If someone claimed to be the Son of God today…

If someone claimed today all the things that Jesus did/said, would you believe them?

Curious about how people would respond in today’s world.

What kind of people would support Satan - well he's pretty clever at being deceptive. How many people do you know who've ended up in abusive marriages, thinking the person they married was a kind and decent soul? That's sort of what will take place. At first, the AntiChrist will appear to sort out peace and people will be happy. Then things will start to go downhill. He'll end up wanting people to worship him, and many will because they are so deceived.

As for the rest of your question, Jesus can answer that: Matt. 12:30 "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters."

No different than a god wanting people to worship them.

The irony is not lost on me 🤣🤣🤣

i Would believe him because o believe (and Jesus taught) we are all the children of God

HoppingPavlova · 16/12/2024 22:49

@AlteredStater Goodness. That's quite a take on the life of Jesus! Do they believe there's a Messiah still to come? The OT does prophesy one

Okay, have asked one of them. Yes, they believe there is a Messiah to come per OT. They said people are hung up on a Messiah= Jesus ‘type of person’ whereas per what’s written it would be completely different, more aligned with Jewish historical beliefs. So unification of tribes of Israel, global peace etc. They said, in all seriousness, it’s much more likely to be a politician just doing a good job than anything else.

What’s happens if you’re an atheist and don’t believe in god.

I’m not sure what you mean by “what happens?” I guess it depends on your definition of god

Tristar15 · 14/12/2024 03:39

Of course not. Jesus wasn’t the son of God either because God doesn’t exist.

Prove it!

It's totally different. Satan wants people to worship him so he can lead them away from God's path, and ultimately destroy us. He hates humans, he's very jealous of us because God favours us. He doesn't care whether he hurts us and leads us down bad paths.

What’s happens if you’re an atheist and don’t believe in god.

Eventually you'll meet God and realise he actually does exist!

More likely that those who currently believe in god will realise that they’ve been brainwashed all along.

Sounds like they're more in tune with Judaism, but unfortunately all those things you've listed - unification of tribes, global peace and even a good politician, describes what will happen under the AntiChrist, so it puts them at risk of being deceived by him when they believe that he is the Messiah!

No you prove it. You make the claim. Who told you it was the “truth” that your god was real, and that Jesus was his son? The bible is just historical fiction, written over centuries written by men, who never met Jesus. It’s a collection of letters, musing, stories, proverbs, histories none of which prove a god exists. And just because some preacher, priest etc tells you your god exits on a Sunday, it’s still doesn’t prove that “he” does exist.

If I started to tell everyone that there was a Celestial Watermelon, flying around at night, around the universe, that sleeps in heaven but has powers of life and death overt humanity, would you believe me? Would you believe this claim, of the bat, that me and my friends make about this watermelon ? There’s also entire book written over centuries, also a collection of letters, musing, stories, proverbs, histories etc, about this Celestial Watermelon - would this make you more inclined to believe in it?

Likewise if there is no evidence gods don’t exist. What is evidence anyway?

Why would I believe in something that there is no evidence of its existence - I’m not that naive.

mrspresents · 17/12/2024 07:31

If they had psych wards 2,000 years ago do you think Jesus would have been sectioned?

3ormorecharacters · 17/12/2024 07:33

I'm currently coming towards the end of a year long project to read the whole Bible and have been surprised to notice how Jesus doesn't actually claim directly to be the Son of God. (Apart from in the Gospel of John, which was written a little later and is a bit different to the other three.) When asked he tends to turn the question back on others - e.g. at his trial he is asked whether he claims to be the Son of God and his response is "you say that I am". The title he most frequently gives himself is actually Son of Man.

Yirk · 17/12/2024 07:35

Well let's face it , this year has brought forth the seeming right to called yourself whatever!!
So somebody being the son of God wouldn't be a surprise.😟

Why, you’re the one making the extraordinary claim that there isn’t a God, extraordinary because you’re in a tiny minority when compared with all the humans who have existed who have believed in a deity/deities.

So who do you think is my god? Why do you think that that someone tells me he exists(I presume) on a Sunday? Why do you think I believe in a literal interpretation of the canonical Bible?

Actually the Bible is not a work of “historical fiction” it is a complex work showing the development of Middle Eastern/Greek philosophies bound within an allegorical mythology giving an interaction of perennial spiritual guidance and truths utilising a complex system of code for the most part. The fact you (and many others) haven’t bothered to read it properly is not my concern and doesn’t surprise me.

You could use a “celestial watermelon” if you like but that just belies the fact you have no understanding around the presence of gods and goddesses throughout human history.

You’re so busy telling everyone the answer is 42 you don’t even have the slightest grasp on the question

Parker231 · 17/12/2024 07:42

A quick AI search about the UK. Belief is now in a minority and declining.

According to a 2022 study, 49% of people in the UK believe in God, which is a decline from 75% in 1981. The UK is considered to be one of the countries with the lowest rates of belief in God globally.

Here are some other findings about religious beliefs in the UK:
Importance of God
The percentage of people who say God is not important in their lives has doubled from 28% in 1981 to 57% in 2022.

Belief by generation
Belief in God has declined among the Pre-War generation and Baby Boomers, but is stable among Gen X and Millennials. Gen Z has the lowest levels of belief.

What is your actual and irrefutable proof that god exists? Simply someone or something telling you he exists is not any kind of proof. Please break it down for me, but with concrete evidence and proof.

No, we won’t eventually meet this god and realise he actually exits. Why would arrogantly presume that for atheists?

You see that’s what happens when you ask a computer. All you get is an echo chamber of how others have programmed it to answer the question (with its underlying bias) you asked.

So even now 49% of people in the UK believe in God (which you - and therefore the computer data grabber -don’t define - the number is probably considerably higher if you consider deities/a universal supreme power(s) etc). You say the computer says belief on God in the UK is one of the lowest rates in the world. As I was saying to another poster, when you look at the history of mankind people who don’t believe in a deity are outliers, minuscule minorities. Their claims are extra ordinary.

Maybe you should read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy to see how asking Computers ill conceived questions plays out.
