And I confess myself very surprised.

Kamala Harris' fundraising reaches a record-breaking $100 million since Biden's exit

@user556453 - I think that was indeed the programme he was involved with - and he was very aware that even back then there were Republicans who were opposed to it, both because it was spending money on the "gays" and Shock it was in Africa and part of his job involved making sure that they had continued funding Hmm.

He was a really interesting and thoughtful guy.

I can remember his name, so just have looked him up and he is still involved at a global level on pandemic issues - so will have been very busy in recent years Shock and will have been tearing his hair out at Trump's stupid and dangerous statements

Thank God there are people like him who stuck it out.

One of my closest friends is an epidemiologist who works for PEPFAR in Africa. Funnily, one of their biggest initiatives is providing drugs and helping hospitals set up systems to keep women from transmitting HIV to their babies while giving birth. Which you would think the Republicans would be in favour of, because they're all about protecting the unborn...

I know she is reading a script and had to give a "ra ra" speech at that convention, but to hear Kamala Harris call america the "greatest country in the world" was still outrageous.

The most racist, bigoted entity in all of human history, america is a white settler entity who dehumanised the indigenous people as "savages" in its white settler "declaration" written by the 600 plus slave owning racist, white supremacist tyrant thomas jefferson, while he also wrote "blacks are inferior to the whites in the endowments of body and mind".

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jul/05/facebook-declaration-of-independence-hate-speech

Those "savages" he labelled were ethnically cleansed from their land and those who survived the state sanctioned massacres were forced into reservations, an act which earned the praise of Hitler in 1928 for "gunning down the millions of Redskins to a few hundred thousand, and now keep the modest remnant under observation in a cage".

The global leader in race law: white only citizenship (1790), white only vote, racial segregation (white only schools, white only graveyards), white only immigration (prior to the 1965 immigration act), anti-literacy law (illegal for blacks to be educated), no race mixing (anti-miscegenation law, which only ended in 1967). Two of america's race laws (white only citizenship, and no race mixing) were emulated by the Nazis in the Nuremberg laws.

Kamala Harris being mixed race is an illegal entity in pre 1967 america.
Kamala Harris not being white is not a true american per the 1790 naturalization act (white only citizens) drawn up by the slave owning racist tyrants who founded that white settler entity. She's a neo-american. The racist pro slavery national anthem with lyrics written by the slave owner francis scott key, to see a person of African descent stand for an anthem that excoriated their ancestors for escaping from their american captors to gain their freedom, is utterly surreal.

As for the "city on a hill", a line by a Puritan...the Puritans being a bigoted, persecuting cult who would have had me, a catholic (as well as any other faith that didn't conform to their cult), hanging from a tree.

Think of the crimes committed by this white settler entity. The millions of non white people murdered. The lynchings. The enslavement of 4 million Africans (whom the 48 million today are descendants), dragged across the Atlantic in chains to work the plantations of the elite (the planter class, george washington, thomas Jefferson et al.), on land stole from the "savages" who were eviscerated and ethnically cleansed. Look at that white supremacist Discovery of america sculpture of a "savage" woman and the all conquering white man (columbus), that stood outside the us Capitol (a building built by slaves, just like the White House) for over a century.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Discovery_of_America_(sculpture)

Kamala Harris will say anything to get elected. An entity founded on terrorising non white PEOPLE (not savages america, PEOPLE), enslavement, and all the race laws over two centuries, and she, with a straight face, comes out with that?

Shame on her.

To quote a Native leader:

"July Fourth is a day we celebrate our resiliency, our culture, our languages, our children and we mourn the millions — literally millions — of indigenous people who have died as a consequence of American imperialism."

Many posters on here highlighted months ago that Harris wasn’t a good enough candidate. I myself stated in this thread that she talks in banalities, hasn’t got clear policies, that it was hubris to get carried away with the excitement and that hard work was needed to overcome her short comings. That pride comes before a fall.
You all shot everybody down that had this measured and reasonable viewpoint.

Posts actually argued that she is articulate and could deliver great speeches. I mean, reading back on these, it’s embarrassing.

You all got carried away. Just like in 2016. You got caught out then and will do so again because you underestimated a person who has already won a presidential campaign and you put your faith in another who is was never going to convince others that she is a leader. You were told ‘joy’ isn’t a reason to vote for someone and still you didn’t listen.

If democrat supporters asked the tough questions of their nominee at the start and expected results, you would be in a much better position. Instead, you covered up for her, deflected, fan-girled and tried to convince others not to see with their eyes and listen with their ears. Just like you all did when you pretended not to see an ailing Biden. Just like you pretended that he was one of the greatest ever presidents in the days after he withdrew from the race.

And now what? now Trump is likely to win the presidency. All because you didn’t listen. You didn’t hold the democrats to account and now they will blame Harris for the loss, even though they knew she was never a good enough candidate to beat Trump in the first place.

This is what happens when you lie to yourself and others. Holding your politicians to account, asking the hard questions is how you get a good enough leader to beat Trump. This is the tale of hubris

That's an absolute pile of bullshite. Her speeches are good, her town halls and interviews have been pretty good overall. She's up against an absolute babbling baboon, and a fascist one at that.

Maybe, just maybe, it's actually the Republicans' fault for putting up a convicted felon and adjudicated fraudster and rapist? Takes some fucking nerve to blame the other side for that.

And Harris has every chance of winning.

He is a babbling baffoon and she will loose to a babbling Baffoon because she was never a good enough candidate. This collective lie that hangs over her supporters, that Harris is good enough, that she is articulate and a leader is what swing voters don’t trust.

Democrats handed Trump the win with a terrible candidate. She should never have even been VP

Now not just America, but the world will have to deal with the consequences of Trump

If Trump is the big bad wolf banging at the door….you don’t send in a person who wouldn’t even be able to answer what colour the wolfs big shiny teeth are.

Trump, sweetheart, is not our fault.

It is when instead of supporting a candidate that had a chance of beating him, you stumped for Harris.
Then proceeded to try and convince others with ‘vibes’ and ‘joy’.

This thread was started because the OP was astonished how much money was pouring in for Harris. We now know her campaign has spent a billion dollars in the last 3 months and she can’t collect anymore votes than she already gained money ago.

That is deeply embarrassing that the candidate that has spent the most in US history on their campaign, is going to lose to Trump.

This is because of all the fan girl nonsense we had months back instead of holding Harris to account and thus making her stronger.

It’s too late now. The dems know it. Trump knows it. And there were a few posters on here that warned months ago that it would happen.

Right, it's our fault!

Everyone doesn't 'know it's over' because it's not. You sound a bit over the top, OP. Maybe get out and read more widely.

You're basing this on one article about the Dems freaking out? I've got news for you, we're always freaking out. The election is about 50/50. 47% of the electorate is baked in for Trump. No Democratic candidate is going to move them.

Again, the blame goes to the Republicans for nominating and supporting Trump. Do you also believe women 'ask for it' by dressing in sexy clothing?

But there are posters who will vote Harris on this thread.

Um, yes? What do you propose we do instead?

Who do you actually think you’re talking to? This is the online equivalent of deranged ranting with a billboard on a high street accosting random shoppers.

You have absolutely no idea what I have or haven’t done. Perhaps you might focus on the one person you can change.

twodowntwotogo · 28/10/2024 15:55

I still think Harris was a good choice.

It's extremely difficult to have her policies take centre stage in the face of the sheer racism and fascism as per the rally in Madison Square Garden last night. KH may have raised 1 billion dollars but the weirdo tech billionaires are behind Trump as are others who stand to gain from low taxation on the rich.

Musk has literally tweeted that she's a c*nt. OP, instead of whinging about people supporting Harris, I do hope you're doing everything in your power to defeat Trump.

He's rallying not just to win but to contest any other result so there's going to be mayhem whether or not he actually wins so if you're in a position to help Harris win please go for it and stop your kvetching.Musk's tweet

hamstersarse · 28/10/2024 21:51

Im following the election far too closely, its fascinating!

I genuinely cannot see any appeal of KH, she’s just a nothing. She has no discernible values, spends 90% of her time just slating Trump. And does it in the most ridiculous way that makes her look nasty, and usually a liar too. Those who call him Hitler, I genuinely think are a bit dim, it really has no meaning or basis. It’s just so dumb.

user556453 · 28/10/2024 22:41

Um, well, it does have a basis, which you would know if you actually followed it closely instead of ingesting right wing disinformation wholesale.

What is it with 'dumb' being the best the anti-Harris brigade can come up with? It's ableist and makes you sound about 5.

And what do you think exactly the point of this thread was? Why is was created?

Why on earth have anyone comment if it all means nothing?

A few posters pointed out early on this thread, that all this over the top enthusiasm was hubris, but the thread continued its cult like praise of all things Harris and shot down anyone with sensible and reasonable points.

This thread is just a tiny reflection of the bigger picture. The unbridled enthusiasm for a candidate who could only be described a mediocre at best and the takedown of anyone that dared to express concern and point out the hard work ahead.

So that’s why I raised it. This thread perfectly mirrors where it’s all gone wrong. Now Trump and his motley bunch are headed to the White House.

So what the actual fuck do you expect people to do about it and why are you so aggressive? She inherited the mantle for many very valid reasons and that was that. Would the world be different right now if people on Mumsnet had clutched our breasts and wailed and rended our garments? Stormed the capitol and shit in the corridors demanding an open nomination process? No, it fucking wouldn't.

Again, the blame lies with the Republicans for standing behind a wannabe dictator. So the answer is to get out there and spread enthusiasm and vote and hope for the best.

And, in case you hadn't noticed, the race is essentially a tie. Donald Trump has never yet broken a 47% ceiling and I can't see it possibly going higher this time, so she has just as much chance of winning as he does. A whole slew of national polls came out this evening that put her ahead (not that I put all that much faith in polls, which, as we know are a snapshot, not necessarily predictive of behaviour).

This is an interesting read.

Excuse me? Im aggressive?

You are the one swearing and being aggressive.

My post was a sharp reminder of how ridiculous Harris supporters were upon her coronation as nominee and look where it got them.

Everyone knows Trump numbers are usually slightly higher than the polls. They were in 2016 and 2020. State polls that put Harris ahead are not as accurate as the current national polls (as stated in the NYT today).

There are numerous stories that democrats behind closed doors know that it’s over but are trying to keep numbers up for the Senate/Congress

It's not a 'sharp reminder,' You keep coming on and ranting at people as though a different reaction would have led to a different nominee. Once she was chosen, why do you care if people were enthusiastic? I ask again, what would we have gained if we'd rended our garments and wailed at the choice?

And no one, including the NYT, knows how to read the polls or the electorate this year. Yes, in the past Trump's numbers have been higher than the polling, but there are just as many experts who believe that could break the other way this year. You'll just have to wait and see, like the rest of us.

Ah, the old 'numerous stories of Democrats 'behind closed doors'. Equally, there are just as many stories about Republicans behind closed doors, knowing they've lost, so trying desperately to lay the groundwork for the Big Lie 2.

'numerous stories' - that old chestnut.
Not as many stories as there are about republicans who 'know' Trump is going to lose, particularly after that extremely distasteful rally.
If you're actually upset about Trump heading to the WH, then talking down Harris instead of actually supporting her as the candidate who could beat Trump is a pretty weird way of going about things.
