Right-wing American Pied Piper Charlie Kirk assassinated

I see a thread was started in Chat, but it's obviously more appropriate here. I've been in an American forum where someone wondered if it's of international interest.

Right now it's so early that there's no predicting what will develop, whether it will snowball into something catastrophic. Oddly, after a few hours, it's still not known for sure if they caught the shooter, which is strange, as they supposed knew where the shot came from. I'm already running across some odd conspiracy theories.

Lots of theories running around on social media re this. Ranging from it’s a sniper who shot him, the men behind were giving hand signals. He’s not actually dead that’s a blood pack and the shooter was in the crowd/roof and just a civilian

There are lots of theories and conspiracies and views online.

My only view is that I'm very sorry that his wife and children were witness to that , and now have to make their way in life without, who appeared to be a devoted husband and father.

I'm also very sad that Trump will (already is) be using the death of this young man to stir up more hatred.

From what I can see the only people 'stirring up hatred' are the ones who are calling for more people they don't like to be assassinated.

Nobody has been arrested and nobody knows the politics or motive behind the shooting.

No one has been arrested. The police think it was a sniper acting alone so maybe cut the hyperbole?

If you look at every political assassination or attempt in America, the vast, vast majority of them were perpetrated by people with right wing beliefs.

Even the person who supposedly shot at Trump was a registered republican.

I’m just going to search your previous posting history to see your outrage at the shooting of Melissa and Mark Hortman. Am sure I’ll find it.

The left are sick. The numerous videos of people celebrating a young Father of 2 being assassinated in front of his family prove that.

And for what reason? A difference of opinion? Hurty words?

So now being an outspoken conservative Christian in America is punishable by public execution??

You don't have to look hard, the people calling for more murders of people they dont like are everywhere.

It's in extraordinarily bad taste for people to try to stir up hatred against any part of society as a result of this dreadful act.

I do hope that people will not try to use this to gain political capital especially as we know nothing about the person who killed Mr Kirk or why.

Regardless of his views or political stance millions of people around the world have completely sympathy for Charlie Kirk and his wife and young family.

I have honestly never heard of him, but what happened is grim, and a horrible thing to happen to anyone.

I disagreed with most, if not all, of what Charlie Kirk said but no person should be killed for having an opinion you disagree with. Especially in front of their family. It’s really terrible and my thoughts go out to the people who loved and knew him and to the poor people who witnessed such a horrendous act.

I feel strongly that anyone who describes themselves as anti gun violence cannot truly be so if they are pleased that this happened. Regardless of what CK said, you cannot be anti gun violence if you celebrate it when it’s someone you dislike. All gun violence is bad. No one deserves to be shot for debating/sharing opinions. Even if those opinions are shocking/upsetting to you.

I am interested in the lack of arrest/suspect - to me it sounds more like a professional job than some angry uni student making a point. It was a long range shot (in my eyes - maybe I don’t know enough about guns) and, I assume, accurate so it must be someone who had some experience. But let’s see.

If anything, surely this shooting (and the many shootings and physical attack attempts) should pave the way for compassion regardless of political leaning?

No-one deserves to be physically attacked for speaking freely - that's the hallmark of a civilised society surely?

Horrible event. Sad for him as a human being. Far too many politicians/public figures get shot in America - Gabby Gifford, the Hortmans, the president himself etc etc.

I hope your man in the White House will rethink issuing pardons to those convicted of political violence.

It’s a faint hope but one day I hope the Second Amendment is repealed.

Unfortunately, we've moved from there to "hurty words must be punished".

I think this will have far-reaching consequences. The ugly, rotten, dark underbelly of extreme liberalism is being exposed. I do not refer to the every day people whose political ideals lean left, but the cult that has grown rampant in recent years, fed by the media and social media, and is truly a cancer on society.
