just got the bit about the stopping bf. what did the mw's say or do? VS knows a bit about starting again (i think) but i don't at all. Sounds like you are having a bad time.

elfsmummy · 15/06/2008 19:40

Ellie, Thinking of you all so much.
How frightening and scary for you. It must be horrible being out of your own environment but for what its worth I think you did 100% the best thing bringing Molly with you. I'm sure that you can be a better support to Rob if you're not worrying about having left Molly too.

If there's anything that any of us here on "the mainland!" can do for you whilst you're here please holler. Have you got all the equipment you need for Molly or did you have to leave in a rush? Between us I'm sure we could get anything you need to you.

Hopefully it'll be a case of angiogram and stents and you'll be back home - but even if he needs a bypass I'm always amazed how quickly people are up and about after those. (I worked in cardiac surgery before DD1)

My thoughts are with you all

VictorianSqualor · 15/06/2008 20:02

Oh Ellie, how horrid.
Hope he gets better soon.
Scorpio is right about being able to restart BFing if you want to, it's apparently pretty similar to starting off the first time, just keep latching and skin-to-skin etc.

Denny185 · 15/06/2008 21:47

Eliie what an absolute bummer, hope Rob is on the mend soon and dosen't need too much intervention. I suppose on the flip side of the coin at least it has highlighted a problem and he can be treated. So sorry about your wedding plans, you are not being selfish or stupid.

scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 09:35

I have 2 friends who had baby's the same week i had Mimi, and both have started smoking again - they said it doesn't get in your milk.....true or false? i think surely it must?

EllieG · 16/06/2008 11:26

Thanks so much ladies. Rob has gone in for angiogram and possibly stents now so should know more then.

scorpio, I will email you now - of course you aren't paying for it don't be daft I don't need it. Was much easier than the hand one and regularly got quite a bit of milk out.

Thanks for offers of support PAL and others, if we have to stay longer I may well take you up on it but hopfully we will be going home tomorrow if he doesn't need anything else done.

scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 11:41

emailed you Ellie Thanks!

Sal22 · 16/06/2008 11:57

Scorpio, I've been trying to find info on smoking and breastfeeding - this might help.

VictorianSqualor · 16/06/2008 12:49

What I've read about smoking and BFing is that it comes down to two sets of risks.
Risks of formula feding and risks of smoking, if you can be a non-smoker and breastfeed that's two lots of risks not mattering to your child.
If you can't be a non-smoker (sorry, but IMO that's bollocks, everyone can not smoke) then at least by BFing you'll only be putting them at risk of one set of risks, iyswim.
If you do decide to start smoking again, yes, some will go through your milk, the baby will get some of it, and their are the extra risks of not being able to hold baby for an hour(ish) before the smoke has come out of your lungs possibly meaning you finding it harder to feed on demand, co-sleeping is compromised and not seen as safe with a smoker, plus the stats on illnesses that are related to BFing (things like how likely they are to get gastroenteritis, ear infections, chest infections, asthma, eczema etc etc) will not eb the same, the smoking will make the chances of getting these things higher.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 13:05

oh no i dont want to smoke i just thought surely that cannot be true.

i actually havent even thought about it, which is odd for me.

Anyway, i have gp appt tomorrow for fluc hopefully. my nipples feel like someone is cutting them with glass!

scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 13:06

and im not stopping feeding if it won't go either.

VictorianSqualor · 16/06/2008 13:19

Oh right well, good.
Sorry if I sounded a bit hard, my Dad died of lung cancer, so I get quite about smoking!

EllieG · 16/06/2008 14:06

Darling lovely DP is fine! He hasn't had a heart attack after all! They did the angiogram and his arteries are clear, but there was some inflamation to the heart wall. They said this was probably brought on by a virus, and that the effect of it was that it mimiced a heart attack by producing same enzymes in blood which is why he had all symptoms and the bloods came back saying he had had one. Could only tell by doing the angiogram that wasn't.

I am so so so happy - thank you all loads for letting me moan and for all the virtual cake. Am off home tomorrow and we can see DSD and plan another wedding!

Am off now to feed DD and do a little dance of excitement and happiness round Tooting.

And he has had to stop smoking and intends to remain so too as he has discovered his colesterol is very high and he got very scared by all this so hurrah hurrah for that too

Speak later!

Scorpio will send it off wed x

scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 14:08

x 10000000

you must be so pleased! well pleased its not a HA at least!

Thanks again

Scampmum · 16/06/2008 14:21

Oh Ellie, that's fantastic, was just logging on to ask if I could do anything because I'm a 10 minute drive from Tooting. Let me know if I can!

ALTHOUGH, we hit an all-time low here last night, DH woken at 4.45 by my sobbing uncontrollably having been up since 12.10. Have now booked a maternity nurse at expense for five nights from Thurs-Mon. I'm literally at the end of my tether and feeling like I SHOULD be coping and I'm really rubbish for not managing is not helping. So with any luck it will turn out to be an excellent investment as it will save my marriage which is priceless.

It was work on Friday for DH, he had to debrief a colleague after a nightmare meeting but mean old me didn't give him a chance to tell me on the phone before I hung up and came on MN to slag him off.

scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 14:23

Scampmum - bugger the money, if you need it you need it.

and do not for a second think you are not coping - they are happy healthy and fed, yes? Well, then!!

I really hope that this maternity nurse helps you. What will she be doing?

scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 14:29

AIBU?

i have a friend who text me to say she misses me etc blah blah. so i arrange to meet her on friday. No show.

She rearranges for today after 'forgetting' to text me on friday. At 12pm today she said she was just coming (lives half hr away)

she is still not here and no text. We had arranged to take dc to the park, now Jamie cannot go coz its too close to school time and park is a good walk away.

i am

PeachyWontLieToYou · 16/06/2008 16:08

Scampmum, coping is about finduing solutions to problems- a maternity nurse is a solution, therefore ytou're coping!

Ellie- missed it all as was away- glad to hear he's ok, what a scary time!

Weighing day tomorrow. If Bas hasn't grown I think were going to introduce a daily bottle, given by DH. DH has put his foot down as when away he witnessed the marathon all night feeds I am used to. He agrees Bas is getting enough, he seems to have a high metabolism- like DH. I'm going to ty and hold off though for a few weeks, he'll be 3 moths in a fortnight, maybe the.

milestone- Bas can roll over! How super quick is that???? .

PeachyWontLieToYou · 16/06/2008 16:08

Oh scorpio

yanbu as you well know!

PortAndLemon · 16/06/2008 16:42

Great news, Elie -- obviously would have been great to have seen you, but glad that circumstances mean I won't get the opportunity IYSWIM.

Scampmum, a maternity nurse seems like a good investment and definitely the right plan for you at the moment.

Scorpio, YANBatallU

VictorianSqualor · 16/06/2008 16:45

Crikey Peachy! Lex tries a bit, but gets stuck half way and falls back on his back

Scorpio no YANBU.

Heard something really horrible today
I've mentioned on MN a few times about this woman that gets the same bus as me gobbing off at her DD'S,(1yr, 3yrs &5yrs) and not being the greatest of parent's, but on friday she was really horrid to her eldest DD (5) shouting at her to sit down on the bus (there were no seats for her to sit on!) so the DD went to walk off to find a seat and the mum grabbed her and pushed her against the bus window, shouting and screaming at her.
Well apparently the day before she had picked u the middle DD(3) and threw her in the chair, shouting at her 'for once in your sad, sorry life can you just do as you're fing told'
I witnessed fridays scene, my friend witnessed thursdays, and she knows the family, lives just behind their house and was getting worried about hearing screaming from the little girls and mum and dad f
ing and blinding, so she mentioned it to her teacher (my friends DD is the same class, and the school have now reported her to SS because the DD had massive bruises on her back which they'd noticed at P.E. and weren't sure what to say, obviously with my friends, and other peoples accounts they decided it was too risky not to call anyone and it looks like the bruises were done by mum and dad

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 16:50

VS. you have done the right thing talking about it though.

I just text my friend saying that i have waited in for her again and next time could she just text me please. Thats 2 afternoons i have wasted. and Jamie couldnt go to the park.

Tomorrow i have GP and farking contraception appt. i know i have to do something or i will end up pg again very soon but ffs im only 23 and am sick of it already (has been 10 years on something or another now). i cannot bring myself to have anyone poking me down there yet; weird but its becuase millie was so big and i really felt it iyswim that i need to get over that. Pill it is then. DH is shite at condoms and it costs a fortune!!

VictorianSqualor · 16/06/2008 16:53

I'm on micronor, I have my phone set to go off at 11:50am everyday so I remember to take it!

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 16/06/2008 16:55

I'm gonna have to do something like that too, its just something else I have to do! and i am quite liking not having a body full of hormones if that makes sense. Will i start having periods now then? or withdrawal bleeds?

PortAndLemon · 16/06/2008 17:04

You could ask for cerezette, which another minipill but with a much larger (12 hour) window in which you can take it. It's a bot more expensive so GPs tend to be a little less inclined to prescribe it, so ask for it by name and lay it on thick about how you are very scatty with a small baby and will never manage to remember to take a pill in a 3-hour window.
