How exciting for a new thread - two FESHspring due shortly!

cossie Have made first appointment with EA to view a 3-bed house on Tuesday. I've singled out around 6 I like which vary in price from (sorry, you'll all hate me) 83k - 135k (euros). So will get the ball rolling & see what I like. Just love these prices - will not feel like a millstone around my neck and there will be a room or two for the kids and in the interim an office for me.

Place I'm looking at on Tuesday is walking distance to station/high st. - walking distance to gym & jb's work - 2 mins off motorway and has a kiddy play park and school so finger's crossed it's not minging. It has a German kitchen that I was lusting after a few years ago. A kitchen I tell you! It's v dull from the outside but inside looks gorgeous and the entire house has been done up in the last few years. I don't want to be arsed with maintenance issues.

House shopping sounds exciting. I love noseying viewing properties for sale.

Can't believe it's Friday tmw. The days in the Spa just merge into one big blur don't they. I iz prolly delirious from the sleep deprivation.

I have been to the pub with Clucky - woo-hoo! I know how to live. Be pregnant I made her drive and I got hammered on 2 small glasses of vino tinto. LG has not missed me at all.

Oh boxy how horrible for you. Hope he is sill recovering nicely. Artie was most clingy all day yesterday and had a temp in the evening, so we dosed him with calpol. Not quite so dramatic

AIBU to be fucked off with 2 pieces of well meaning advice yesterday? MIL asking in astonishment, is Artie not in bed yet at 8, and step mother querying my milk supply and suggesting formula when I mentioned feeding every 2 hoursish at night. Nowt wrong with my milk supply thanks, I just seem to have a snacker rather than a big meal eater. LEssion learned, will not mention night feeding habits again!

boxer Well done on going out and leaving LG in his father's capable hands! Yep, booze tolerance seems to have diminished somewhat - I fear I'll never recapture those student glory days. :(

Cossie Feeding is a very personal thing - you can only do what's best for your family. As for "strict bedtime"? Whatevah... it's not as if he's got to get up for school in the morning!

My colleague's 9 month old got meningitis this summer - he's lost his hearing in one ear and some in the other although the stuff they can do these days is amazing. Sounds so "crass" to say "it could've been worse" - but you know, it could've. :(

FESHs -advice plz.

The Boy has a hard ish bit on his top lip in the centre. It's the same colour as his lip. Looks sort of like hard clear skin. I want to say ulcer but it's not and I am talking balls. Is it from bf'ing? Plz to tell me what it is and what to do / if owt?

Boo had that too Silv, don't worry, it will go and doesn't seem to cause any discomfort. At least it never stopped Boo feeding!

Not yet plz Pone, I still have 6 weeks to go thank you! I have bought a birth pool and hope to use it, so don't want baybee to come too early. In fact, I'd rather it was late so I can sit with feet up having a relaxing christmas first. Me and baybee have had words and agreed that 28 December is a good day to be born. Cos tell all the various 'other people's mothers' that you and your HV are both very happy with Artie's feeding, thank you very much, and politely keep your opinions to yourselves. And he is a very lickle boy to have a strict bedtime routine yet.

Last night was bliss all round here. LG got into our bed and smiled and gurgled for ages before dropping peacefully off to sleep. Contrast that with yelling, screeching and flailing in the hospital cot. I mentioned to one nurse that he was not used to cots and got a huge lecture on the dangers of co-sleeping. I didn't go on about the dangers of putting a baby in a cot in it's own room as such a young age, I just smiled and nodded. Besides, we haven't built his bedroom yet...

Off to the hossie today to get his drucks top-up, and then off to see this and this

It seems that I am having one of those days so any help/advice appreciated.

I will start at the beginning :

Can I also ask why are men so fecking useless! Last night was up feeding the boy. Put him to bed and noticed he was breathing heavily and making a lot of noises. Usually he is a bit vocal and when feeding can be a bit wheezy etc and if he has a face full of boob he sounds like he is really puffing. So I asked HI what he thought and he gives me the standard "I don't know" which helps no one. I didn't know whether to phone the hossie or NHS direct or what. In the end I was up til gone 4am watching him as he wasn't going off to sleep or crying as normal but lying there grumbling and breathing heavy. In the end I looked it up on the Internet. Apparently heavy breathing is common. If it's more than 60/70 breaths a min you need to get assistance but if not just hold them upright so any mucus/excess milk can drain. I wondered if he was getting a cold. All in all was stressful and when I woke up this am he was still asleep and got HI to check he was ok! He was ok tho I read in my NHS book that I should have called a dr.

I went and had a shower this am whilst my boy was in his basket. HI had gone out to see a client. I popped in to check on him and panicked cos he was laid there stock still eyes wide open and I made him jump as I gave him a little wiggle. I checked his temp and he's at 37 which is borderline right ? The hossie say the mad is 37.4. So I have stripped him off to his vest and he is now having a feed. Still feels warm.

The room we are in is neither too hot or cold. Just pleasant. I am in a tshirt.

Should I be concerned or am I being a silly neurotic first time mum?

Plz to have advice so I don't have to give HI a call.

Sounds like a cold coming on Silver but if you're unsure try your HV or call the Docs. They are quite used to being inundated with calls from new Mums....that's what they're there for [nods]

silv Phone the mw for reassurance. As for "stuffy breathing", fanny gave me a great tip for that - I've elevated one end of his cot with a couple of books under each leg - he seems to be less snuffly this way. :) As for temporarily hating HI - I believe this can also be filed under normal.

We are under the HV but I have no number or name. I will call my GP.

I have got travel guides under one end of his basket. Think it could do with a couple more to be fair!!!

He's been feeding for the last hour and finally looks like he may sleep. He keeps rolling his eyes which is a bit scary !!!

HV got the GP to call me and on her advice we are now at the hospital.

The little fella has had an xray and obs. We are being transferred to the ward and then to another hospital. They are concerned about what happened however he looks better now. He also had rolling eyes and they want to rule out fits. They are also talking about a lumbar puncture but I am not sure about that. He will have bloods taken and will have to have a canula.

I think he is trying to copy LG. Frankly he has put the shits right up me and HI.

Do wonder if I have imagined it cos when someone questions you, it's normal for me to doubt myself.

I should have just called the GP or brought him to A&E in the early hours when it all first kicked off.

Main thing is to get him checked out and it hopefully will turn out all to be hunkydory.

Oh blimey - what a worry Silver. Goes to show your instinct was right....hope it turns out to be alright.

Oh bloody hell silv! I'm so sorry I suggested rolling eyes were tiredness. :( What are these M4 corridor boys trying to do to you all? :( Please don't beat yourself up about not phoning GP in early hours - you (we) don't know all the answers and I hope rots won't mind me saying (if she's still reading) that she too presented LC at the doctor and was told "you should've come in before". We're damned if we do and damned if we don't. There are plenty who'd have called 999 at the sniffles, then there are the hardier type who wait until a limb falls off. [confued] NOT.YOUR. FAULT!

I don't want to diminish what's happening to poor silv right now but just wanted to say that I cracked and on the way home bought a buggy which folds away to nothing. Am sick of enormous Quinny dominating life & shopping centres. Also bought Bumbo - first think you do is stick a stick over the "do not place on elevated surface" thing right? Then place baybee in Bumbo on sofa. Ah good, glad you're all with me. Wasn't it okie who reckoned to sticking them on the kitchen table in a Bumbo?

silver I have only just seen all this. I hope your little lad is ok. They are designed to scare us I think and you are in the right place. From what you have described, I honestly don't think I would have called anyone, unless things got worse. So don't /be upset with yourself. (I spent a few days thinking I had a super-strong, head-lifting, supremely quiet well-behaved baby, when I actually had a reflux-ridden, back-arching, dehyrated, lethargic, underweight girl. Thank goodness for HVs/MWs who actually know what they are doing).

My heart also goes out to boxy after the LG scare. I thought I had posted re that this morning, but my note seems to have gone awol. The needles might not be fun, but at least he won't remember any of it. Hope the little guy is brighter again this evening.

alps, I actually find that the Quinny is one of the smaller prams when I am out and about. I have seen some stonkers! We have inherited an umbrella fold push chair, and I have sat Squeaks in it once, but I think it's still a bit too upright for her. Also needs a bloody good clean thanks to former resident's apparent penchant for messy biscuits. Her dad did apologise for the state if it when he handed it over. I knew it would end up stored somewhere dusty for a while, so wasn't fussed.

Silv so sorry to hear about your scare. I hope he is on the mend now and that you will be home before you know it.

I've done the 'good mummy/bad/mummy thing' today, and after spending the morning taking LG to hospital for his drucks, I spent the afternoon escaping to look at gee-gees. I initially called about the brown mare, and the seller suggested I look at her dun gelding too. I thought 'yeah, yeah. He's too young.' But when I saw them both today I was instantly smitten by the dun. He's lovely, a bit like my big horse in personality, and looks just like a slightly bigger version of the pony I had when I was a teenager. So I would have bought him, but the woman isn't answering her phone now! I'll try again tomorrw. Even Clucky says I should buy him, and she's usually my voice of reason

Ski you are right about the Bumbo. Poor LG will have to have TT's pink Bumbo - never did my sister's boys any harm!
