PFJ - I am in awe of you. I was sitting here thinking how on earth I am going to cope when I read your story and made me realise how lucky and easy I have it - and now I feel bad. Poor you and poor, poor little Jack. What a rough time he has had (and same for you) - I so hope and pray he starts to get better now and stays that way. I hope the whole finding a new home comes easy - although we all know moving isn't fun at the best of times, never mind now.

HV came around today - little missy is now 9lb 8oz - up by 7oz since last Thursday! She likes her food - that's for sure! Sleeping is no better really - she is going down a little earlier (9pm-ish) but now wakes up in the wee hours for an hour or more at a time after feeding. Agggg!! Man I miss my sleep!!

For all those FF pros - can you feed a baby with the bottle when she is lying down, or do they always have to be up and in posistion? And is gripe water any different to infacol? Oh and is it bad for a baby to sleep propped up? Whenever mine is propped up, she seems to sleep better, but as I am unsure, this is a rare occurance! Probably shold have asked the HV all these questions, my brain was a little befuddled this am from lack of sleep!

eggandketchup · 28/05/2008 15:50

OOpppps......

went to change nappy and found that i hadnt put a nappy on from the previous change. Not done that before, head must be on a different world to do that.

Had to give J a bath hehe

I'm a 36DD and feel huge compared to my normal size which is a 32C.I've got clevage for the first time ever and bf hp and hopes that they won't shrink too much when finish bf J.

scorpio1 · 28/05/2008 15:54

im a 32c now up from an a!!

FF - feed sitting up. millie has been sleeping tilted up cos she has a cold.

scorpio1 · 28/05/2008 15:55

gripe water is diff and better

soz 1 hand typing

VictorianSqualor · 28/05/2008 15:58

Sleeping tilted up is fine, it is because any mucus in their nose when laying flat dribbles down the back of their throat, this doesn't happen if they are tilted.

I would imagine you could FF whilst laying down, but baby would be more likely to get windy as they would take more air in, just make sure when you feed the teat is completely full of milk, not air.

scorpio1 · 28/05/2008 16:02

Mum2BabyRoo · 28/05/2008 16:49

Thanks ladies - knew I could count on you for answers.

And as well as where is Ellie, where is Aussiediva? Hope they are both okay...

Sal22 · 28/05/2008 17:32

how to calm crying babies - found some of these quite good and thought someone might like to read.

M2B - these are kellymom's tips on mixed feeding - there's some info on bottlefeeding there that helped me.

Mum2BabyRoo · 28/05/2008 17:49

Thanks Sal - that was interesting reading

moominsmummy · 28/05/2008 19:24

hello all

PFJ - how nice to hear from you was wondering how you were all getting on - hope things get better for you all really soon ((hugs))

can I just check if anyone else is getting night sweats? after 3 weeks of them it has onlyjust occurred to me that it's probably due to hormones! am waking up several times a night totally soaked and then get freezing cold - have to change nightie/t-shirt several times a night. any tips on how to minimise it?

anyone's LO suffering from rashes? (apart from PFJ's little Jack) - saw a dr the other day about it who said is just newborn rash but it's all over James' face, in his ear and around his neck and uppper chest - it's bright red with loads of tiny white fluid filled spots - it must be REALLY uncomfortable for the poor lad but dr said not to worry....

scorpio1 · 28/05/2008 19:39

Millie is like that in her neck and top of chest, tis normal, really dont worry

DH is a bumhole. Fact.

Sal22 · 28/05/2008 19:48

lol scorpio, now I'm dying to hear the rest of the story.

Roelof had the rash too, doctor said it's baby acne from mom's hormones and harmless, and apparently not painful / irritating to baby (I always wonder which 6-week old confirmed that, but hey). His went away after a week or so, now it's just a little "rough" skin on his cheeks - the bits in his neck and ears went away completely, and it's not red and fluid filled anymore.

Oh, and I only had the night sweats in those first couple of weeks - completely soaked my clothes, urgh. Now back to normal though.

velbels · 28/05/2008 20:40

hi everyone i have finally managed to get time to catch up on mn.
Samuel is generally good but doesn't like sleeping in the day which is tiring when he is on the go or crying all the time.
found out today that the reason i am still cracked and he feed for an hour on average is that he has a tongue tie. hoping to see the consultant tom which would be good as i really don't want to give up.
been great to hear how everyone else is, keep up the good work ;)

VictorianSqualor · 28/05/2008 21:08

Really great that the tongue-tie has been diagnosed.
Sounds crap, but thank goodness you know now eh?
They'll snip it and hopefully it'll all fix pretty quickly from what I've heard it often goes undiagnosed.

Mum2BabyRoo · 28/05/2008 21:47

Gabriella also has a little baby acne - nothing bad though and I'm happy as it is harmless. hee hee - I suffered from a few persistent spots during my pregnancy and it seemed that as soon as I gave birth, they went away - now I know where - baby got them!!

Yes - suffering from night sweats - really gross! Can't wait to get back to normal!

Sal22 · 28/05/2008 23:29

Well, from tomorrow I might not be able to post for a couple of days/weeks when my MIL is here (as I have to hide this new addiction ;-) ). Might try and sneak in and read in the evenings, but no more leasuirely bf'ing with laptop next to me... So bye for now, will miss you

Denny185 · 29/05/2008 08:39

Morning all, will miss u Sal - when do you sleep woman your always on here

Scorpio we're waiting (not very patiently) for an extension of the bum hole story.

Aeryn has lots of spots, so do I at the minute , not worried about hers as they will settle down, mine on the other hand I think i might need to do something about

BF laying down, Im lazy enough to feed laying down but find it really awkward to do, dosent seem to matter how I get myself the latch is never quite right. I still do it just end up with a bit more of a burpy baby after.

eggandketchup · 29/05/2008 09:28

Morning all,

After all the great info that i was given yesterday i went ahead and used them all just to shake things up for myself and J. Wanted to see if a radical change in the nite routine would help at all.

I decided that J would sleep with me in the bed and not in the moses basket by the side so i wouldn't have to move her about after a feed. I took her up and got us both ready for bed, we botrh lay down and i tried to feed her lying down which i succeeded in doing after a few false starts and she fed for a good 3/4hr+ and fell naturally to sleep.

It was great..... she didn't start to stir properly for at least 4 hrs YIPPEE!!!! and again gave her a feed lying down for another 1/2hr and again it was about 3 hrs before she stirred to feed again. I only fed her twice last nite which is a first for me. She woke up at 7:30 this morning which also is later than normal...I feel human again....

Also didn't change her nappy through the nite.

Thanx for the great advice all, am hoping that this is a new beginning to better nites for us both.

Just one thing happened which i found funny... When i woke up to feed her the first time we had both turned 90 degrees on the bed . Any thoughts on that one.

scorpio1 · 29/05/2008 10:01

So pleased for you, you sound very pleased too!!

Well its not that exciting, the bumhole story. I have 4 kids here all week this week, dh obv at work. he came yesterday, did dishes as normal, etc. When kids went to bed he just sat down, even though mimi was stirring and i needed a shower. i had already got up 50 frigging times to tell Z to get in his bloody bed. anyway i had a shower and when i got out he was playing ps3, i said can i watch telly. he practically growled at me and was very snappy and rude - i had seriously doen nothing. Then he ignores me for the next hour what a fucking child. He then went out fishing (pre-arranged), but before he went out he gave me a hug (jeez, thanks!!). i dont know when he got in, we were asleep. he finally worked out at 4am when mimi woke up that yes he was an ass (putting it lightly) and he went in the front room to sleep becuase 'i need to get back to sleep i have work tomorrow'. 'oh do you' says i 'diddums. it must be hard'

then at 630 before work he comes in and says he is very sorry and doesnt want to lose me after how i told him in the night i am sick of it. he is often rude to me and has to be told lots about the way he is talking to me. I just felt yesterday after having 4 kids all day, BFing in the night etc that it would be great for an adult to give me 10 mins of care and peace last night. you know what i mean?

i think he is waiting for me to text him today as he knows it wont be worth him doing it first . i was so angry last night though, i rarely get angry just annoyed iyswim.

Its fine though, nothing bad or horrendous, just another attack of the 25 year old child.

scorpio1 · 29/05/2008 10:15

well he rang me and i told him off think he is suitably bollocked.

he is still a bumhole unless proved otherwise.

Piccalilli2 · 29/05/2008 10:16

scorpio, if it's any consolation my dh is being an arse too, he seems to think the fact that only I can feed zoe absolves him of all responsibility to even wake up in the night, so i end up doing everything. As she has a bad cold all she really wanted several times last night was a cuddle - would be nice if he could take his turn occasionally, i'm knackered.

scorpio1 · 29/05/2008 10:18

i know what you mean - though when millie woke up when she was snotty i told him to get up. i get that too, it takes some gentle persuasion.....

Piccalilli2 · 29/05/2008 10:23

any top tips on how to deal with snotty baby? i'm going to try propping up her mattress at one end tonight

scorpio1 · 29/05/2008 10:24

propped matress and saline drops. we also put vaporub on a sock and put it about 2 feet away from her basket so the smell was in the room iyswim.
