Would anyone like to join as I can't find a thread for the January babies. DS is a few days old born early via emcs but we're doing well. This is our second.

Currently surviving the night feeds by keeping the Jaffa cake production in business and the odd daytime nap.

LucaFritz · 22/01/2020 04:34

Congratulations Flowers mine is still cooking (39 weeks) would love to join once he makes his appearance hopefully by next Wednesday!

muddypuddlejumping · 22/01/2020 04:58

Oh definitely! I'm so relieved to not be pregnant anymore but it's so exciting knowing it's all to come. Are you all prepared?

OP posts:
LucaFritz · 22/01/2020 05:27

I couldn't be more prepared if i tried 😂 i just want him out now so i can have my body back to myself! The next hard part will be establishing breastfeeding i envision many sleepless nights ahead with that...only reason im awake at this time is because my sleeping pattern is backwards

OccasionalNachos · 22/01/2020 05:36

Congratulations @muddypuddlejumping! I am also due a January 2020 baby but still cooking too. Midwife appt later today where we will be discussing options.

Glad you’re coping by mainlining Jaffa cakes. I have hidden a tin of Xmas shortbread in my bedside cabinet that I hope will see me though some night feeds!

Bluebutterfly90 · 22/01/2020 15:40

I was waiting for a thread for this to pop up!
My little man was born on the 8th Jan after an induction on the 7th. He's our first.
Just had my health visitor come and see us today, and I'm lucky that she was very nice- I'd heard some horror stories about HVs!

muddypuddlejumping · 22/01/2020 15:49

Welcome @OccasionalNachos I was actually due 31.1 so was a few weeks early but I'm fine with that as he's perfect! It meant I avoided induction on my due date too. They were originally pushing an induction at 39 weeks. We had a shop delivered today that I believe is 70% snacks 😂.

@Bluebutterfly90 congratulations!
Glad you've got a good HV. I met mine for an antenatal appointment and she was also lovely.

DS is looking slightly jaundice atm so trying to feed lots. Not too sure what else to do really but I'm seeing my midwife again tomorrow.

FlowerTink · 22/01/2020 21:08

Congratulations everyone! I also had a Jan 8th baby, DD is our second but we weren't expecting her until the end of the month. She's doing very well considering she was early :)

They say for jaundice feeding and natural sunlight, so popping them by a window in their moses basket etc for naps. DD is still jaundiced and we're being monitored for it.

So pleased there's a thread!

Bluebutterfly90 · 22/01/2020 21:35

My DS is a little jaundiced too.
His skin is looking less yellow but the whites of his eyes are still kinda yellow. The HV said to give it another week then go to the GP if it hasn't cleared up.

I've been trying to get him some sun but the weather hasn't been very cooperative!

muddypuddlejumping · 22/01/2020 22:30

Thank you @FlowerTink and @Bluebutterfly90 that's really useful to know with the jaundice. I've been trying to feed lots to help it and it's good to know it's so common.

Great news that your DD is doing well @FlowerTink

I'm preparing for a night of feeding although already feeling pretty tired from entertaining family.

Hello!

Can I join?

DD is my second baby and arrived on the 17th January was due the 24th! Just packed the hospital bag the day before 😅 Had odd feeling tightenings on the night of the 16th and by 10pm was definitely in labour as I couldn't sleep and they were coming regularly. Called the hospital at 11pm and they said to wait a bit as I could still talk through the contractions. Called at 1am and they said to come in. We arrived at hospital at 2:30 am (we had to wait on a taxi!) they checked me and i was 7cm! I was in a room with a bath and I sat in there through the contractions, able to come up in between and be myself and laugh and talk which was so surreal after the birth of DS where i just couldn't manage the pain! I feel the need to push, my waters went and she came out 10 mins later at 4:09am!

Currently having post night feed cuddles and found you guys and needed some others in the same boat, cos i just find the newborn baby phase is not my cup of tea and I need to get out of my head about it 😅 They're so tiny and fragile and I just end up finding (/making up) things to worry about!

Who is pregnant and who has had babies? Looking forward to hearing your stories!

muddypuddlejumping · 23/01/2020 05:59

Hi @Gierg and congratulations!
What a lovely birth story! Rather different from mine 😬

We're having our worst night so far and have only had one hour of sleep. It's going to be hard going today! Roll on the naps.

OP posts:
Gierg · 23/01/2020 12:11

@muddypuddlejumping oh no! i hope you are managing to get a nap now! Lack of sleep is the (one of the) hardest bit(s) of having a newborn!

muddypuddlejumping · 23/01/2020 23:38

@Gierg I did get a little more sleep this morning but definitely hit baby blue too so it's been a tough day. Hope for a better night tonight!
@OccasionalNachos and @LucaFritz how are you getting on?

OP posts:
LucaFritz · 23/01/2020 23:53

Im officially in Labour! Got until Saturday for things to progress naturally or they might induce me as my waters have gone Grin

muddypuddlejumping · 24/01/2020 01:51

@LucaFritz how exciting! Hope you're doing okay. Wishing you a safe delivery.

OP posts:
OccasionalNachos · 24/01/2020 01:56

Congrats @LucaFritz - good luck with it!

I am very much Not In Labour but awake with heartburn at the moment. Due on Saturday but saw my midwife earlier in the week & I am nowhere near ready, in her opinion. Got all the leaflets about induction & currently spending most of my time on the birthing ball...

muddypuddlejumping · 25/01/2020 04:51

@LucaFritz I hope you're enjoying newborn cuddles now!
@OccasionalNachos sorry to hear that. I was booked for an induction on my due date which is next Friday and was so keen to avoid it.

Congratulations everyone! And good luck to those still waiting!

Had my second baby, a little girl, on the 22nd. Planned c section after an EMCS with my first - the recovery has been so much easier than last time (so far) although the first night home I was in so much pain that I wished I'd stayed in hospital! Turned out to be trapped wind, couldn't believe that it was more painful than my scar! I had cup after cup of peppermint tea and its settled down now thank goodness. Also the after pains this time have been intense! Proper labour-like cramping, which made me glad that I had a section without labour this time. Trying to stay on top of painkillers and remember that I shouldn't be bending or lifting anything.

Day 3 now and my milk has come in this morning, woke up after 3 hours sleep to leaky rock hard boobs, so we'll see what the day brings ...

LucaFritz · 25/01/2020 22:35

My little boy arrived at 4pm weighing 7lbs 3 oz and it was amazing Brew sat having magic tea and toast now just watching him sleep

OccasionalNachos · 25/01/2020 23:01

Congrats LucaFritz!

Felinewoman · 25/01/2020 23:41

Hello everyone! My little girl was delivered by c section on the 21st. We have been struggling with breast feeding (she has problems to latch) and she lost too much weight but we are on the way up.
I find the hardest thing is the lack if sleep. I manage maybe 4 hours in 24 hours. How do you guys cope? I hope it gets better?

Congrats to everyone who had their baby already! It is a magical and exciting time

emma8t4 · 25/01/2020 23:53

I’m still waiting for mine was due on the 15th so I’m 41+3, had 3 sweeps very favourable and 3cm but no baby.

I’m being induced on Monday, really not looking forward to it, I had a lovely labour/birth with my first.

muddypuddlejumping · 26/01/2020 01:18

Welcome all.
@LucaFritz congratulations on the birth of your little boy! Hope you're doing okay.

@starglass I had issues with trapped wind and after pains too! I was amazed at the pain! Can I ask, what makes a difference in your recovery? I've only had two emcs but if I were to have a third (unlikely but hormones are currently making me think I should!!) I'd have to have an elective.

@Felinewoman congratulations! I manage by trying to do more evening feeds then going up to bed at 8pm ish and my husband bringing him up to feed if he wakes. Then my husband comes to bed about 12/1 am and I feed again. At least I have a good few hours where I'm not 'in charge' so I properly sleep. I will express soon so he can give that bottle around 10pm which should give me even longer to sleep. It's definitely magical though 🥰

@emma8t4hope things get going soon!

Hello all! Jan 5th baby here, magical 3weeks on, and I think the exhaustion is just starting to hit now 😅 b/f so far has been good, feel there is a lot of milk which sometimes stuns the baby, but thankful for the problem plenty on that front. Clearing up a bad case of nappy rash, and a small umbilical hernia - if anyone else has this - would love to know what advice you've been given. Our GP said to dab with salt water twice a day and keep dry - it doesn't seem to be agreeing with it :/.

LucaFritz · 26/01/2020 23:53

Came home from hospital tonight and I'm so overwhelmed and exhausted. The house is so quiet compared to the hospital ward so he won't sleep without white noise or being held constantly 😪 i haven't slept since Friday! I don't know how people survive these first few weeks im on day 2 and crashing
