Denny185 · 22/05/2008 08:33

Too true, at least only have to get ready for the school run, not get the kids ready then rush off to work.

Sheds75 · 22/05/2008 08:36

no just the housework to do and try and get Henry to have a nap, not that easy, I wish someone would try and make me sleep.....

Denny185 · 22/05/2008 08:37

I remember when DD1 had colic I found it v difficult to sleep as I kept expecting her to wake up.

Sheds75 · 22/05/2008 08:53

that sounds familiar. Then when he is asleep he riggles around in discomfort all night. Ah well hopefully only a few more weeks of it!

Piccalilli2 · 22/05/2008 09:05

Hello all, just checking in. Zoe is 1 month old today, doing well but feeding constantly. My nipples are really badly split and bleeding so it's incredibly painful but she won't take a bottle so all my attempts to quit breastfeeding are being thwarted! anyone got ant tips for how i can get them to heal? Latch is fine now.

Zoe is a very easy baby apart from the constant feeding but i'm finding it very hard going with two of them - poor dd1 gets no attention as i'm feeding all the time. I must be a crap parent, everyone else seems to be coping much better than me.

Denny185 · 22/05/2008 10:16

can u rub some of your milk on them and allow to air after each feed.

use one of the nipple creams (lansinoh or camilosan etc) not sure why but all over wounds you allow to dry out but for some reason nipples heal better when kept moist.(Im sure someone with the knowledge will tell us)

Piccalilli2 · 22/05/2008 10:23

I've got through half a tube of lansinoh already and did spend most of yesterday topless although had to get dressed occasionally so as not to scare the postman/health visitor.

Denny185 · 22/05/2008 10:35

LOL, think they might have enjoyed it, , sorry i cant think of any other ways of getting them to heal. Is arnica just for bruising or is that for healing in general?

VictorianSqualor · 22/05/2008 11:52

Piccallili, Denny is right about the breastmilk, because it has magical qualities antibodies in it it's great to put on things that need to heal, other than that can you feed from one breast at a time to allow the other to have longer to heal?
Or use a breast shield?

Well done for persevering with that pain!

DP got his phone call from TVP today, he has his provisional offer of appointment for 4th August, needless to say he's really happy

Alex had a bad night last night was awake every hour or so and really anxious, I think he had a bellyache because about 5am I spent ages trying to wind him (he was curling his legs up to his tummy and complaining), he bought a bit of wind up but not much and then spent the next hour pooing! I must have changed his nappy 4x in half an hour, and he even went through and over his clothes, plus was really red in the face when he was trying to do it, poor soul.

I also think I've possibly done myself some damage, I'm such a numpty. Yesterday evening I moved the freezer out of the larder not thinking about my scar and now I'm in pain, about as much as I was two weeks after the CS so it seems I may have pulled something. I'm going to see if it stops hurting in the next 24hours if not I'll be having to pop along to the docs. How can they tell if I've done anything internally though?

VictorianSqualor · 22/05/2008 11:53

Meant to add, glad you had a nice birthday yesterday Denny

OP posts:
Sal22 · 22/05/2008 12:03

"so all my attempts to quit breastfeeding are being thwarted" - lol. hope you heal soon, Piccallili.

VS, hope it's nothing serious. The doctor warned me not to lift anything heavy soon, but he said that if I did, I might bruise internally. He said it would feel as if the wound/stitches tore/opened, but that it would most likely only be bruising (yet no less painful). It's worth seeing a doctor just in case I guess, but hopefully it's just the muscles or something that got hurt and that you'll feel better soon. I wonder if it would help healing if you take arnica again?

Hope everyone else is having a great morning.

TheMaskedPoster · 22/05/2008 12:13

Afternoon ladies, hope all are well.

Livi had her 8 week check today with the doctor (all ok) and has her first lot of injections this afternoon . I made DH take DD1 for hers the first time around - but this time I have to fly solo (apparently I'll be fine - big meanie!).

Bit sad today - just got a call from my Dad in NZ to say that my Nana has passed away. I was expecting the call as she has been in hospital for a week or so after a bad fall - but still when the call comes it isn't nice. She had a good innings though - a month off turning 95! She was a good old stick was Nana. So hard being so far away from home sometimes .

Anyway - enough of that - hope everyone ok - will catch up properly one day I promise. x

VictorianSqualor · 22/05/2008 12:17

TMP, Can't remember if you're BFing or bottle feeding, if you're BFing (and a little tip for anyone else reading) take baby to jabs hungry, feed whilst they have their jabs, they hardly make a sound.
My HV told me with DS1 to have him latched on would mean he made less fuss and I thought she was talking utter tosh, I was rather pleased it worked!

OP posts:
TheMaskedPoster · 22/05/2008 13:29

Thanks VS - I am BF-ing. I have just fed Olivia - but will pop her back on the breast for the injections ... hopefully it will work.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 22/05/2008 14:47

tmp, sorry for your Nan

Bas just had his first posh trip out lol! for some bizarreson out pta holds its meetings here at the celtic manor (posh enough for catherine zeta jones and family), strangest place i have fed yet!

Sheds75 · 22/05/2008 14:53

what a great day..............

hope everyone is enjoying the weather?

Sheds75 · 22/05/2008 14:55

TMP sorry about your Nan, that certainly was a good innings, my nan is about the same age and they are a great part or our lives.

Sal22 · 22/05/2008 15:26

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, TMP. Hope the injections went ok.

Lovely weather - worked in the garden a bit earlier, but that was about it. LO sleeping peacefully - bliss!

Denny185 · 22/05/2008 16:26

TMP sorry about your nan, hope injections went ok this afternoon.

Blimey Peachy do your boys go to a very posh school or is the chairman of the PTA the hotel manager?

VS hope Alex is feeling better today and that you have a better night tonight.

Weve done diddly squat today and it was lovely, just some housework, playing with DS and of course feeding DD2. Makes a change not to be dashing off to different toddler groups and stuff. DH is on lates tonight so just enjoying the calm before the storm that is tea/bath/bed time.

Scampmum · 22/05/2008 18:14

Hello all - sorry to hear about your nan TMP, hope scar is OK VS and big congrats to DP (and Alex's inadvertent godfather!)

We are having a tough week - DD1 has a streaming cold, DD2 has a rash on her face and has turned into a proper screamer - will not sleep anywhere except in a sling (just like her sister!) and sometimes still screams in that. Still having problems sleeping past 2.30am, too - yawn. DH out tonight so once I've got over teatime/bathtime/bedtime I think I'll hit the sack around 8 - got my baked potatoes in the oven already (hmm note plural - is THAT why the weight isn't shifting?). It's very draining and DD1's nursery mornings are a lifeline. Definitely feels easier than last time, though. Such deja vu having to bite the bullet and put DD2 screaming in the carseat so I could have my first shower since Monday this morning, though . Have mastered the art of teeth-cleaning whilst holding baby but can't see how showering would work...

In the spirit of breastmilk's magical qualities am about to put it all over DD2's face - Dad has sent some fucidin which is arriving tomorrow (it was just baby spots but has now developed a kind of crust) but thought this couldn't do any harm in meantime. Was also contemplating expressing a cup for DD1 to help with her cold - that's not weird, right?

Scampmum · 22/05/2008 18:15

ps Denny, impressed at you doing housework. I was a domestic goddess on Monday but turns out that was the exception and a hovel is the rule.

Denny185 · 22/05/2008 19:06

I have an unfortunate OCD gene, whereby even if DH does some housework I have to re-do it as he dosent do it properly

Well Ive done it the first evening without DH and its gone pretty smoothly [feeling v smug] All fed and bathed, DD2 in bed and DS and DD1 having milk and play for half hour till they go up. The only thing is - I feel absolutely knackered now and still have to eat myself and tidy the kitchen. I feel another early night coming on.

Scamp hope DD2's rash goes with the cream, Im sure breast milk wont do it any harm, and as for giving it to DD1, plenty of people extend feed and its no problem so dont see why you shouldnt give it if she'll drink it.

sagitta · 22/05/2008 20:14

HI all,

sorry about your nan, TMP -I was living abroad when my grandad died - it does make it harder...

And sorry about your rashes and woes, Scamp - and I do empathise with your shower difficulty...
So far dd1 is being pretty good, but its hard to stop her from smothering the baby (with love, rather than malicious intent).
DH is going away for the night tomorrow, so I've got the nursery run - with no car - , bedtime and Saturday morning all on my own - I am a bit scared, to be honest.

I had a terrible night last night of continuous screaming, and found myself reaching for my sister's Contented Baby book. A is not even two weeks old yet, and I am going to try to gently prod her into some sort of routine. Is that wrong? But to be honest, its that or me going over the edge...

scorpio1 · 22/05/2008 20:38

Hi All, sorry to hear that some of you are having a otugh time at mo

Sagitta - up to you about routine, me personally i just follow Mimi's lead, but she happens to have a fab natural routine iyswim.

Scamp - i think its fine to give dd1 BM if she wants it

VS - Be more careful!! [stern face]

How is Ellie does anyone know? I hope she is ok, anyone have her phone number or email?

We are fine here, not much to report. I bought mimi a lovely dress today from New Look for £6, a bit like a tea dress. She is soooooo beautiful!

TheMaskedPoster · 23/05/2008 09:02

Good morning - thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and wishes, it means a lot.

Well - Olivia had her injections yesterday and cried (Nursey said it was better to wait until after the injections for BF-ing for comfort as an injection was needed in both legs ... however - next time I am going to go against her and make her do them around me BF-ing if poss as I do think it would have been easier). She was fine straight afterwards though - had a bit of discomfort yesterday evening from her legs I think, so we gave her a bit of Calpol. Same thing again in 4 weeks time though and then in 8 weeks it's 3 injections! poor blighters!

That's all really - hope all are well. Oh and Livi slept the best ever last night with me waking her for a feed at 2am and 4.40am (after last feed at 8.15pm) as I was worried re the injections yesterday! Let's see if she is just as good tonight.
