Evening Ladies

First of all apologies for not having been here for absolute ages!! Just haven't had the energy. Have tried to read up on your messages every now and then though.

We are doing really well here. oscar is the sweetest little boy. Do not actually know what he weighs now just know that he looks really healthy Also was 9 lb 4oz when born so lots of stamina there to begin with

I am breast feeding him and it is going well with no real problems.
On the sleep front - he goes down really easily at 7ish and usually sleeps through till 1-2 am. I don't like to wake him up for a late 11 pm feed as I think it just disturbs his good sleep - but maybe I should? After that 2 am feed he then sleeps again for a few hours but then it becomed difficult to settle him again and we often have a disturbed couple of hours untill getting up time at 7 am. Hopefully that will soon improve! Also I am fully aware that I am very lucky with the way things already are.

Hope I haven't bored you with this long mail Will try to post more often again

Think MIL/DIL relationships are always going to be tricky - those of us who have boys are going to have to try and remember what it was like if we become MIL's and grannies ourselves! I know that my mum didn't have a great relationship with her MIL until just before MIL died unfortunately, it took her at least 10 yrs before they discovered some common ground (liked similar novels) and my gran realised my mother wasn't ignorant and my mum realised that a lot of my gran's scary bossiness came from extreme anxiety.

Had a bit of an anxious day myself, but think it's getting better. Throwaway comment from HV on Friday (didn't weigh him as he was asleep) about jaundice means that we have become paranoid about him sleeping at all! We also have to go and have more tests done this week to make sure that it is not the other type of jaundice . HV is phoning us tomorrow to let us know when appt is - apparently they should have done the test when we were in before, but it got overlooked. Cue DH and I scrutinising nappies intensely to check colour and consistency - please tell me this will get better? Taking it back to basics with BF and offering the boob anytime he looks remotely interested, which is pretty knackering.

On the upside, my yoga teacher phoned earlier whilst I was struggling to feed and chatting to her really calmed me down. Hoping to go in and tell my birth story to the class soon. Off to try and get some rest and stop worrying so much . Take care ladies with babies xx

maewest- Your not alone about worrying about things although tbh it doesnt get better no matter how old they are. I still worry over DD being ill and shes 2.

DS is such a windy baby, When you hold him all you can feel is him breaking wind. Its embarrasing to let anyone else hold him.

He slept ok last night fed at 10.30pm, 2.30am then 5am. its the mornings that do me in as were up by 6am.

Anyone else just feel worn out with everything. Im fed up of cleaning, washing, putting DD's toys away, keeping DD off DS, Keeping DD amused. At the moment I just want to run away from them all and have 24hrs to myself. Dh thinks hes helping but isnt really. If he changes a nappy he thinks thats all he has to do and doesnt bother putting anything away after him or the nappy in the bin etc it really pees me off.
Sorry rant over.

dangirl - noooooo! don't wake him! Sleeping sounds great, I'm sure the end part of the night will soon come together too

kayzed - I have really red itchy eyes too, and very dry skin on my hands and itchy patches of skin.

maewest - try not to worry and get some rest

kbaby - rant away - I know how you feel! Did you get back to sleep after the 5am feed? Leo usually wakes about 6 for a feed (we have to be up at 7) and I feel no way ready to get up then, but then if I do go back to sleep I get such a short bit of sleep before the alarm goes off that I feel even worse!

I am soooooooooo jealous of some of you
we are still waking every 2 hours!

Don't worry I'm with you nixnoo, I'm lucky enough to get 3 hours when he first goes down but then he either doesn't go back down or he wakes every 1 1/2-2 hrs. I' sure our turn will come....eventually

kbaby l know exactly how you feel!! i have to keep an eye on my dd when i put ds dwn otherwise she'll be jumping on him or trying to lie on top of him!! i feel really run down, ds always wants to be held, dd demanding attention and messing up home right after iv tidied up and partner is no use!!

i need to leave this house for a day and have a a me day!!

I don't know how you are all managing with more than one lo - I am struggling to get to grips with my first child and cannot imagine having another one to look after aswell - do all new mums feel like this??

Just spent the afternoon at MIL's - I am surprised my tongue didn't bleed as I was having to bite it that much ! DS kept kicking off his socks and guess what - that is 'just what his daddy did'!! Also, as she has never heard of reflux, DS cannot possibly have it - I had to sit there and listen to her muttering constantly about how the formula may not be suiting him/milk is too cold/vomiting is just what babies do - problem is, DH is exactly the same and cannot accept that DS may not be 'perfect'!! There is always another explanation for his vomiting rather than reflux! Am going to get DS weighed on Wednesday and speak to the HV about. Maybe I am being a bit over-the-top about being concerned - that is certainly how they are making me feel. Just invested in some cheap towels to protect me, DH,sofa and bedclothes during feeding as I cannot keep up with the washing!!

Lucky you all and your bank holiday, today it was back to school for us so everyone up, dressed, fed and out of the house by 8.20. It's a zillion times harder when I'm knackered to start with and having to fit Thomas's feed and sick mopping into the chaos. It's going to be a tough term.

Good grief some of you have awful MILs ! My sympathies, mine was the same for years.

I remember someone (?) talking about a late feed of formula at night to help the lo sleep through the night a bit more and just wanted to report back that it has worked for us twice now. We did it with DD and have now had 3 good nights in a row with DS. First night my DH dream fed him 3oz at 11 pm and he then slept until 3.30 am. Second night, same again but he slept until 4.30 am, and last night he slept until 5.30 am!!! I feel like a new woman !!! Of course, every baby is different so maybe it is just a fluke for us, but I'm not complaining. The only downside is that my boobs are like lumps of concrete from that one missed feed by me! DH is happy too as he lurves doing that dream feed, says it gives him an excuse to just sit and cuddle ds as he is usually running round after dd!

Already tried that Kayzed, but thanks, it just encourages him to feed and feed and feed and feed and...........I think it is the comfort he derives from being with me rather than the milk that he wants, so a bottle dream feed by dh breaks that pattern. I wish I had the time to express milk for the dream feed but I just haven't!

kayzed - thanks for reassurance. Thing is, I wasn't worried about it until the HV mentioned it. I mean, we know he is still a bit jaundiced, but as she didn't see him before, how would she know whether it was worse/better than before? But then she said he was still 'noticeabley jaundiced' but 'probably nothing to worry about' - well thanks v much!

I think now that we have been encouraging him to feed more it has messed up his system a bit as he had got used to feeding less regularly and was feeding well (i.e. not dozing off after a few mins). He wakes up scrunched up with wind, and filling his nappy seems to be making him uncomfortable. Maybe my milk is taking a while to adjust? He is sleeping in the sling now, think he is exhausted from me shoving the boob in his mouth at every opportunity .

Trying to organise meet-ups with mum friends (particularly those with older babies) as this seems to help me relax and be more reassuring than talking to health professionals

we bought a new (organic) milk formula yesterday and gave him a late feed with it and he slept for 5.5 hours! He did sleep for 5 hours the day before too but I had thought that was a once off...
I feel like a new woman!

It is still every 2 hours otherwise but having slept makes it much more bearabe...

hope I havent jinxed myself talking about it!!!

How are we all today?

Well, have really got this BF in the night business sorted. I don't make up a bottle now so that I'm not tempted to use it. Sophie feeds alot in an evening but then does sleep for 6/7 hours mostly.

maewest-HV do my head in. When I had DD1 she was here every week but with Sophie she only came 3 times-phew. Try not to worry too much as they can scare you by what they say (usually what they read in a book).

Seems like everyone is starting to get some more sleep We will all be v. refreshed soon!

Anyway, have spent most of the BH out and about so need to do some housework.

My HV when I had my daughter was awful too - she couldn't answer a single question and said some really stupid things to us too. This time round I have the most wonderful HV who visited us twice then said I obviously knew what I was doing and was doing a great job and just to pop in to the baby clinic she runs if I wanted him weighed or for a chat every now and then. Maewest, try not to worry as sometimes they can worry you without meaning too - they aren't doctors afterall. If you are worried about anything I would see/call your GP for a chat - they are usually really good at reassuring exhausted mummies!
Nixnoo - mine feeds exactly the same as yours during the day - every 2 hours. Although yesterday he did manage 3 hours because we were in the car. If you need a break, take them for a drive!

prettymum - its all tiring. how i would love a holiday on my own, ive even started looking longinly at people who appear to not have any children and wishing I was them.

I dont know if I should stop bf. I want to carry on due to all the health benefits plus its easier to just whip a boob out at feeding time but DS just like DD was is so unsettled. I cant put him down which is no good with dd to keep entertained and the constant crying is wearing. With DD it settled down by 9 weeks but by then she had the wrong sleep assoc and would only sleep if rocked or held. I was hoping ds would be a more 'chilled' baby. MIL said yesterday that maybe my milk doesnt agree with them and maybe he would be settled on formula. At 1st I just ignored the comment but now I am wondering I mean most ff babies I know do seem settled, however what if ff makes no difference to him at all then I would just end up feeling guilty for stopping bf. i just want a happy baby that i can actually lay down for 5 mins with no screaming.

kbaby iv found a way to settle my ds during night time sleep, i swaddle him with a blanket, i wrap him up in a blanket and he only wakes for his feeds every 3-4 hours.

the other day i had carry him in a sling to keep him quiet and to get on with chores and he fell into a deep sleep.

im considering ff so dp can look after ds and dd and i can get away!! im even considering going back to work part time so i can feel human again!!
