Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Diege · 12/07/2006 23:09

Oh CHACHA I have to admit a slight snigger at the idea of making potato cakes ,never even crossed my mind that they come from anywhere else than the supermarket .
RODEO: My love/hate thing with Nicky has swung to love; ok she is really irritating and whiney, but can't help liking her, and think a lot of her hysterics are rather tongue in cheek. Can't stand 'Spiral' (spoyrull)..think he has a problem with women and quite aggressive with it.
SORRY CHACHA!!! Have to admit DH can't stand BB, though nonetheless has annoying habit of sitting down half-way through and asking me what's what .
Right, bed for me. Nearly half way through scripts now, so can see the light at end of tunnel, just about.
Sleep well!

novadandypowder · 13/07/2006 09:55

Even though BB is quite dominated by the producers of the show, I do think it's an interesting insight into human dynamics and how we form relationships. DH refuses to admit that he's hooked on it.

Had a day out at a childrens farm yesterday with another MNer. Noo got to stroke a sheep and laughed at the baby chicks.

Chully · 13/07/2006 10:08

Hope you don't mind me joining this thread... my ds was born last November.

Tessasmum, I'm thrilled to hear your baby is getting around - to my horror, mine has been crawling for 2 months, and is now walking around furniture, so I'm glad to find that I'm not completely alone out there with an early active baby!

LaylaandSethsmum · 13/07/2006 10:23

Hi everyone,
Hi Chully of course you are welcome to join us. My DS born oct 30th isn't crawling yet but certainly moves on his bum. He's trying to pull up on the furniture but doesn't quite have the power to do it! I'm not in a hurry i have to say life is much easier with a child that doesn't move too far!!

We appear to have a tooth, just breaking through at the bottom , I only noticed when I felt something scrape on the spoon at breakfast this morning! Its about time!!

Rodeo understand what you mean about the whole starting school thing. Went to Asda and bought 2 grey skrts a grey pinafore dress and 4 polo shirts on tuesday. Had to try them on her and she looked far too tiny to be wearing them!!She's really excited about going 'over the wall' to reception though. It sounds like they're all getting ready to go to war when the talk about going over the wall!!

This weeks not good for town and next week is busy for me too don't think i'll be able to squeeze it in but maybe we can arrange something in the hols . Layla is going away on the 5th aug with my parents for a week so if you can arrange something for Bella and Joe then maybe we could meet that week or you could , of course , bring them with you!!

Started weightwatchers this week which is long over due, Ideally could do with loosing about 3 stone but anything would be good! Watch this space.

ChaCha - Hope all went well with the scan , let us know when you can!!xxx

novadandypowder · 13/07/2006 10:23

Hi Chully [waves]

My DD is trying really hard to crawl but just ends up getting frustrated. Think she'll be there in another couple of weeks.

Can we be nosy and get a few details from you? Where you're based, any other lo's, etc...

Londoner · 13/07/2006 10:25

Hello,

H-E-L-P! ...... in a sea of washing up, cemented banana on furniture etc, am reduced to 'Kevin the teenager' mode stomping around .... aaaaaaaaaaaaaarg...
ChaCha, thank you for lovely comments, and Diege, yes it is lovely to have older children and although we do all have lots of good conversations and discussions (and it's great as there's always someone to chat with.... when I'm not talking to you guys obv) I'm very aware of not blurring the boundaries between being a parent and being a friend... there is a fine line sometimes but I've seen some very miserable adults in my time who claim their mothers are their 'best friend' or 'we're more like friends' and as a consequence make a real effort to be parental in those situations where I could just as easily join in and snigger.... it's v. hard sometimes but I think it's important to be a bit of an old fogey to your kids sometimes ..... also they need to rebel against something... rather it was me than some other outrageous way of doing it.... IYSWIM... sorry if bit heavy.
Hello Karma! Lovely to hear your news, little Ella sounds so so sweet.
Oh, and ChaCha.... potato cakes.... usually I just mix some egg and herbs with left over mashed potato and pat into desired shape and coat in flour before frying in fat. Have found this recipe for you online which looks good too...
Irish Potato Cakes
Hi everyone else....... BEKs hope you're okay?

Chully · 13/07/2006 10:38

Novadandypower, I live in darkest Wiltshire, have only the 1 ds, and a dh who is a househusband (for a year, anyhow).

Londoner · 13/07/2006 10:52

Ooops loads of crossed posts, on the run but welcome Chully!.

ChaCha · 13/07/2006 11:00

Morning girls,

Hi Chully, welcome I think my DS is the youngest of the bunch, he was born December 3rd although Kristina was induced after me wasn't she? We haven't see her for ages. No crawling here either but he manages to get from A to B using his own funny little methods. We also have two tiny teeth come through, I don't want him to have teeth, I like the dolphin look.

Diege and Rodeo - I'm sorry guys but my image of you both has been ruined forever! Those designer aprons with matching oven gloves that I envisaged you in while preparing potato cakes amongst all the other things you do in your day has gone forever! I am in deep depression here LOL

Nova - Hieeeee! Sounds like a fun day out, did you enjoy it too? I hope it's an MNer who lives nearby so you can do more days out - that's great news. Your analysis of BB is good, but they know they're on camera right? I saw a girl on R & J the other day, can't remember her name, she was Japanese I think, she spoke about being born there and what her parents thought, she was from Manchester?! Right? She swore a lot, had a bright, bubbly personality..don't know much else or why she was on the show really. Also forgot to mention channel flicking and seeing people burp into mic, lovely!
Right moving on from BB...hehe!

BoB and Beks - Where are you?

L&Smum - Nice to see more frequent posts. Good luck with WW, I tried it before but didn't get very far. Remember going into work with my 10 olives in a plastic container and banana and tea already prepared as i'd counted all the points in the morning - I was terrible. Now need to lose about same as you but not likely with being PG. Scan is at 4ish and in other town.

Londoner - banana mashed into furniture, lol, i have toast, cucumber, banana all mashed into floor here, it's awful. Thanks for recipe, will have a look now, poor little boy has had really boring food, must get my finger out.

Off to finishe my brekkie x

Chully · 13/07/2006 11:06

Oh - I meant to add that ds was born on 25/11 on his due date...

LaylaandSethsmum · 13/07/2006 11:10

Rodeo meant to ask to Joe's friend get into the school in the end?

Rodeo · 13/07/2006 11:11

Morning!
Welcome Chully! Think there's a Nov members list knocking about somewhere with lots of our details on it (if you're interested!) So do you work full time if your dh is a househusband? Sorry if this is too nosy! What is your LO's name and birthday? Babyonboard and Garfieldsgirls both had early crawlers - I'm sure they'll sypathise!
Londoner, LOL I do the stomping round thing too when the house is a real mess - which is usually ignored! Wow homemade potato cakes! We never have any leftover mash though, it's dp's favourite!
L&S, I'llput down that week in my diary, hopefully going way that weekend but will be back from Weds onward. A tooth We're still gummy here. And LOL at 'going over the wall'!
Nova, was it nice yesterday? Lovely to be able to go to these places before the schools break up. We have a chicken farm down the road where children can collect the eggs and stroke various animals but the chicken barn smells so bad! I have to take one huge gulp of breath before going in, trying to avoid heart palpitations while guiding child and collecting eggs!
Diege, with you completely on your BB verdicts, I too cannot stand Spoyrull!

Rodeo · 13/07/2006 11:20

More x-ed posts I'm so slow!
Chacha - I'm sorry I really have got an apron! It's not designer although it does look very Cath Kidson....what times your scan today?
L&S - no Will's still not in the school, think he's gone down from 8th on the list to 3rd or 4th, but there's time yet, fingers crossed! He'll miss him so much if they're seperated!

OP posts:
ChaCha · 13/07/2006 11:24

Chully that was my due date; I went over a week.

Have just had some good news, my mum's move has been approved so she'll only be 25 miles away soon. Hurray! Lots of help.

Rodders - Don't remember much about my grandfathers but do remember that my foreign grandad used to keep poultry on the roof of his house, and rabbits. He would take me up there to feed them and I remember that awful smell, combined with the heat I used to want to puke. The other grandad owned a pub, an entirely different story!

See you all tonight girls, must do something before DH comes to take me for scan. Still sat in PJ's while DS sleeps on. x

ChaCha · 13/07/2006 11:34

Need to rant....aghhhhhhh!

How do i stop these blasted call centres from phoning every 5 minutes....?!?

First of all, think i've got a funny phone call, no one on other end, then echo, then:

Hello?
Yes, hello mam this is Mark Smith/Max Smith/John Simpson/Joe Simpson/Nancy/Fiona calling from ...
From where sorry? There is a very bad echo?!
Mam is this 01......
Yes it is...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! and on each of our lines, and DS is sleeeeping...

Chully · 13/07/2006 11:37

Rodeo, thanks for the members list advice; I had a look - there's dozens of you! (Also made me feel better that mine wasn't the smallest baby at 6lb 6oz...)

Yes, I work full time - have to go now to a meeting in Bristol. But I have to (smugly) announce that I have just put on my smallest suit which I didn't think I could fit into, and it fits fine! Am ridiculously pleased about that!

BEKsmum · 13/07/2006 11:52

Hi girls

Have just managed to catch up since the weekend, so here goes

Hi Karma good to see you, funnily enough I was thinking last night I should phone you!

Chully welcome aboard, hope you enjoy our chatter, we can talk for England

Tessasmum well done Ash, have fun chasing him around , no crawling here yet, but he is starting to go backwards on his tummy so I suppose I've only got a few more weeks of peace and quiet!

Chacha enjoy seeing your new lo this afternoon, can't wait to here all about it.

I'm with you you Rodeo & L&Smum, I can't get my head around the fact that Ben will be going to school just after Xmas, he is really going to miss his core group of friends when they all go to school in September, unfortunately he missed the cut off by 8 days, so I'm sure I'm going to
have a very moody young man on my hands until he goes to big school.

Rodeo glad to hear you sounding a bit brighter, sounds like you had a rough week last week.

Diege, great image of Libby, I take it you didn't ask for the GI Jane look and that's it's just how it turned out.

Nova good to see you back, Nat sounds really cute, I couldn't trust Thomas to stroke anything as he'd just grab a handful of fur!

Sorry for the absence this week, have just been really busy, went to see Magic of the Dance on Monday night, a good show but glad I hadn't paid for it, as not really our cup of tea but as Ben won it, it made for a nice night out.

Went out with the girls on Tuesday night, evening started well, as a friend who has been living in Hong Kong for a year surprised us by turning up, it was fantastic to see her, then the evening turned sour when one of my friends had too much to drink and got seriously lary with me, spoke to her about it today and she doesn't remember a thing - glad I refrained from flattening her now Think I'd better get back on the St. John's Wort to control my temper!

Had the girls over yesterday so that the friend from HK could get her boys and all our kids together again, so ended up cooking nuggets and chips for 6 kids and clearing up the debris afterwards, so all in all just a bit busy at the moment, have been reading the thread just no time to post.

Off to the park this afternoon, so best go and get ready while Tom is asleep, still waiting for the dreaded chicken pox here so going out while I've got the chance. Sorry for the essay, catch up with you all soon. Beks

BEKsmum · 13/07/2006 11:56

Chacha sorry just seen your post, go on line and register with the Telephoney Preference Service, by doing this they then aren't allowed to ring you and if they do they can get fined up to about £20K per call.

So when they phone you tell them you are registered with TPS and funnily enough you'll find the line will go dead very quickly and you shouldn't get any more If they say what is that ask to speak to a manager and tell them about TPS, it's just as effective!!! Have fun

ChaCha · 13/07/2006 11:58

I'm back and i can't remember why I always seem to think of replies when I'm stacking the dishes...it's so weird.

Chully - forgot to say. We have a Y group where we post pics of our babies and the odd message. There are only a few conditions for joining so make a note:

  1. You have to have posted at least 600 messages in your first three months;
  2. You have to take a small test via the web to confirm your indentity - it's nothing much.
  3. You will need to submit a small 60 second video (upload directly to site) to show your child's achievements to ensure that he is in the correct achievement threshold.

Look forward to seeing you there [private hand shake]

BEKsmum · 13/07/2006 12:22

Chacha you wind up merchant, how comes Chully gets in so easily, I had to go through a lot more than that before you'd let me join!!!

browniechick · 13/07/2006 12:37

Hey All!! Welcome Chully . Agree with Beks (I think!) we can talk for England, oh and every other country whilst we are at it!! So be prepared for major catch ups if you miss a day!!
Did you say where abouts you live? Sorry, can't remember! My ds was also born on 25/11 (although he was due on the 22nd). We are not quite crawling yet - but think this is only a matter of time!
Chacha - only caution with the TPS - is that it won't stop any calls from call centres based in India and the like - there is no way of stopping these calls, however, since they are paying for the call, a good way to get them to bugger off is to start asking them questions (how is the weather with you today, are you having a good week etc) they soon hang-up! Also, perhaps you could try touting for your own business (gosh that sounds a bit rude! sorry!! ) for your virtual office - ask them if they have any vacancies, or need for assistance....that'll confuse 'em!

What ever happened to the other 2 newbies we gained? Wrinkly and ?? (oops, forgot the other girls name ) We can't have scared them off - we are the nicest thread on MN!!!!

Ok, must get on and do some work!

Brownie

Londoner · 13/07/2006 14:30

Hey BEKs, glad to hear from you...phew, sounds busy! Had forgotten you were waiting for the Chicken Pox, any sign of unreasonable behaviour yet? From ds... often 1st symptom, though possibly a hard one to spot in a 4 year old!
Lol a lot at you being glad you didn't deck your friend, you're so funny and outrageous!
Rodeo, lol at never any left over mash, yours must be nicer than mine! My kids seem to view meals as snacks and fill up on bread/toast and yoghurts between meals and cereal at bedtime the horrors... although have to admit to also snacking a lot myself...
Lol at Libby's haircut Diege! Oh you poor thing....lol so much at 'very own action man'. Will'o the Wisp look sounded so cute too... sorry, I'm not helping am I. Oooh wonder how it'll look when it grows back, bet it's lovely and thick. Make sure she wears a pink t-shirt and ribbon at all times.... anyway, surely she's too pretty and feminine to be mistaken for a boy.
ChaCha, you're prob staring at photo of new lo as we speak...... Oo, can you scan a copy onto Yahoo?
Oh, for the unwanted phonecalls... if you have a secrecy button on your phone you can say 'yes, hang on a minute' put phone on secrecy and leave it. Also, sometimes I tell them I don't want sales calls and my number is x-directory, ask them to please remove my number from list.... and for the silent/automated ones apparently if you alternate presssing # key and no.7 key repeatedly this confuses the main computer which then throws your number off the system. Don't know if that last one really works, using all of these seems to have stopped my sales calls so have gone from a few a day to maybe one a month... good luck. Oh, and lol at 'conditions of entry' for Yahoo.
L&S, congrats on the tooth and good luck on the WW!
Chully, at your LO on move for 2 months already, no wonder you can fit into your tiniest clothes!
Right, am insanely tired and going off for a nap ! Housework will just have to wait......

Londoner · 13/07/2006 14:36

Oh, and this morning there was ash everywhere outside on the ground, on rooves and floating in the air, was so strange. Now have just found out there was a massive fire in Collindale ( North London I think?) last night. Maybe as where I live there's a dip in the land level so all debris got dropped here? Made me think of Pompeii, ash travelled for miles didn't it? And once in our old house we had sand apparently from the Sahara the same, was really bizarre..... I didn't imagine it honest!

GarfieldsGirl · 13/07/2006 14:42

Karma Hello, good to 'see' you, glad you're doing well, I can just picture Ella sitting there clapping and chattering away to you!

Rodeo - have to say I'm glad I'm not really into this BB, there seems to have been a lot of chundering, yuk yuk yuk!

Chully - Hiya Sean, my ds has been crawling for about the same time as yours, and yes, also walks round the furniture, adn is now getting very confident at lettign go. Eeek!

L&Smum - aaah! at little school skirts, have been eyeing up the grey trousers, but as boys tend to grow in spurts, I think I'll wait a bit. All the rest of his stuff is ordered from school though.

ChaCha - that was a lovely story about your grandad with the rabbits, I was sat here going 'aahhhh, how cute', then it changed to 'eewww, yuk'! lol

Brownie - wrinkly & titney? I was wondering myself, it can be hard to keeep up!

Hello to everybody that I haven't mentioned.

GG xx

GarfieldsGirl · 13/07/2006 14:46

Hi Londoner, x-posts.

I seem to remember something from school about sand from the Sahara regularly being blown this far, so I believe you, lol!
