Hi all,

Just stopping in to say it's my birthday! Sabela woke up at 5, poor mite, because she's got a cold, but we're carrying on regardless.

She hates sweet potato too. It's carrots, apricots and tomatoes all the way with her! Strange child...

simpson · 12/07/2008 11:48

Susiemj - Happy Birthday!!Hope Sabela gets better.

I hope DD likes sweet potato bought a big bags worth! Going to supermarket later to get courgette and parsnip too. Were sold out yesterday.

lilyloo · 12/07/2008 13:53

Think the potato might be too thick so going to try mixing it with more runny veg like cauli/broccoli etc. and see how we go.

Happy birthday Susie

Just wanted to say how very proud i am of ds he has got a super report off his teacher getting excellent for every subject and she said he is a polite, well behaved boy who always applies himself and he has been a pleasure to teach [very proud emotion]

Happy Birthday Susie!!

madmouse · 12/07/2008 15:51

Naetha, how lovely to see you and how fab that Ben is doing so well!

Susie, happy 21st

Lily, too right that you are proud, after all he has chosen to behave this well and to really do his best. lovely little chap!

Amani, half is indeed 250cals, but you need to look at how much baby is still getting from you. While they learn to eat solids it is milk that sustains them. But weight watchers says 10 points for fully breastfeeding and 5 for supplementing with solids.

All very uneventful here.

rockdoctor · 12/07/2008 16:05

Hello everyone, mind if I jump back in? I was an occasional poster many moons ago but then things got a bit busy and I dropped out.

DD was born on the 2 Jan so we are now getting into the food thing in earnest - she's another one who has rejected sweet potato but loves anything with banana or mango in it.

Have been enjoying catching up with the posts. We're currently in Portugal, staying with my mil for a month. Think sleepy village rather than beach resort, so hopefully I will have more time to join in.

Kelix · 12/07/2008 17:01

Hello everyone, been a busy weekend here! DD has been a little angel this tho. Stayed at my mums last night as usual (stays there every friday ) and was good as gold. She has been a greedy little so and so the last few days, she whinged and whinged earlier because my sister was eating a yoghurt (DD favourite food in the world) so I ended up giving in and giving her a yoghurt which she demolished in about 30 seconds! Getting harder to fill her not so little tum, cant complain tho as she eats almost anything!

justkeepswimming - no never done karaoke sober, although last night I did do a very drunken karaoke (hangs head in shame) I really cant sing!!
suzie - happy birthday, hope you enjoy
lilyloo - well done at DS report, I bet your a very proud Mummy
Simpson - sorry to hear about neighbour, poor love

Tyring to convince DP we need a holiday - wish me luck

Hope everyone having a nice weekend so far.

simpson · 12/07/2008 17:23

Does anyone know whether it is ok to use frozen broccoli florets, defrost them then steam and puree and refreeze in ice cube trays?

LuckySalem · 12/07/2008 17:38

Simpson - I wouldn't defrost and re-freeze (I'm sure i've heard somewhere thats bad) but I use frozen brocolli yes

simpson · 12/07/2008 18:08

Lucky - wasn't sure if it applied to just meat. Can you beleive it NO broccoli anywhere in supermarket yesterday or today!!

fillybuster · 12/07/2008 20:25

Susie - happy birthday! Hope you're having a lovely day despite the early start and that Sabela gets better soon

Simpson - you can defrost and re-freeze as long as you cook it in between as that kills off any bacteria that grow during the defrosting stage. You can do the same for frozen raw meat - defrost, cook then refreeze

Lucky - enjoy your trip ...you should have a lovely couple of days although you'll be exhausted after that drive home at night!

Rockdoctor - welcome back

Lilyloo - congrats to ds on his report...its so lovely when they make us proud, isn't it? My ds also came home with a lovely first ever report and my very proud dh has photocopied it to stick on his office wall!!!

Amani - I agree with MM, it's probably about 250 cals (so not 2 cream cakes, sadly...!) - altho it is hard to be certain.

Tamara is still completely bunged up which is definitely affecting her appetite, especially at breakfast time (she's worse after lying down all night). I had a horrible moment yesterday when she started crying in the middle of her sleep and I went in just in time to watch her start being sick because of all the phlegm building up in her chest when she's lying down. If she and I aren't better on Monday then I'm making an appt with the GP...

Had a lovely day out with the kids but knackered now...time for a hot bath, I think xxx

nicky6 · 12/07/2008 20:30

the guru annabel karmel says its fine to use frozen veg cook puree and refreeze so go for it.

charlie had baby rice and apple this morning and carrot and pea puree at lunch and still drained all 4 bottles of 7oz, think i need to try some other things and up the quantities so maybe she cuts down on the ilk a iittle bit thing is she is totally disinterested in drinking water and dont really want to give her juice - oh well keep trying

glad all well with everyone me and dh off to the end of year ball tomorrow night from our ballroom dancing lessons should be a giggle only ungiggle is i cant fit into my clothes arghh

madmouse · 12/07/2008 20:34

hi guys, check out the new pics I uploaded, including one of nathan following a bad case of babyrice

betterhalf · 12/07/2008 20:35

Madmouse, he's absolutely gorgeous. How cute is he.

justkeepswimming · 12/07/2008 20:58

sooo cute madmouse

hi rockdoctor (geologist right?)

hi everyone else, as usual a bit behind...

had a good night last night but no, karaoke sober doesn't work i was rubbish.
mind you i chose badly too (rasputin anyone?!?)
and my throat still hurts from my cough (actually worse today so think the singing was a bad idea).
anyway, all knackered today, got to bed at 1, up at 4, 5 & 5.30. then dh took the boys and i got to sleep in till 8.30

also a minor breakthrough, at 5, ds2 wasn't really awake just crying, gave him his muslin and he went back to sleep, hooray! that's the first time at night i've resettled him without feeding him.

so, need an early night tonight.
good luck with sleeping everyone, fingers crossed xxx

simpson · 12/07/2008 21:05

Cheers for tip re frozen veg have loads of frozen broccoli and cauliflower in freezer so will be good to be able to use it for DD.

Madmouse - what gorgeous pics!! I think Nathan looks like you.

Kelix - fingers X you get a holiday!

Rockdoctor - Hi and please don't say there is another LO who didn't like sweet potato have cooked loads of the stuff!!

Filly - Sorry to hear you and Tamara are still sick. Fingers X are better before Mon and don't need to go to docs. Hope DS doesn't get it.

Nicky6 - Enjoy tomorrow night!

Lilyloo - I have done carrot puree and sweet potato puree today but I think my sweet pot might be a bit thick too but will see...Think the first time I get a school report for DS I will be all overcome, just know I will blub on his first day at school!!

Lucky - How many more sleeps now?!

DD has been feeding loads today and one feed had 11 ozs!!Which is a lot for her normally has 5/6. Going to see if it settles down in the next day or two otherwise will start solids I think.

Got birthday party tomorrow which I am dreading. Its a little boy at DS's playgroup never said one word to the mother before and don't know anyone else who is going. Got my brother looking after DD as it will be a lot less stressful without her even though she is good really.

simpson · 12/07/2008 21:08

JKS - X post. I can't even brave karaoke totally pissed!! Good luck for getting lots of sleep tonight!!

lilyloo · 12/07/2008 21:17

OP posts:
madmouse · 12/07/2008 21:39

eeeeeuw have just made some cubes of veg puree for Nathan to try. You know what they say on the continent they use parsnips as cattle food? Well, it is true(in Dutch it is literally called feed-root). I bought oe as other mums say that babies like it as it is sweet. Well, good for him if that is the case, but I was gagging over the sieve . Well if he likes it I will do a bigger batch in the food processor that won't be so bad.

Also made some apple and plum puree, the colour of which makes me wonder whether I should feed him this in the garden dressed only in a nappy

simpson · 12/07/2008 21:50

Oh no madmouse - have bought loads of parsnips to puree tomorrow!! Having said that though parsnip was DS's favourite puree that and butternut squash. Have bought courgettes too maybe I'll mix them together...

LuckySalem · 12/07/2008 22:55

Right I have read and as I was reading I was trying to remember stuff but am knackered.

Lilly - Yes eventually Then at 1am bloody exhaust guy turned up sat reving his engine with his music blaring.
Hey did I tell you on Tues night at 1:30am I had a banging (couldn't even be half thought of as knocking it was banging) on the door which wakes DD up so me in my PJ's goes downstairs and looked out the window to see police (Cue me frantic about DP) open the door -
Police: Is Steve in please?
Me: Sorry I don't know a steve.
Police: Sorry what number house is this
Me: 145
Police: Oh wrong number, sorry bye
I mean the number is right next to the door did they have to bang scare the crap outta me and wake DD?

Anyways ....
Madmouse - Nathan is gorgeous, we've had a couple of them... lol

Simpson - 1 more sleep, I'm leaving at 8am tomorrow. D'uh of corse its only for meat (stupid lucky... lol) DD likes Sweet potato.. loves it!!

Ermm if there were more I'm sorry but I am shattered (wish I could blame pregnancy brain.. that was handy.. lol )

gingeme · 12/07/2008 23:02

madmouse your baby is sooooooooo sweet. Love the pics with grandad
Been a madhouse here with my big boys staying but they are all enjoying eachothers company. My eldest took George out in the sling for a while yesterday. We got some funny looks on the bus I can tell you. Young lad carrying small baby sitting next to a slightly older lady
We are going to take George swimming for the first time tommorrow. If he loves it as much as the rest of the boys well be winning
lillyloo your ds1 sounds a dream. We had parents evening on Thursday and like you came home very proud parents. ds3 is so enjoying school. His teacher said she will realy miss him when he goes to reception.
You ladies are being so good doing all your pureeing. I'm lazily feeding from jars or pouches. Georges last meal usualy falls a bit before our dinner so when we have our afters we sit him at the table to have a fromage frais which he absolutely loves
Well off to bed now.
Take care all. I'll pop by when I can xxx

LuckySalem · 12/07/2008 23:14
