I had that this evening too so abandoned her with MrWil downstairs and got an hour's kip. Might be worth you trying that on the evenings Mr Z is there zyla?

Fx for a non-terrible night.

ZylaB · 01/04/2015 04:21

He had her until about midnight wil but I feel awful as he has to go so far for work I worry about his journey if he's tired. She didn't settle properly after a midnight feed and I was about to pick her up, felt weird so did a blood test and my sugars were really low. I keep some cartons of orange juice next to the bed but couldn't find the straw for one as wasn't functioning properly. H was screaming and I didn't dare pick her up in case I dropped her. DH saved the day, grabbing the baby and I sorted myself out. Hate being diabetic though! :(

willywallace · 01/04/2015 06:58

Hugs zyla. As crap as it is being diabetic, she'll learn a lot from it as she grows up watching you. (I know this doesn't help when you feel physically crap).

If it makes you feel any better, once you have two, the baby gets left screaming fairly regularly. I read a thread on the parenting section where some poor woman asked if it was ok to let her baby cry whilst she grabbed a quick shower or took two minutes to make a cup of tea. She had a velcro baby who cried whenever put down. All these women told her No! It was being selfish to let her baby cry for the sake of a hot drink. I felt so sorry for her - she has to be able to take a shower. Not sure what all the perfect mothers do if they have a toddler running about too whose nappy needs changing/need the toilet or whatever.

TheBooMonster · 01/04/2015 09:06

Yikes zyla thank goodness your husband doesn't sleep like the dead!

Totally gave up at 3am this morning, bra off, micro in the bed, helped herself to boob a few times in the night and we both woke at 8am to the calming tones of mini screaming blue murder at being showered, best nights sleep I've had since she got here!

ZylaB · 01/04/2015 10:13

Sounds good boo.

wil I know it's best for me NOT to pick her up if I have low sugars, as I'd be more likely to drop her/not be with it/fall if it's bad, but it's the first time this has happened since I had her and I felt bad at not being able to pick her up. If DH hadn't be here I would have had to woman up and leave her and go sort myself out, it would have been fine and I know it's safest for her that way.

Am about to get ready and we're off to meet my NCT group! Cue lots of comments about how small she is!! I know she started slowly, I know, but keep seeing babies lots younger than her and massive! Mines just dinky and perfect Grin

ZylaB · 01/04/2015 10:13

boo I've tried that, but my boobs seem to smother H if I feed her lying down and don't sort of support them :(

willywallace · 01/04/2015 13:01

Haha giant boobs and small baby heads are not a good combination. Don't you end up with milk all over the sheets?

Enjoy your get-together Zyla, small babies are the best until mine gets big, then big babies rule.

Pisghetti · 01/04/2015 14:33

I can feed lying down if I prop her head on my arm. However I caught my spare boob dripping milk all over her face last time so will have to stay alert! I can only assume she's doing a bit of growing as she fed pretty much constantly from 7pm until 1am. Proper empty boobs afterwards Shock

RPopz · 01/04/2015 16:14

Scary stuff Zy Sad Don't worry about her being a tiddler. She's got catching up to do. At least all her lovely outfits will fit her for longer! Wink

I feed DS in bed lying down. I put a muslin down at boob level cos he dribbles a lot. Its easier once they get a bit more head control. I don't get other boob leakage anymore... I guess my supply must have finally settled down!

willywallace · 01/04/2015 17:32

I used to feed MiniWil lying down but always kept the bra on to cover the other boob. Can't do it with this monkey very easily though. How was it zy?

ZylaB · 01/04/2015 17:49

The group meetup was lovely! We sat around in one lady's house eatng cake, feeding and nattering for 3 hours :). The group seems to gel quite well, most of us were taking the piss about the same things.

TheBooMonster · 01/04/2015 22:51

we're changing the sheets daily at the moment and have a mattress protector so we're not too worried about the leaking boobs. I have something akin to gnat bites normally, but I guess for anyone with reasonable sized boobs the accidental baby smothering is a potential problem!

We're back up to birth weight today!

ZylaB · 01/04/2015 23:38

That's ace boo :)

Minion · 02/04/2015 03:56

Do you know what really fucks me off sometimes? The fact I have a child who will mostly only settle for me. Meaning even on my ' night off ', I'm still the one rocking the crap outta this chair at some godforsaken hour of the morning.

TheBooMonster · 02/04/2015 04:30

min it's especially annoying when it's less of a case of you're the only one who can and more of a case of other people not rocking baby right, or giving up too soon, so you're stuck doing it whilst they snore next to you feeling like they've given it a good go when they've actually just wound the child up more, which was always one of DH's favourite tricks with DD1

Attempted a nap this afternoon, had fed her at three, hot her off to sleep and snuck up at about 4... ten minutes after Coming up I was presented with a previously asleep baby who suddenly desperately needed feeding and then I ended up with her doing the booby dance till DD1 went to bed at 7, he did take her downstairs then but came up every half hour to report she was still asleep and ask if I wanted dinner, so I gave up at 8:30 and came down for dinner. Went to bed at 11, she woke up at 1, fed and begrudgingly went into crib, and woke again at 4... Wondering if I can get her to sleep till 7 once she's done feeding...

willywallace · 02/04/2015 05:46

Ah because every cry means they need feeding... Hmm Mr Wil used to do this with MiniWil but he's much better at trying to amuse this one. Don't think he could get her to sleep though.

ZylaB · 02/04/2015 12:06

H is 7lb 13oz :) she's just over 0.4% uncorrected but just under 25th centime corrected, so I'm a happy mummy! She also has a massive head and is a shortarse - only 0.4% corrected length, but I think she was a bit scrunched up when she was measured and I'm sure a couple of growth spurts will sort it out :). Neither me or DH are tall, both average so she was unlikely to be a 6 footer!

Am really happy with her weight yay :)

ZylaB · 02/04/2015 12:24

*centime= centile

Minion · 02/04/2015 13:34

Aww zyla, fab news. Lovely to see you happy.

Yes, the cry 'she's hungry, she ate all of 2 hours ago', funny how that only falls when he's not feeding...hmmm

Right, can we talk naps? Does yours nap on you, or in bed? I need to start popping her upstairs in crib for naps, currently she's either in pram or on. E and as much as I love having a warm snugly baby snoring away on me, I need to do stuff... So, how did you all go about it?
Wait till they are fast asleep then pop down or put them in room and wait it out?

Minion · 02/04/2015 13:55

Ffs she lasted 1 minute in her crib.
Tonight will not go well I fear

ZylaB · 02/04/2015 14:42

Mine only naps on me or in the sling, or maybe the bouncer (but only if I'm bouncing it), so the sling is how I get things done!

Just tried the pram seat with the insert, so she can be at an angle...seems to work!! She looked around for a bit then slept while I had a wander :). I think the angle for the reflux is better, but I also think she felt lost in the bassinet, with this insert she's held snugly by straps and can see me easier, she seems to prefer it. So....where shall we go this weekend?!

JuniDD · 02/04/2015 15:51

Great weight zyla
min mine has napped in her bed but often naps on me. Today she has not napped at all, apart from 20 mins at the end of an hour long walk up hills and up more hills...tired!

Question for the group:
DD wakes up around 7.30am and apart from a couple of half-hearted goes on the boob, doesn't want to feed until 10am (stupid clocks changing has ruined my mornings!). I often make it downstairs for 10am and feed her there. HOWEVER, she's often quite grumpy upstairs and won't feed or play. I have brought her down earlier and she's not wanted to play, not wanted to feed. Any thoughts on things to entertain her, or encourage her to feed a bit earlier. Or something else that will cheer her up?

OP posts:
ZylaB · 02/04/2015 16:41

I know I keep going on about the sling, but H loves it when I bounce around the house showing her things, like turning so she can see in a mirror, or out the window etc (or singing and dancing which I'd NEVER do in public or when she's old enough to remember cos I'm terrible at both of them!)

willywallace · 02/04/2015 16:43

When is she last feeding before that Juni?

Beware the cot nap. I put myself under pressure to get MiniWil into a daytime nap routine in the cot and now the wee bugger won't sleep anywhere else. Well except the car. But to answer your question, now that she won't take the dummy anymore, I would have to put her down asleep. I imagine she wouldn't last long but will sleep in the bouncer or car seat for hours and I can put her down awake in those. Babies don't like to be flat I reckon. She quite often naps on me though.

Great news about the weight zyla.

ZylaB · 02/04/2015 16:54

min I've just found a new place she'll sleep! On the feeding cushion with another cushion wedged so she can't fall down into the 'hole'. I think she feels like it's cuddling her :)
