Mimi is trying to iyswim, SO cute! dh is literally stuck at work - the groundsmen people dug a fuck off hole in the site entrance this morning, planning on it being filled back in by 4.30pm - he is still stuck there now! and not being paid.

scorpio1 · 04/06/2008 17:27

there is an upside - i am having fish & chips as we speak....

PeachyWontLieToYou · 04/06/2008 17:43

at 10lb 9oz- bas is 9lb 0.5 oz

PMSL

he doesn't laugh yet! A few smiles- he has some eyesight we know, but HV asst thinks there's some issue there (as there is with me so its just glasses)

He holds his head up reliably though and rolls over LOL- strange (but gorfeous and adored) baby

sagitta · 04/06/2008 19:28

Thank goodness - everyone's in bed. Got Astrid weighed today and she's put on 1lb and 3 oz in 10 days! Now she's 9lb 10oz. But she has reflux, so I've got to be careful about feeding her...

Had crappy day though. Got a terrible cold, and then work phoned as they have 'mistakenly deleted' all the notes I sent over about how to do my job. Spent half an hour on phone while LO cried and I didn't get my nap.

scorpio1 · 04/06/2008 20:14

oh to have a nap!!! i had shite day too.

Mum2BabyRoo · 04/06/2008 20:44

HV day for everyone it seems! Gabriella now weighs 10lb4oz - she has put on 2lbs since birth (and was 4 weeks old on Monday!) So yes, quite the guzzler! She started smiling a few days ago - too cute! Very brief so haven't managed to get a pic of it yet, but I will!!

Nap - I long for a nap...

PortAndLemon · 04/06/2008 20:50

Somewhat to my surprise I have managed to stick to my resolution not to get DD weighed. So she's oficially... umm... quite heavy.

Denny185 · 04/06/2008 21:07

Evening all, I was contemplating getting Aeryn weighed tomorrow but it depends what time DH gets up as not dragging them all up the clinic.

Well had a lovely day over mums, lunch made and just spent day playing with kids, mum decided that today is was the day to start potty training. So nappy off, 3 hours of intermitantly offering potty (can't believe how long he held it) then he disappeared off behind a tree to do a wee in his pants I have a feeling it may take a while. Mum said DD1 and DS could stay there for the night so Ive been busy getting the house ready for random accidents tomorrow, ie taking rugs up, getting rest of washing done etc.

Well just have playroom left to clean and tidy b4 bed so will love you and leave you again.

Sal22 · 04/06/2008 22:01

Good evening everyone. I'll join the weighing club - had Roelof weighed this morning too. But the coolest bit was when they measured him - he's grown 10cm since birth (he was 2 months yesterday).

I went to the big scream movies this morning - saw Sex and the City. I think it was some kind of NCT get-together as well, but good grief - I didn't know there were this many moms with babies around - the whole cinema was full!

Good luck with your cold, Sagitta, and with the potty training Denny.

luckymummy74 · 04/06/2008 23:33

denny are you mad??? potty training Ethan with Aeryn still being so little???? Good grief woman, you are such a trooper.....rather you than me!!

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 07:19

Sal - our cinema doesnt do showings like that. i dont know whether to go and see SATC, soemtimes Carrie annnoys me freaking out about commitment and babies etc, i just ffs woman.....

Denny - good luck with the potty training. each time i have PT i dont go out if i can help it for the first 2 days until they notice the cues.

DH has his op tomorrow he is a bit scared but he will be fine, i have told him the anaesthetic [sp?]is fine.

Millie is snotty again, poor girl, she went to sleep at 915 last night and woke up at 440, fed but has been waking herself up with snorts and gruts since about 530. i had a weird dream about monsters and cellars and i could see through walls

Have a good day everyone, i am doing NOTHING today thankgod.

Denny185 · 05/06/2008 10:00

Sorry to hear Millie has another cold, can be the joys of having older kids can't it they just seem to keep re-infecting each other. Have a great day doing nothing.

Our cinema does do baby sessions, but the thought of going with Aeryn and DS puts me off, it's energy expelling activities all the way for us.

I wouldn't have made the desicion to potty train DS yet it was mum who started it (to be fair she does have a point Im washing over 100 nappies a week at the moment). We're not going out at the mo either coz of DD1 so kind of a good time to do it - have a feeling we may fail though we'll see.

So i have a huge pile of pants, 2 potties, no rugs and an empty washing machine anything else you can think of.

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 10:02

stickers?

bashboid · 05/06/2008 10:18

So of all the good weight gain. Had Oli weighed yesterday and he had only put on just over 11oz in two weeks (now 8lb 13 at 6 weeks). The HV then made me feel really inadequate by lecturing me on how I should make sure he stays awake during feeding, check, doing that already, and that I need to eat more or he won't be able to get enough milk. Thing is I am eating more than I ever have and seriously don't know how I can go about upping this. It's made me really paranoid that I'm not producing enough milk but if I'm leaking all over the bed during the night surely this is not the case?? He's also producing lots of dirty nappies so I'm guessing this is a sign that he's getting enough??
Anyway, will persevere and see if he manages to put more weight on over the next couple of weeks.

On a good note, he managed his longest continuous sleep last night (11 to 5) but didn't want to go back down afterwards. Finally succumbed at 7 and has been down since.

Sal22 · 05/06/2008 10:26

I never really get into the whole breast/bottle debate, but I just had to moan about this, it's made me so cross: My sil (in South Africa) recently had a baby, and she wanted to bf really, really badly (sat through cracked nipples, the lot). Anyway, she let baby sleep for 6 or 7 hours at night if she (baby) wanted to without waking her up for feeds, and both the hospital (where she was for 4 days) and the dr were "impressed" with that...! As you can expect, baby didn't pick up enough weight, and because of the missed feedings (I, with next to no knowledge, so might be wrong, think) she struggled with her supply. But here is the bit that annoys the hell out of me: The doctor said the problem was that her milk wasn't "nutricious" enough, told her to switch to bottle, and gave her pills (!!!!) to dry up her milk supply. I'm furious. I think they didn't even want to bother, and think half of their "advice" did more harm than good. While I'm perfectly fine with bottles (I mix feed myself for that matter), it annoys me that I feel they robbed her of her choice.

Sorry, rant over.

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 10:28

at giving her pills to dry it up!! Why didnt she refuse them?

BTW Mimi goes 8 hours at night and we have plenty of milk & weight gain.

Sal22 · 05/06/2008 10:34

I think she panicked about lo not picking up enough weight and when drs said it's because of her milk not being nutricious (and therefore it would never be iyswim). So as they said she had to exclusively bottle feed, they said it would be better for the milk to stop, and she trusted them.

Roelof now goes longer as well, but I just thought (incorrectly maybe) that, in those early weeks just after birth, it would help if she fed more often. Maybe R was just a guzzler, but he seemed to exhaust himself while drinking, so fed every 3 hours or so at the beginning. I didn't tell her that I thought she was doing something wrong btw, but there must be another reason I'm sure, I've never heard of milk not being "good" enough. I feel so sorry for her. Wish I've known she struggled before it all ended.

sagitta · 05/06/2008 10:36

OK, I know this isn't the place to post this, but I don't want my sil seeing on the other boards. AIBU? To think that my brother could have sent a card, or present or something to acknowledge the birth of his niece? Its not that I want stuff, I am just pissed off that he made one brief phone call the day after A was born, and I haven't heard from him since...
Or am I just being unnecessarily stroppy and touchy? People we barely know sent presents, cards, flowers...

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 10:36

i know, it sounds horrible and you trust doctors, don't you? even when/if they do say the wrong thing. I always thought milk was tailored perfectly to baby's needs?

for her. I don't know much about BF-ing sal, i just tell you what Millie does

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 10:37

Sagitta - YANBU

of course he should have sent you a card!!

MIL/FIL have never seen Millie. DH has disowned her! (brewing for a long time though)

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 10:39

and Sal - Mimi was born 8lb 9oz and went down to 7lb 14oz in the first week, so it may have just been that natural birth weight loss anyway, millie's was alot and so might her baby's loss have been. Mimi soon packed it on though!

  • she is growing out of her first size clothes [broody] [broody]
scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 10:43

WHERE is EllieG? Does anyone (Peachy?) have her phone number? or email/home address?

sagitta · 05/06/2008 10:44

Scorpio - can't believe you're feeling broody!

Any good ideas on how to stop a baby crying without feeding her while you spend time on MN?

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 10:45

lie them on your knees tummy down.

i am soooo broody and am forcing myself to go on the pill in 2 weeks. it doesnt help DH hates condoms and i just don't care....

sagitta · 05/06/2008 10:47

blimey scorpio - what a great trick. Thanks!

I've never felt broody, can't imagine what its like!
