I'm so sick of seeing this, there's not a cool mum click, it's a clique, and they're not clicky (well if their joints are anything like mine they might be) they're cliquey! and breathe

This drives me mad too.

Anothernamechangeplease · 30/08/2022 07:04

And me!

Remainiac · 30/08/2022 07:04

And me! See also reins/ reigns.

TeaAy · 30/08/2022 07:05

You're right, but I think this is one where common usage will change the meaning. Click will become accepted and clique will die out.

SandieCollins · 30/08/2022 07:06

Oh yes! It makes my teeth itch

Pinkywoo · 30/08/2022 07:07

Glad it's not just me, I don't know about other accents but to me they're not even pronounced the same.

This is worse. Not much but a bit!

Fluxcapacitator · 30/08/2022 07:07

It is click not clique these days as more people get it wrong than right. It is a word that has evolved.

At least they sound the same so you can understand the mistake, like border/boarder.

Careful OP someone will be along to tell you border and boarder don’t sound anything alike!

SilverLiningPlaybook · 30/08/2022 07:14

Me too.

What? Of course it hasn’t evolved. People are just getting it wrong.

Poor Winnie!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 30/08/2022 07:37

Ha ha yes! Agree totally.

KatherineofGaunt · 30/08/2022 07:38

Yes, just read a thread about a mum 'click'. But you can't say anything, even just in a nice, helpful way, because people say you're being mean! So nobody gets to learn from their mistakes anymore and we end up with draw instead of drawer and whatnot.

JennyForeigner · 30/08/2022 07:39

Oh thank God. OP: this thread is the Lord's work.

Flowersintheattic57 · 30/08/2022 07:40

Looked at a house on Rightmove yesterday which was described as having ‘mature boarders’. Not very enticing. Should be under for investors only.
I wonder how much of this is due to auto correct that the poster assumes is right.
It’s autocorrect gone mad!

This is not acceptable, I shall start a national campaign immediately.

I'm with you op. See also que instead of cue - I always hear it in Manuel from Fawlty Tower's accent

If 95% of English speakers use click not clique, is it still wrong? I would give up the fight on this one.
