Would you vote for Angela Rayner?

Sounds like she's throwing her hat in the ring.

She says she's paid off the tax she owes and is no longer under investigation.

This apparently means she's free to run - and is going to.

I suppose if it was a choice between her and Pol Pot then I’d have to. But otherwise, no.

Hallowedturf · 14/05/2026 07:12

All joking aside, can you honestly contemplate Angela Rayner as your PM? A dishonest, uneducated, inarticulate, ideological individual, with some very odd values.

Economy aside, the UK is a nuclear-armed state. Think about it.

Are you seriously suggesting to people that she is the best we have?

How the hell did we get here???

billysboy · 14/05/2026 07:12

I still think she was set up to fail on her 1.5m housing target

Cheesipuff · 14/05/2026 07:13

I’ve listened to her on the the rest is politics podcast (Gen Z) -she sounds very sympathetic to their plight, uni fees interest payments, housing etc etc etc - but as ALWAYS with these things no mention of how fixing it will be funded. So it’s all hot air.

She’s not very bright. The thought of her representing the UK on the world stage is terrifying.

I think it is unfair to say she’s not very bright. She could not have achieved what she already has otherwise. But unfortunately this is how she is being judged.

SpiceGirlsNeedAComeBack · 14/05/2026 07:15

No I wouldn’t vote for someone who thinks she is above paying tax.

Grumpie · 14/05/2026 07:16

She’s a puppet of the Unions. So no.

TheMentalMentalLoad · 14/05/2026 07:16

100% yes.

It is a shame but in my view Rayner would not win Labour a next election. Like Corbyn (who I liked). I like Rayner in many ways so it’s a sad thing.

@WildEnergySupplier weird that you say Labour is transphobic - quite the opposite I think! Many of us left wing women have been lost by the trans women are women stuff and treatment of Rosie Duffield for example.

Starmer promised self ID and a conversion therapy ban - neither delivered

It's interesting to gauge Mumsnet's opinions on this.

Rayner isn't popular but it seems she's more popular than Streeting. Is that correct?

If the leadership was Starmer v Streeting v Rayner v Miliband v Burnham, I would vote, in this order:

  1. Rayner
  2. Miliband
  3. Burnham
  4. Starmer
  5. Streeting

Anyone else feel the same?

Yes a would, but the snobbery and misogyny she already faces would be insurmountable in terms of being able to get on with the job let alone lead Labour into an election.

pilates · 14/05/2026 07:21

Not in a million years. This is seriously depressing.😣

Dollymylove · 14/05/2026 07:25

No thanks I would rather chop my own leg off with a rusty axe

Self-ID was a crack pot idea firmly rejected by the electorate. Conversion therapy was in the Kings Speech yesterday.

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes. No way.

This.

NoCareNoFair · 14/05/2026 07:26

She would be a terrible choice as she is so unpopular in the general population. The only name currently on the table who is liked (or at least not disliked) by average people in the country is Andy Burnham. Unfortunately he can't currently stand.

PersephoneParlormaid · 14/05/2026 07:27

Absolutely not.

ghostyslovesheets · 14/05/2026 07:27

No but I didn’t vote for KS either- I vote for Labour and the policies - so it would depend on that

Notmyreality · 14/05/2026 07:27

Hallowedturf · 14/05/2026 06:44

An emphatic YES.

Simply because she would warp-speed this Government’s demise as opposed to the current death by a thousand cuts.

Good point. I’ll change my vote and get the popcorn.

Could you link where you’ve got the stats to this from?! To speak for the general population is grasping a bit.

Im not challenging your right to an opinion, just asking for the rest of the population (I.e me and other MNers) speak for ourselves.

ghostyslovesheets · 14/05/2026 07:29

Unless you mean for leader in which case I’d have to look at all the options- I like Ed

ihearyoucalling · 14/05/2026 07:29

No, this is very much the wrong direction for labour to be going in.

Mine would be:

  3. Starmer
  4. Milliband (assume you mean Ed!)
  5. Rayner

I like Wes, but I don't think it's worth swapping Stamer for him

whattheysay · 14/05/2026 07:30

No

Freysimo · 14/05/2026 07:31

Never. Can you imagine her on the world stage? Kemi, on the other hand, yes, yes, yes.
