Piddington Roars

Can I draw your attention to this please ?
A village of 400 people in Oxfordshire, the government want to house 1200 migrants in an old RAF barracks nearby. No consultation and no infrastructure to support.
Before anyone accuses me of being racist, my family make up negates that.

Well you’d be fine with it anyway.

I’ve said I live near a large site, and it doesn’t trouble me no. What would you suggest the people of Piddington do?

Lemonraider · 15/09/2026 17:49

I don't 'think' her solutions, they are written down.

They’re really not, but good to know that you approve of whatever she says with conceit al thinking of your own I guess.

Yes ik I was referring to that.

And as they are doing, they’ve got the attention of many and people should keep pushing against barracks.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 15/09/2026 18:25

Would the people of Piddington be content if the men there were detained rather than free to leave?

I have a feeling that the devil was in the detail. When people heard ‘military bases,’ they may well have assumed the residents would be under a form of detention instead of being shipped into the town centre every Thursday to heckle the locals.

I know, you keep referring to it for some reason.

What do you think they’ve achieved so far?

Well Patriot Platform are organising to protest
there.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 15/09/2026 18:31

Who the hell are Patriot Platform? 🤣. I’m guessing they are a load of people who are going to rock up with clingfilm wrapped around their heads.

Does anyone know what "conceit al" means?

Oh well that will really win over the people who make decisions I’m sure.

Very weird auto correct! Critical.

What do you think I’m making up?

You’ve repeated it. It’s obviously important it’s known that it’s fine for you.

They’ve got you on a thread talking about them ie someone who doesn’t mind mass accommodation and probably agrees with Labour. And broadly a lot of interest who don’t feel like that. Other villages are picking up on what to do if in the same position.

Political pressure is good.

Yes, I’m sure they did. But silly though since this has been happening since 2020
snd detention has a specific legal meaning.

As I said, campaigning for better services inside the centre would help, because then the men wouldn’t need to be regularly taken elsewhere for basic services.

I’ve repeated it every time you have asked, yes. I’ll ignore next time if it helps.

Well if you think my being here is helping the people of Piddington shut down this plan, then fair enough. I suspect it isn’t going to make a difference either way though, what with me having zero power over it either way.

It’s a cross party policy, so if anyone agrees with Labour on it they agree with Conservatives, Reform and Lib Dems too by the sound of it.

All the attention helps them. I mean you don’t think they should care but generally political pressure is good.

Our army barracks was used for Ugandan refugees in 1970s. A fantastic piece of our town’s history. I understand the nervousness but nimby ism isn’t helpful. There’s a need and an identified solution. Would you support it if you didn’t live there?

Ugandan refugees were mainly family groups who came here legally. Very different scenario.

Btw it wasn’t a question it was a statement.

Reform UK strongly opposes open camps. In fact, the party’s Home Affairs spokesperson, Zia Yusuf, recently slammed Labour's plans for an open asylum accommodation facility at the MoD site near Piddington as an “utterly, utterly insane attack on a British village”. (https://reformparty.uk/news/zia-yusuf-labour-s-migrant-camp-plan-an-insane-attack-on-a-british-village)

Reform is explicitly campaigning against the current system where asylum seekers in military bases are allowed to move freely around surrounding communities. There is a major difference between how the main parties approach this: (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/09/14/villages-join-piddington-revolt-over-migrant-camps/)

Labour & The Conservatives have both utilized or proposed using former military sites (like Bicester Site A near Piddington) as large-scale, open or semi-open asylum accommodation centres while claims are processed.

Reform UK completely rejects these open sites. Their policy strictly demands closed, prison-standard detention facilities where people are not permitted to leave at all before being deported within a couple of weeks.

Reform is actually backing the Piddington local campaign and encouraging other villages to stage similar revolts against the government's open camps. (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/09/14/villages-join-piddington-revolt-over-migrant-camps/)

I think they are shipped away from the camp for a day out, not to avail themselves of any services. We now have global citizen pets. We feed them, house them and take them on days out. It’s a nice thing.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 15/09/2026 18:55

There was literally nothing in that post. Must have had a bad word in it that set off the censor-ometer 🤪

MaturingCheeseball · 15/09/2026 18:57

I just can’t compute why these men are free to roam when we don’t know who they are . It makes a mockery of passport control and immigration procedures.

As I said, I have family in Piddington. They were saying that if it were a secure institution, then although not welcome, they would be reassured. The fact that at least 1200 men will be free to come and go, day and night is very, very worrying.

I’m surprised at people saying they’d be fine with it, especially if they have DDs.

KittyCorncrake · 15/09/2026 19:08

The spokesman for Piddington was on talk radio this morning. Don’t know what his job is, but clearly something that enables a person to give smug, glib, assured replies. Clearly confident that they will ultimately shift the load elsewhere to a community less privileged and articulate. He admitted that the reason they can count 400 votes today is to maximize the PR effect by announcing tomorrow.
They don’t want their lives disrupted and their house prices affected - they’ll probably get away with it and return to their luxury beliefs and rural idyll, and the burden be borne by the less articulate urban working (yes working, not on ‘benefits’) class areas that Labour despise.
Any sympathy I had for Piddington evaporated listening to him.
Not that he would remotely care -he is smugly confident that he’ll get them out of Piddington, and his normal privilege will resume…

As far as I’m aware they’ve had engagement from the PM and now Braverman and Pochin. If that’s all they’re looking for then they’re doing well.
