urgh, a little

Denny185 · 15/05/2008 20:15

Screaming babies r really hard work Sal, DD1 was a nightmare pretty much screamed whenever she was awake. Our saving grace (discovered quite late on) was a battery operated swing which was used at her worst screaming times and lots of walking either in the buggy or sling. Other time she used to be in the sling a lot ie to do ironing or cook dinner. Im glad DH helping once he's home so u can get a bit of a break.

I took Aeryn into work today for lunch - amazing how everyone comes out to see a new baby. Dropped in at baby clinic on the way home (12lb 1 - chuffer) which was manic, discovered its breast feeding awareness week so lots of NCT and extra health visitors there, got collered to have picture taken for the local paper as I was the only breast feeding mum in the room. Dashed back just in time to make toddler group prior to school run.
During this time DH at home alone, thought he may have done a few jobs round the house but got in to find him sat playing bloody computer games and the house as left When asked if hed managed to put the washing on the line - answered 'you didnt ask me to', FFS he watched me load the bloody thing b4 rushing out. It amazes me that they are unable to see mess/dust/dirty washing etc etc.

scorpio1 · 15/05/2008 21:06

Sal - try a vibrating baby chair. wonderful! or some gripe water? i have never used this but friends have and swear by it.

I BF in a cafe today for first time. was so funny woman waitress comes up and peers at Mimi 'ooh lovely baby etc' and then realised she was feeding and said how sorry she was, lol! i didnt mind and felt v proud i did it in public and open iyswim. this isnt the first time i have in public but first time in cafe.

Sal22 · 15/05/2008 21:25

Thanks for all the tips and support! I've been using Infacol, but not sure how much difference it makes. I continue using it anyway, just in case. He's actually been ok today, such a relief. However, I'm going to look for either vibrating baby chair or swing online now, as I'm sure that'll help, because when crying movement seems to help a bit. And either way, even if not crying, I'm sure that's something he'd love and will leave my hands free for a bit while he's not sleeping.

Scorpio, I might follow your lead and try breastfeeding in a cafe tomorrow. I have given him a sip in a cafe before, but only enough really to stop him crying and then packed up and went home for "proper feeding". No-one's ever been funny at all, I just worry that I'm doing it "wrong" as I don't know exactly what's the done thing. There's a "breastfeeding lunch" at the children's centre every Friday where breastfeeding moms can get together and get lunch (and obviously breastfeed if required). Maybe I should do that tomorrow and then go from there, would break the ice a bit. Also have my 6-weeks check and Rubella injection tomorrow, so busy day compared to the last 2 days when i didn't actually leave the house at all. I strangely look forward to it

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 15/05/2008 21:42

with screaming bf babies it can be worth looking at what you're eating- grapes are a classic, and you might even try one day (only, if no result get back on it!) of milk free to see if an effect, tea and coffee worth a consideration too- and HV (but we all know what she's like lol) says she has come across babies upset by sparkling water.

Woollymummy · 15/05/2008 22:03

Robin seems so much happier sleeping on his side too, I guess the upper arm sort of cuddles him as he is settling into sleep. He has been feeding so well, though I got a horrible touch of mastitis yesterday, sudden fever and chills, pumped a bit of milk out, found the blockage and then went to bed for a few hours, mum is here to look after DD so I could escape into sleep - woke up with fever gone! It was so quick! Hope the that is the last of it.....

luckymummy74 · 16/05/2008 10:08

sal22 Have you tried the Dr Browns bottles if your baby has a windy problem? They ar emore expensive but we used them and found them fab, and everyone I know who's used them has had no probs with Colic etc.

Sorry, I have only skim read the posts, I'm guessing it's a colic/wind problem???

denny at Mr Denny for not using his initiative!!! Mrs B threatened Mr B with marriage guidance counselling cos she was so fed up of him not contributing to housework and apparently it scared the shit out of him and he's a changed man???!! (E&A)

Mollyfloss · 16/05/2008 10:26

Hi ladies,

I've been lurking the last couple of days but haven't had the chance to post in a while. It's easy to read my computer while bf but not always easy to type although I'm managing it now. . I've done BF quite a few times in public and am quit proud of myself every time. I do my best to cover up with a muslin but tbh at this stage I couldn't care less if my boobs are flashed.

luckymummy74 · 16/05/2008 10:37

denny Forgot to tell you that one of the May ladies suggested, by way of an escape from the party later, that I pop over to a friend's for a bit, and I quote "I'm sure Denny would have you over to her house for half an hour or so?". LOL! I had to explain that you live a 3 hr drive away. Then I thought, actually, that's not a bad idea....

Me to DH's family: "um, lovely of you all to come over, I'm just popping to see a friend, I'll be about 8 hours ".

I wish!

Can't believe I'll see you soon though!!!! Yippee!

Sal22 · 16/05/2008 16:13

luckymummy - haven't tried dr brown's, but have bought one breastflow bottle on a mn recommendation, and it definitely reduced the amount of wind. might try dr browns too. the doctor recommended medela special needs bottle, but i can only find it online - have been looking in shops.

i had my 6-weeks checkup today. doctor said ds has mild reflux, so i'll start giving him gaviscon from today, hopefully that'll help the poor thing. he also has a little thrush in his mouth for which i've got some drops. what confuses me it that she said i don't need anything. i thought you "infect" eachother - is this right? i can't remember who's baby had thrush before, but how were you treated?

all in all i had a lovely day. baby didn't really cry, so i'm hoping he feels better. obviously a little traveller, as as soon as we start walking in his buggy he's fast asleep! we also went to a "big scream" movie, so all these moms there and i could breastfeed openly. was lovely and so relaxing. i know you can (or should be able to) everywhere anyway, but was an easy way to start.

Denny185 · 16/05/2008 19:53

Glad things have picked up Sal and he's a bit happier, hopefully the treatment will have him in tip top condition and hell be a v happy chappie. It was VS and Scorpio that had thrush B4 and from what i can remember both of them were treated, think you can use an over the counter cream for you, if gp hasnt prescribed anything maybe speak to your friendly pharmacist.

VictorianSqualor · 16/05/2008 20:01

You do need treating, he is a muppet, but then many are when it comes to thrush, get some fluconazole over-the-couter and some daktarin oral gel, take the tablet incase it is in your breats and cover your nipple and his mouth with daktarin after every feed.

Denny, was your DH already in the police force when you met or did he join after? DP is getting paranoid as peopel keep telling him the force changes people and causes relationships to end, basically everyone he speaks to says him joining will split us up

OP posts:
Sal22 · 16/05/2008 20:47

thanks, thought it sounded strange. i'll be off to the chemist's first thing in the morning.

and oh, what rubbish vs - people generalise way too much for their own good! i used to work at a brokerage firm, and yes, most of the guys were, well, i wouldn't want to be married to them. but then, at the same time, some of the guys there were the best husbands / partners in the world and you could just tell how much they loved their families within 10 minutes of talking to them. but it is quite sweet of him to be worried about it

Denny185 · 16/05/2008 20:53

No we met at uni and he did a few different things (predominently desk orientated - which didnt suit him) before he joined the police. Think we must have been together 4 or 5 years before. They do say they is a high divorce rate in people marride to shift workers, I think it probably depends on how much you need to have someone around IYSWIM. I personally quite like him being on lates as i like my own company, if he's here too many evenings he does my head in. You sound like quite a strong person who will cope with him not being there for 3 or 4 evenings so im sure you'll be fine.
DH does come home with some stories of dodgy goings on but again joining the force isnt going to suddenly cause someone to be unfaithful, if they have morals and believe in monogomy then shouldnt matter where they work (DH also knows he wouldnt be having sex with anyone ever again if he was unfaithful - maybe that helps )
So overall in my experience we would be more likely to have problems if DH did a 9-5 job and was around all the time.

VictorianSqualor · 16/05/2008 20:58

He wouldn't dare be unfaithful , I think he is more worried I would! A girl he works with is the office bike behind her DH (police officer) back and she was telling DP how she doesnt know him anymore, he has changed completely etc, so I think that's his worry.

OP posts:
PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 16/05/2008 22:10

Shifts do take some getting used to (Dh ahs been on permanent nights for years now), but you can adjust easily ewnough. As for being unfaithful- like you say its choice, DH's workplace was exposed as having a girl running a shag-for-a-tenner deal in the warehouse , he just ignored it. The good ones are stickers.

Denny185 · 17/05/2008 08:25

How can he think youve got time to be unfaithful with 3 kids and all that comes with them

Aeryn has now developed a cough to go with her cold, so last night ended up being quite a long one, good old nasal drip triggered many coughing episodes. Poor love is knackered now, sleeping on my shoulder. Thankfully she seems to have fed better this am, last couple of days difficult coz of stuffy nose so not finishing feeds so had to express to stop engorment. Hopefully wont have to today, find it such a faff. On the plus side have enough in the fridge to leave her with DH later to take the other 2 to a party.

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 17/05/2008 09:04

denny have you tried those nasal aspirators in mothercare? we have a bulbed one (didnt fancy tyhe tube for sucking out the bogey!), MW said was fine if you follow instructions and its helped loads when Bas has had a cold.

Denny185 · 17/05/2008 10:15

No I did look at them whilst stocking up on baby products (pre-arrival)and currently wishing id got one. We have a small boots in town that sells v little so aspirators not on their list. Nearest mothercare 30 min drive away, might get DH to go later though (in bed at mo as on nights) dont fancy dragging everyone there. Ive been using saline drops which do seem to be helping to keep everything moist so shes sneezing them out during the day just seems to get progressively worse during the night.
The old wives tale is 3 days in and 3 days out for a cold, were day 4 so must be going past the worst of it. (denny keeps fingers crossed and hopes)

luckymummy74 · 17/05/2008 12:18

denny we had one of those snot buster things for DD1 and found it very good.

VS My DH is a shift worker too, in the ambo service (also quite incestuous believe it or not!!...the ambo service, not my DH). I have also heard that it can put a strain on your marriage, there are a lot of affairs going on where he works. I agree with Denny, it's if people don't accept the whole shift thing is just different. I love him being a shift worker, he's around so much more in the day for childcare and housework (yes, I am v lucky, hence name) but I get my 'me-time' when he is on nights.
I think if you have a strong relationship already, you'll be fine. I have known Denny and Mr Denny for 15 years (lived with denny for 3 years at uni and we all lived together for two years after uni), and there is no way he would cheat on her. They are a very solid couple .

Denny185 · 17/05/2008 12:49

Ahhh thankyou luckymummy (incase you lot hadnt guessed goodcatholicgirl previously)

VictorianSqualor · 17/05/2008 14:20

TBH, I think I'll love the shift work, there are times I would relish having a bath and a sob at crappy tv with wine and chocolate and no -one else around and I can't see him becoming any more hardline politically than he already is, if anything I'd imagine he'd realise it's not all as black and white as he sometimes seems to think, but then, he is only young

Just bought Alexthis coat from woolies, it's a million times nicer in the flesh and perfectly light enough to wear in this everchanging weather.
