10:16

Gingeme it's so lovely when you can walk away all happy with them isn't it especially when another adult who they spend more time with thinks so

Lucky have lovely time

LOL at JKS i remember doing karaoke drunk and i thought i was fab sober NEVER !

Susie as little as possible on the toy front i find it's too much to carry and they never really bother with them anyway!

Simpson glad the party was ok!

Madmouse on the tooth front how long is a piece of string ! Sometimes they seem to be getting a tooth for ages then a few appear at once!

Kelix never had one but it looks similair to a bumbo which i believe are really good!

Amani

Nicky

Pera/Simpson i am not finding the food is helping with the sleeping at all But we are doing puree veg/fruit and then finger foods such as bread/rice cakes etc.

Ange of hol am sure vests will be fine anyway

Well all those who won't eat sweet potato mix it with tomato it makes the consistency much better.
Sypmathy to all those withy crap sleep but we back there too

Amani · 15/07/2008 10:37

Morning all,

Hope all is well. Took DD2 to the doc yesterday as I discovered a lump at the back of her neck, which got me into panicky mode, but was tod it was normal due to teething and as a result of her eczema. Not happy with doc response as he was running an hour behind and hurridly looked at her...

Oh, also been told I've got an under active thyroid and been told it is likely I have to be on medication for life for it........was a bit annoyed as the GP was rushing me and I don't have the full picture as to what it means....

Simpson - well done with the purees - got parsnip on the menu today...

mixedmama · 15/07/2008 10:50

lost my threads... am going to catch up now

mixedmama · 15/07/2008 11:29

Right am up to speed now,.... altho sure I will forget everything or at least not remember who said what.

Lucky - i knwo you are already in Eastbourne... but have a good time

JKS - I cannot sing a note, but I am/was a good mover so I once came second in karaoke by doing Shakira and not singing a note

I have doen lots of pureeing as well although DS2 has really only the last week really started eating... he actually seems to be enjoying it now and opens his mouth. We have swede and carrot (which I bought already cut into cubes as i am lazy) and cauliflower, carrot and brocolli all together. he seems to like both. Sweet potato with sqaush used to be good with DS1. Also my fave (and DS1 fave) was potatoes, courgettes and cheese from Annabel Karmel, but I think that may have been a little down the line.

I knwo pureeing is hassle, but for soem reason I have an obsession with it and just cannot give jar food, I think it is because I know there are some areas where I am a little crap, not BF for long enough, not enough patience, not interacting as much as i would like... but making DS2 food is one thing i can do and it gives me a buzz to think i am doing it. I think that sounds a little ridiculous, but there it is.

Filly - I hope you have got yuourself off to the GP.

Angechica - we are lucky as we have a washing machine, no dishwasher, but plenty of us to do the washing up (which normally is for at least 15 people but easily reaches 30 some evenings). My dad is buying a microwave for me to heat up DS2 bits (I know I shouldnt use a microwave, but it is just so easy). He flew out yesterday so keeps ringing to see what else i need bless him.

And I cant remeber who was asking about toys... (Susie). I am not taking anything really... DS1 will prob take Buzz Lightyear who goes everywhere with him at the moment and will fill his little rucksack with crayons and stuff but thats about it. DS2 his toys are tiny so no probs there.

mixedmama · 15/07/2008 11:29

Whoops and obv hello to everyone.

simpson · 15/07/2008 11:52

Morning,

Well DD has just had her first taste of baby rice and she loved it. DH was feeding her and I was taking pics then I thought the baby rice was too thick so asked DH to add milk. He got milk out of fridge and poured it on! Cue me running around making more & DD screaming coz she wants more baby rice NOW.

Also yesterday I bought her the lovliest summer dress she is wearing it today and has just done a massive poo all over it!! Hope it doesn't stain as its white, must get the vanish out!

simpson · 15/07/2008 11:55

Forgot to say, Angechica someone gave me 2 tins of cow & gate normal milk as their DD has a cows milk allergy but once they are finished DD will be Hipp Organic follow on.

Amani - sorry to hear about crap doc

Mixed mama - I love pureeing too!!

Hi to everyone else, will do proper catchup later....
