Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
chipmonkey · 12/05/2008 13:37

I was ttc ds4 for a year with no success and ds3 was a toddler at that stage. Within 2 months of giving up bf I was pg, so it seemed to work as a contraceptive for us.
( Disclaimer: chipmonkey not responsible for any babies conceived whilst bfing!)

VictorianSqualor · 12/05/2008 13:55

had your periods returned CM?
With ds2 we had been ttcing for about 8 months, no joy, then before i even had a proper period after my cevix op we conceived so I blame my cervix

OP posts:
Denny185 · 12/05/2008 14:02

Im just coming to the end of my first period and feeding 8 times a day so Im quite glad we went down the condom route (annoying as they are), but christ on a bike if anything had happen I think DH would be moving out into the garage

Sal if your gp is anything like mine v little happens at the 6 week check just lots of questions and guidance for contraception. They do more with the baby than u.

Nice bra's scorpio

Sal22 · 12/05/2008 14:11

lol denny. utterly disappointed to hear period back already. urgh, that's the one thing i really looked forward to missing while breastfeeding! oh well, at least everything works, so good i guess.

thanks for info on checkup. would bet my life my gp will be the same then.

TLSM · 12/05/2008 14:57

I cant believe some of you are talking about TTC! My DH will be lucky if he gats near me in the next 6 months! but then if I remember correctly you both had quite tasty DHs

VictorianSqualor · 12/05/2008 16:25

I think we lasted about a week after Alex was born before resuming marital relations

I keep bleeding on and off so wouldn't dare to take it as no period and just continued lochia, it'd be just my luck I fell pg straight away!

Hello all, how exciting to be officially post natal!

CONGRATS Sagitta - hope all still going ok. Well done on it happening naturally and so quickly!

Congrats M2BR, too. She is lovely.

We are really suffering from sleep deprivation here - DD2 was awake at least once an hour all night. She is knackered today and keeps crying, does feed well but then cries afterwards and won't be put down. I was OK this morning but tried to nap during DD1's nap (she is still asleep after 2hr20, bless the little lamb) but DD2 is having none of it. She's not hungry, she's not dirty/wet, she has burped, she's not too cold or hot and yet she is still screaming. Wahey, it's DD1 all over again! At least this time I know it does end (sometime in August ).

Sorry for sounding dejected, I'm just really fucking knackered!

And [hollow laugh emoticon] about you guys TTC. You're made of sterner stuff than I am.

Scorpio I was thinking of you yesterday watching Shipwrecked ( well, I was breastfeeding and didn't have the mental energy for the newspapers) and that some of them are older than you are!

Who's up for a London meet-up, then? Best time for me is Tues/Weds/Thurs am as DD1 at nursery.

Hope you are all doing well and getting more sleep than I am.

Mum2BabyRoo · 12/05/2008 16:39

I cannot believe some of you are even so much as thinking of TTC again!! I'm not sure if I will ever want to have another baby. Well actually I would but I just don't want to go through labour/c-section ever again. The next one will be delivered by the stork!

BF is not great for me - DD is not keen on my nipple - hasn't been from birth. I am now trying with a sheild (which works a little better) and expressing, but to be honest I am not producing very much. The MW says it is normal after the amount of blood I lost, but things should pick up - so here's hoping. One of my friends is a BF consultant and is coming to visit me tomorrow to see how she can help, so fingers crossed we work something out.

Gabriella is one week old today - I cannot believe I have a one week old daughter!! She is so good - DH says it is to make up for the horrible birth!

VictorianSqualor · 12/05/2008 16:43

The best way to produce milk is skin-to-skin and baby being latched as much as possible, I probably would leave the expressing for a day or two, and have a babymoon, much more likely to get your supply up, expressing is pretty crap on supply TBH,ony really helps if you are havign plenty of akin-to-skin and latching too.
Can you have a babymoon??

PortAndLemon · 12/05/2008 17:09

I'm definitely up for a London meet-up. Most times OK for me (unless I have specific things planned).

at sex a week after a c-section. IIRC it still hurt to move at that point after my c-section with DS...

VictorianSqualor · 12/05/2008 17:16

Well, it certainly wasn't aerobic

TheMaskedPoster · 12/05/2008 17:31

Hi all - just checking in ... hope all are well

Sal22 · 12/05/2008 17:33

I'm up for a London meetup too - any time good really.

How are your babies handling the heat? Mine's been really thirsty - he's been attached to my nipple almost ALL day! And when he eventually falls asleep, he's ok sleeping for about 20 mins, and then the process repeats itself. He doesn't seem upset (as long as he gets his milk, of course), is dry, winded etc etc - does this sound ok? He does drink, so not just playing, so I don't want to give him dummy unnecessarily today. On the upside, I'm now up to date with almost ALL mumsnet postings, having spent hours and hours stuck on the sofa!

Denny185 · 12/05/2008 19:14

Aeryn has fed a bit more than normal aswell today which id put down to being thirsty too, shes also been a bit more sleepy with the heat so nap times extended a bit. Quite nice as we went out for a pub lunch and she stayed asleep for the duration, unlike DS who ran around the beer garden like a luney (there wasnt anyone else there BTW otherwise would have stopped him).

DD2 is currently in bed supposed to be asleep but is defying it despite feeding on and off (more on than off) for the last hour and 20 mins. Ah well here goes with side 4......

VictorianSqualor · 12/05/2008 19:29

Alex another thirsty one, and has been sleeping tons more.

SuzeM · 12/05/2008 20:29

Congratulations Sagitta, glad it was easier this time. Congrats also, mummyofaprincess and a prince, and anyone else I've missed!

Mum2BabyRoo,sorry you had a bad time but Gabriella is gorgeous.

VS, lovely photo.

Scampmum, we aren't getting much sleep here either!

I couldn't contemplate another baby, I am still in the Emilia is an only child frame of mind and now dh is too. She is a great kid but we are still finding it very tiring, she is awake a lot at night and wants to be held, which is lovely but not at 2 am! On the plus side, I have little time to eat, so back in my normal clothes but still have a half stone to lose.

I am doing a baby massage course this week so hopefully this will help in a bedtime routine.

My mil is coming over in a week, really looking forward to seeing her!

Can't make a London meetup this week unfortunately, would be nice to put faces to names. Next time.

I'm off to bed while she who must be obeyed sleeps.

V1KK1M · 12/05/2008 20:57

Hi All.

Haven't been on for a while - adjusting to life as a mummy. She appears to be getting more demanding every day

I have put some photo's on my profile now so you can all have a peek. It's amazing hpw big she has gotten already.

PortAndLemon · 12/05/2008 21:23

I'm not sure we're planning on this week specifically, Suze -- just establishing interest at this point, and no doubt there will be much faffing before we actually settle on a date.

DD is a great sleeper at night (or it may be the cosleeping that does it) and if I could guarantee they'd all be like that I'd have a quiverful; but experience with DS tells me there are no guarantees .

She has been very sleepy and sucky today, as well.

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 12/05/2008 21:47

at those of you in london- i only know one other person wiyh a baby bar my sister who is miles away, and that person only took 4 weeks off work (self employed), her daughter born feb.

Bas drinking loads too, and slept all morning- handily through ds1's sports day

sagitta · 13/05/2008 10:34

HI all,

Exciting we're now post natal - sorry it took so long ! Can't believe there is talk of TTC...but at least that helps to reassure me that one day, not too long from now, I will feel less sore and tired and could consider having sex.

DD1 is ill, and Astrid was up all night, so I am off to bed now...zzzz

moominsmummy · 13/05/2008 10:39

hello everyone!!

congrats to sagitta, carey & m2broo - glad we have all crossed over to the other side now (altho big hugs for m2b for difficult time)

i can't believe I ended up with such a speedy birth in the end - we got to the hospital at 8.45 and when I was examined at 8.55 I was only 3 cm dilated - however the exam seemed to trigger things off and james was born at 9.32pm - it was amazingly calm - the MW just left us to ourselves unless she was needed - we had a midwife shift change at 9.15 but the first MW insisted on staying to see the baby arrive. DH got to cut the cord and we had immediate skin to skin with James. I had bad backache for a few days - i think i fried all my back muscles with the TENS machine on boost in the last stages . James looks exactly like his older brother did at this stage and is feeding well (although too much at night time ) - he was weighed yesterday at 5 days old and has put on 2.5oz. He is a very chilled out baby so far but then will probably turn into a nightmare toddler like his older brother did!

i ended up with a first degree tear and no stitches - which is good but seems a bit weird as it's all still a bit "ragged" down there - apparently it will heal by itself - does anyone know how long this will take (not that I'm as keen as Scorpio and VS in the bedroom department mind you!!)

scorpio1 · 13/05/2008 10:53

i did do a post but the fecking laptop lost it.

How is everyone? We are ok, Millie is very snotty and was awake alot last night - she wanted to sleep but her breathing kept waking her up, like snorting DH ended up aleeping in the front room (he has man flu AGAIN) and me and Millie co-slept, and i fed in bed. was so nice actually, normally i get up and go in the front room to feed. So i am very tired. And i feel like i need dh to do a bit more, maybe its just because he has been unwell these last few days. Just feel like i am doing everything.

VS - i keep bleeding on and off too, wonder if having sex is annoying it? i cant hurt myself though can i?

The kittens are still very cute and joey is feeding them well

How long is everyone going to BF for? I dont really know....the last few days i have been very tired and keep thinking about giving up, but i cant do it iyswim, and i'm not going to. gonna have a chat with dh tonight i think.

what is everyone up to? i might go to baby club later if i can be arsed. Millie is v unsettled and not sure i fancy a screeching baby in town.

moominsmummy · 13/05/2008 11:17

scorpio - sorry to hear about rough night - men are soooo pathetic when they are ill

do tell DH how you are feeling (and that he needs to get off his backside and do more)

I am off to Tesco in a moment - exciting eh? but i do feel i need to get out and about on my own - have had my mum here all week which has been great but I am feeling rather claustrophobic now - both my parents were here yesterday when the midwife came and after a couple of minutes I had to ask them to leave the room so I could talk to the midwife - I mean FFS I wouldn't go with them into a GP consultation would I?? everyone seemed to be viewing the MW visit as an opportunity to chat about how lovely James is (which he is of course) rather than it be my medical appointment - grrrrr

(sorry - rant over)

scorpio - go to baby club anyway - there's bound to be other babies screeching louder..

Sal22 · 13/05/2008 11:59

lol about group midwife visit moominsmummy. It's strange how sometimes it's so great to have people around, but then all of a sudden you'll just need space. MIL is coming to visit for a month and a half (FIL joining her after 2 weeks) and I'm worried already. The silly thing is that they're both absolutely brilliant, feels like a second pair of "own" parents actually, but it might get a bit crowded after a while... O well, at least baby sitting sorted

I've just come back from the centre after having had Roelof weighed. He's 5.1kg already! Must be all this extra drinking in the heat. Oh, and the poor thing has "baby acne"!!! (I am a bit relieved, freaked out about all the tiny bumps he got all of a sudden, thought he's allergic to something - but still! Apparently my hormones are to blame - useless things! ) Ooh, and I've booked us in for a baby massage course, can't wait.

Good luck with all the cranky LO's!

VictorianSqualor · 13/05/2008 12:13

Scorpio, I doubt the sex is a problem, the way I see it if the blood is there, it needs to come out, I seem to bleed more when DP is at work. i.e. I'm doing a lot more and trying to be superwoman so I think it's more that than anything.

Definitely speak to DH, especially if you're feeling he isn't doing enough, you only had a baby three weeks ago!!! WRT BFing, if you want to stop, then stop, but make sure that's why, from what you've said it seems you don't want to but are too bloody tired with doing that and everythign else? So make DH do some jobs! Do the kids help out? DD&DS do the washing in this house
