Would anyone like to join as I can't find a thread for the January babies. DS is a few days old born early via emcs but we're doing well. This is our second.

Currently surviving the night feeds by keeping the Jaffa cake production in business and the odd daytime nap.

I get random fear a fee seconds after I've woken up that he's stoppped breathing or if He's laid next to me asleep I'll check he's still breathing but my anxiety isn't as bad as i thought it would be. I even bought this breathing monitor thing that's still sat in the drawer un used

LucaFritz · 15/02/2020 23:16

@ReyGal my DS was born 25th so im pretty much at the same stage as you, have you googled the 4th trimester ? It's perfectly normal for them to not want to be left alone at this stage as everything is still so new to them. I co sleep with DS and it's the most natural thing in the world to me now as we started when he was around 1 week old as i was getting about an hours sleep a night if i was lucky and i was going crazy from sleep deprivation! Have you tried white noise to help her sleep DS will sleep in bed alone for an hour or two of i leave my phone next to him with white noise playing so i get stuff done that way

Kitten22 · 16/02/2020 18:29

Hi ladies,

Would like to join too!
Was due on the 20th but went way over.. just had him on the last day of January so just about made it to this thread lol.
@Felinewoman yes.. I always give him a slight poke to get a movement and then I'm reassured. So it's normal.. dont worry. It's you being a mum!

My little one developed a rash on his face that seems to be spreading by the day, does anyone know what that is? Or have experience with it? Looks like it's got white on top of spots and some are just red.

LucaFritz · 16/02/2020 19:06

The white spots are just milk spots they'll go away after about 2 weeks and if your breastfeeding you can use breastmilk on their skin to clear up rashes

Kitten22 · 16/02/2020 19:41

@LucaFritz. Really?.. Theres also red spots.. are they all just milk related? Also he's slowly been getting them shortly after birth and is now 2 weeks 2 days and getting worse. Starting to cover his whole face poor little thing.
Plz tell me it gets worse to get better.

LucaFritz · 16/02/2020 19:44

My DS has red spots too i think its just baby acne they come and go but don't seem to bother him and yes breastmilk can be used for all kinds of skin problems and even eye infections its full of antibodies

muddypuddlejumping · 17/02/2020 04:25

My DS has those spots too and they've spread to his chest. Fairly certain they are baby acne/ neonatal rash and so nothing to worry about.

Had the most traumatic experience earlier. DS was sleeping on me when he suddenly started choking and needing to cough. He was trying to bring up milk which was really thick and then it came out through his nose. I thought he was going to choke to death. It was horrific. He then screamed for over an hour but has since settled.

@ReyGal There is a group on fb called Safe Sleep and Baby Care that has a lot of advice for getting them to sleep in their bed alone.

Things like wearing their pyjamas next to your skin under your tshirt for a few hours before bed, using a humidifier, white noise, warming their bed with a hot water bottle before putting them in. We do all of that and he sleeps at night for two shifts of three hours with a break for eating. Not 100% reliably but enough that I am actually getting some sleep at night.

How's everyone recovering? Almost three weeks in and I am just about able to sit and stand without pain. I honestly thought I was never going to heal (third degree tear) but I've been out for a couple of walks with the dog the last few days and feeling much better. Still a little sensitive but more or less ok.

I was shocked when I weighed myself yesterday, I have lost 8kg already (about a stone in old money).

LucaFritz · 18/02/2020 02:47

DS just lwt me sleep 4hrs in a row! I feel like a new woman 😂 woke up with seriously engorged boobs though so had to wake him for a feed and get the pump on the other now im wide awake anyone else up ?

muddypuddlejumping · 18/02/2020 03:51

@LucaFritz 4 hours!! Wow! I'm thrilled with almost 2 and a half tonight 🤣
Looks like DS has reflux but got some good strategies for coping. The hardest is keeping him upright after a feed at nighttime.

Yh mine had some serious wind a few nights ago but some gripe water sorted him out i didn't appreciate the projectile vomit all over the clean bedsheets though Envy he's laid fast asleep across my chest right now and im wide awake so much for sleep when the baby sleeps 😂

sleepyboop · 18/02/2020 04:55

Hi all can I join too,

My baby was due March 10th but decided to come just over 6 weeks early 27th. so hes a January baby Smile hope you are all doing ok, look forward to chatting with you xx

Felinewoman · 18/02/2020 08:31

Good morning! My partner was an angel last night and gave baby expressed milk via bottle twice. I slept from 8 pm till 3am and fed her then. And she let me sleep again until 6 am. I feel so. Much better after two rough nights of very little sleep.

I started doubting my supply though yesterday because I wantef to feed her and she was very unsettled after. We gave her some expressed milk and she gulped it down. So this means my boobs were empty :-( and that was 2 hours after I pumped... So I though I should have made milk by then. Anyway, now I have breastmilk paranoia again.

My daughter also has a rash/ baby acne on face and chest btw. Think it's normal.

Felinewoman · 18/02/2020 08:32

@sleepyboop Hello 👋😊 and welcome. How are you and your baby doing?

ProseccoBee · 18/02/2020 08:59

Morning all, my little one has decided to keep my on my toes with his feeding habits. At the weekend he was amazing and went four hours between feeds during the night and my husband let me have a lie in so I had an awesome sleep and was feeling really refreshed! Then Sunday night he barely slept at all and I was like a zombie yesterday. He was literally up every hour wanting food or cuddles. Happy to say last night he was a happy medium between the two. @LucaFritz my little one also has a habit of projectile vomiting all over my new sheets and duvet like literally every time I change them. I’m sure he can smell the fresh scent of detergent!
@LoveIsLovely I’m pleased you’re starting to feel better and recover. I am in the same boat. Four weeks today since he was born and I had an epistisiomy and lots of stitches and I too thought I would never ever heal. Before the midwife discharged me she recommended that when I was feeling brave to get a mirror and have a look at the stitches so I could keep a check for an infection. About two weeks ago I did just that and was honestly traumatised! Thankfully things are starting to look a bit better now and I can move around day to day alright and can also manage small walks but a little bit achey when I get back! Eeeh the joys of Motherhood eh? Hope everyone else is well.

sleepyboop · 18/02/2020 10:28

@Felinewoman hello we are both doing well thank you he only had to spend 8 days in special care so we are home now which is great 😊 and his weight gain is amazing birth weight 4lb9 and he's now 5lb 3 so super proud of him, just getting use to the night feeds again 🤦‍♀️ how are you doing? Xx

muddypuddlejumping · 18/02/2020 15:04

@sleepyboop sounds like your little one is doing brilliantly despite being so early! Was there a reason for him being so early?
@Felinewoman that sleep sounds amazing! I've stopped expressing for a bit to try and ease the reflux which has helped. I think I've read that boobs will always make milk at the time and actually only store a very small amount so you will never 'run out' as such. She probably gulped the bottle because the milk was just there rather than having to work for breast milk.

sleepyboop · 18/02/2020 15:20

@muddypuddlejumping hi he is doing amazing thank you and no they said no reason just one of those things my waters just went early hours of the morning I got to the hospital when she went to check that it was my water she could see the head 48 mins of "active" labour and he was here 😊 my first baby was a week late so definitely wasn't expecting him so early x

Kitten22 · 18/02/2020 18:31

@Felinewoman.. how I'd love to sleep that long. I think I had 3 hours max.

Do u guys find yourselves sitting in one spot for like 2 or 3 hours at a time feeding, burping and changing? And then the cycle continues each time baby awakes? Lol. And the day goes by so quickly that you cant get much done?

MGC40 · 18/02/2020 19:36

@Kitten22 You have just described my day!!! Confused I always think, it's 5am, I have the whole day ahead of me to walk/play/bathe/sleep.....and then it's 3pm, I haven't left the sofa or brushed my teeth....or put my boobs away since 5am! I laugh when people ask, "have you got a routine yet?"

sleepyboop · 18/02/2020 20:52

@Kitten22 story of my life, I get up around 5 thinking I will be able to get loads done before my 5 year old gets up and whilst baby naps I'm exhausted by bedtime and can't even remember a thing I've done apart from feeding baby, changing nappies and playing with them both x

LucaFritz · 19/02/2020 04:55

@Felinewoman I've had massive milk supply paranoia all week too even though he feeds fine and has gained a ton of weight i still feel like its not enough if he's a bit fussy at the breast or cries after a feed. Have you tried anything to increase your supply ? I eat a ton of porridge and other oaty things as that's great for your energy levels and supply which i think is why i have a slight over supply still. You could also try cluster feeding and power pumping of you use a breastpump ? I have a haakaa and it took me till yesterday to finally get it to work but i managed to pump and freeze 5oz over the space of two days Grin its normal when full time feeding to be only able to express 1 or 2oz a day if that so don't worry if it seems like your not getting anything because baby will be able to get much more out at a feed than a pump ever can it's what they're good at! The more feeds and pumping you do the more your signaling to your body more milk is needed and it'll produce it but diet and stress levels play an important factor too which can hinder supply so try to relax and look after yourself as well as baby [flowers. I also found this website reassuring kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/
She also has lots of other article's on how to increase supply and stuff too

Felinewoman · 19/02/2020 17:55

Today was a good day.
Health visitor is happy with little ones growth. She's small, bit someone has to be on the lower centiles, right? Gained 250g in the past week which is great. And that means the breastfeeding is working and I can start trusting myself.
I then met a friend at the climbing wall and had my first climb after having my baby. I know they say to wait longer but I couldn't resist... I've been climbing for over 10 years and did so until almost 9 months pregnant... Anyway. IT WAS AMAZING
I felt like myself again and baby was sleeping happily for an hour in her pram.
Later this afternoon I managed to put her down and snooze for 20 mins which was great. She still wants to be held a lot but hey, she's 4 weeks old... That's allowed :-)
@LucaFritz thanks for the info! I also spoke to the health visitor today and I decided to use my haakaa (don't know spelling) pump on the breast I'm not feeding from during feeds. I get about 10-30mls per feed which sums up nicely. I will use the electric pump while away from home when I am back to working in the mornings from next week so partner can use that milk in bottle. We will see how it works out.
If worst comes to worst, formula hasn't killed babies....

It's nice to read in this group that everyone seems to be doing well and getting the hang if things :-)

Felinewoman · 19/02/2020 17:58

@Kitten22 i think your sentiment is normal. These little creatures are designed to use up all our time I think.
I find the nights and evenings hard... But there's netflix and mumsnet... And Dr. Google
Our babies will be at school in no time and we will be thinking back to the times when they were tiny and squishy

ReyGal · 19/02/2020 18:28

Anyone else’s baby not want to be put down? I’m at 4 weeks and still only wants to be held. Barely getting to eat now partner back at work 😔 same at night won’t go in her crib or even her sleepyhead! Hoping she gets night and day right way round soon
