Sounds like she's throwing her hat in the ring.

She says she's paid off the tax she owes and is no longer under investigation.

This apparently means she's free to run - and is going to.

No

I hear you….. but another 2.5 years in power. The country would be decimated.

I don’t think you would need that length of time - gilt yields blowing out, and a run on sterling would make the Truss-era akin to a vicarage tea party.

Ihateboris · 14/05/2026 08:15

DaffodilLill · 14/05/2026 08:14

Maybe she's lying again.

Wouldn't surprise me. Corrupt to the core

I think Larry The Cat would do a better job

we all do.

So someone who finally pays the tax they owe many months later than the date on which they were due to be paid has been “cleared”? I must try this wheeze the next time my income tax is due.

The prospect of this foul-mouthed hate monger becoming our PM really would be a fitting end to the chaotic farce of the worst government in our modern history.

CoffeeCantata · 14/05/2026 08:16

No.

Nothing I've ever seen, heard or read about her would inspire confidence that she's a safe pair of hands at top-level politics.

ZenNudist · 14/05/2026 08:17

Labour still the least worst option. I think their policies are fairer than tory ones. Reform would be toxic. Greens barking and have no shot thankfully

TipsyLaird · 14/05/2026 08:17

I am your classic floating voter who is not loyal to any party and will vote for whoever seems the best prospect at the time (barring Reform, the SNP and communists).

Wes Streeting or Andy Burnham would be my choice. Both have a decent track record and you can imagine them standing at the G7 with the rest of them representing the UK. The markets wouldn't tank if they were elected. The very fact Ed Miliband is thinking of standing is proof that he is not appropriate for the role - he had his chance and the electorate said no thanks. Starmer has the presence on the world stage and on paper good experience but has done poorly.

Angela Rayner is just a joke. As someone else said - is she SERIOUSLY the best we have?

TiredCatLady · 14/05/2026 08:20

Absolutely not.

Nothing to do with her gender - She’s thick, dishonest and, frankly, a shit MP only interested in being on the make and take.
She’ll feign being to the left of the party to get the nomination and then flip back to her default.
She could actually lose her own seat at the next GE, and Labour would 100% lose the next election with her at the helm.

Corvidsarethebest · 14/05/2026 08:21

Angela Rayner won't win an election or hold the party together long enough to do so, so no.

Middletoleft · 14/05/2026 08:22

She's paid her taxes, but presumably because she had to as she got caught.

So, no I wouldn't.

Ihateboris · 14/05/2026 08:13

Not only pulled it off, but not liable to interest and penalties

Why? HMRC "fine" other people get automatic penalty for the interest for being a few days later with payments , she is weeks/months behind.. HMRC need to explain to us mere mortals

pasanda · 14/05/2026 08:23

Absolutely no fucking way.

For anyone even contemplating the idea of Rayner as PM I suggest you watch this 7 minute video of her trying to explain her way out of not paying the necessary stamp duty on her second home and then finally admitting that she should have:

According to the MN Rayner fan club - you’re a misogynist snob!

I think Wes Streeting is potentially more popular with the public, as he's less known and therefore less tainted. I was thinking he's the best of a bad bunch but I've read a few things now which makes me reassess that.

That wouldn’t be the case for long if he were to be elected. His links with Mandelson would be brought up by the Press over and over again. Possibly with some scandal we don’t yet know about.

TallSturdyGirl · 14/05/2026 08:25

xino · 14/05/2026 07:10

She’s not very bright. The thought of her representing the UK on the world stage is terrifying.

I don't love her but to say she isn't bright is wrong. I've heard to speak on several issues intelligently. A lot of people who say she's stupid is just basing this on her accent and background.
I would argue it takes a lot of gumption
and intelligence to get where she has from where she started. Very few people do.

Catsandcheese · 14/05/2026 08:26

Listen to yourselves calling her thick. You should be ashamed.
BTW - the economy grew in the first quarter, 0.6% so not quite tanking either. Rayner paid the stamp duty which is why that isssue is now clear. Hopefully Farage’s 5 million will be subjected to as much interest as Raynor’s issues hav3 been, though I seriously doubt it.

OVienna · 14/05/2026 08:26

No.

ThisDandyWriter · 14/05/2026 08:26

Snapespeare · 14/05/2026 07:35

Absolutely yes. She'd run through the Farage 'man of the people' nonsense like a dose of salts.
There's always something about looking down our noses about working class women who make something of themselves isn't there? Calling her thick, uneducated, inarticulate. Snobbery about teenage pregnancy. Grifter because she's defied the odds.
She's got a far better standing in the parliamentary labour party than Streeting. I hope she puts her hat in the ring.

but she is uneducated? I wouldn’t call her those other names though.

but she accepted freebies, twice tried to get around ct/sd obligations and she ripped off her son (that’s the hardest bit fir me). And the optics….the vape and drinking on the paddle board, the dj box et et. we don’t to see how leaders like that. Same goes for kemi, Rachel, kier etc and the fact she doesn’t get that and keeps putting herself in a position of being ‘caught’ tells me that she isn’t particularly bright.

she knows that people are gunning fir a photo of her boozing and fagging so she should realise when in public she needs to be whiter than white. The fact she doesn’t get that speaks volumes about her.

im trying to teach my 16 year old about the dangers of vaping , the message is undermined when the potential leader of of uk is vaping (and drinking on open water actually, also dangerous).

Whatabouterry · 14/05/2026 08:26

Absolutely not. The economy out there is tough, we need a steady ship to guide it.

I don’t think the Labour Party are doing a particularly good job right now, but personality of the leader is the least of my concerns.

Taking a wrecking ball to what we already have in place and putting AR in charge would be totally reckless.

She paid it for the wrong reasons though.

LizzieW1969 · 14/05/2026 08:27

I’m not a Labour Party member so can’t vote but FWIW I would probably prefer Burnham out of the possible candidates for leadership. I do like Angela Rayner, but I don’t see her as being able to win a GE.
