HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 11:12

I am going to mothercare tonight - got a big one near me - and going to try putting buggies in the boot.

I just wondered if people liked them.

HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 11:15

downsizing does feel good... but will cost more at first as we will lose money, but longer term we should save a bit

FairyFay · 04/02/2008 11:18

I do really like my p&t and it is good offroad. It folds doen smallish but not tiny. Definitely best to try it in the car. That said, if I only have DS to push then i use my small McLaren. A P&T is good option though if you are thinking of 2 DCs quite close together....

foxythesnowman · 04/02/2008 11:23

They are very popular around here. But then, most of the yummies round here drive 4x4.

So, tell us your downsizing plan! Am interested. Mine has so far involved: looking in the freezer, which is chocca with nothing I really want to eat and ordering an Abel and Cole box this week instead of my £100 Sainsburys delivery.

Did you see Wifeswap last night? Family living on a boat in Spain. Hippy but happy.

FairyFay · 04/02/2008 11:28

I'm trying to only do a big shop every 2 weeks instead of weekly. I also want to use up some of my freezer stock and just buy bread, milk and veg on the week when I don't do the big shop.

I'm also trying to de-clutter and am aiming to throw away/charity shop/ebay as much of our junk as possible. I'm trying to go with the 'if we haven't used it/worn it in the last 2 years then we don't need it' idea. I'm finding it really quite hard - but I desperately want to have a less cluttered house, so I'm going to keep going.

FairyFay · 04/02/2008 11:29

I saw the beginning of wife swap last night. It looked interesting but I think killing my own chickens and not using detergents might be a step too far!

HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 11:34

thanks FF!
I do need feedback...
I need a good offroader that folds small. The fact it takes 2 is a bonus

FairyFay · 04/02/2008 11:38

If you do get one then just buy the single, and then you can buy the 'doubles kit' (ie the second seat) when you need it.

HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 11:38

hmmm - we are selling the 4x4 and replacing with a fiesta.
Selling all the prams except the one that I am likely to use. Will probably end up getting a volo for holidays though.

Have sold Stereo, selling bike, have sold all our DVD's, Videos, books, clothes, random junk.
Sold all our scuba gear, sold my model horses from when I was little, underwater camera gear, cameras, everything is going.

But atm we have 2 massive cars and 2 massive prams. I see no point. cumbersome and costs too much.

I bulk buy meat and freeze it so my weekly shop is only ever bread, milk, veg anyway.

FairyFay · 04/02/2008 11:39

Right, a quick tidy up and then nursery run for me - where do those 3 hours go???? Back later

HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 11:40

kiddicare have an offer - pram and doubles kit and a free travel cot (which I don't need but can sell ) for £355

milkyJammy · 04/02/2008 12:22

Hi!

All going OK so far Am quite enjoying myself

We have a P&T and it's great. Downsides are that it's fairly heavy, and I wouldn't say it folds that small, thought the front wheel comes off v.easily which helps. If you wanted to try fitting one in your boot Fury, get in touch.

LittleMissNorty · 04/02/2008 12:24

Glad its going well Jammy - enjoy the cat and child free lunch break ....expect C is having a great time too....

milkyJammy · 04/02/2008 12:25

Oh and yes it is delightful to be able to go to the loo, have a drink, have a sandwich, or whatever in peace

See you all later though, gotta go...

LardyMardyDaisy · 04/02/2008 12:31

norty, I hope you aren't in too much pain...poor you

jammy, i hope you are enjoying your 1st day back at work.

belated birthday wishes for sputnik and trace's dh

thanks for all the birthday wishes. i had a fab day, M&B group, than my friend came back here and hung out as she was having work done on her house and her poor 7wo baby was traumatised by the noise, then we dropped my car in for its mot and went for coffee, back home, blitzed the living room and kitchen then off out for a lovely dinner. only downside was the bloody car failed it's mot so i'm vehicleless till tomorrow when they can get the part.

had a very busy weekend, but got lots done in the house so feeling v smug.

took babyboo out for her 1st curry last night. she demolished loads of naan bread and some chicken korma and rice and just sat iun the highchair shouting at everyone.

typing one handed as i tried to slice the top of my finger off earlier...it bloody hurts.

saturday went to pilates as part of my birthday resolutions to get into some sort po

HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 12:45

hi foxy poor you and lo hope you feel better soon bit grim all these colds around at the mo

LardyMardyDaisy · 04/02/2008 13:03

anyone fancy a (free) new dyson??

FairyFay · 04/02/2008 13:34

Hello everyone, I'm back . I have signed up for the Dyson trial, I love dysons - thanks for the tip Daisy

Andiem, I will do my best to avoid selling Dh or Ds. Now DD, she is a different matter - how many bids do you think I'd realistically get for a know-it-all, stroppy, slightly grubby 2.5 year old.....

LardyMardyDaisy · 04/02/2008 14:10

fury, I used to have a fiesta and my McLaren Techno xt fitted in just fine, with room for some shopping. Not sure the XLR would though as it seems a bit bigger than the XT.

I've just written to work about extending my ML by taking all my accrued holidays in one lump (should be 5 weeks in all!). I wait their answer with bated breath. Next I need to tackle the part-time issue with them

HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 14:14

Hey Daisy
I have a fiesta on hire, the maclaren will not fit for love nor money (at least not in the newer model fiestas).

the width of the boot is 100cm, the lenth of the pram is 105cm... but hell I tried

Good luck with the holiday thing!

LardyMardyDaisy · 04/02/2008 14:19

ah, mine was an older one (the shape before this one). I suppose that is the downside of cars getting filled with side impact airbags etc etc.....outside the same, but inside much smaller!

what about something like the previous shape honda civic? (or have you already bought a fiesta?) I have one and the boot is a fair old size (techno xlr plus £100 supermarket shop no problems). It does around 50 mpg as well over a mix of town and motorway driving, but can get 55mpg on motorway if canny!

FairyFay · 04/02/2008 14:21

tbh Fury, if the Maclaren doesn't fit then I doubt the p&t will, but it's worth a try as the wheels do all detach quite easily.

Right, if you see me again before 7pm pls tell me to bugger off as I am supposed to be doing productive things today

HellHathNoFury · 04/02/2008 14:24

I shall go to mothercare tonight and try out a few!
If none of them fit very well... then DH will have to consider getting a different car.
bleeding life overhauls and revamps.

LardyMardyDaisy · 04/02/2008 14:25

bad mummy alert.....babyboo was scuttlin around on te floor earlier whilst I emptied the washing machine. She went quiet so I looked up and she was tucking into the cat nibbles with gusto . I fished two out of her mouth and I think she may have swallowed one. Her breath smelled of fish for ages

foxy, hope the colds arent' too bad in your house.

DS has discovered "you've been framed" as well; obviously a 5/6 year old developmental thing.....learning to appreciate that cats falling in toilets and blokes injuring their delicates in a variety of unlikely situations is funny
