Why do single mothers always make fathers day about them?

Why do single mothers always make fathers day about them??

You don't see single fathers jumping up and down shouting "happy mothers day to all the single fathers fulfilling both roles"

Seriously, fuck off. Buying a dog is not the same as being a foster parent.

Foster parenting is a job, they can be taken from you literally any momment.

Sorry my comments regarding my Dog struck a nerve, that must be ruff.

Your poor wife. You woke up this morning and thought I know, I'll fill my day trolling single mothers.

I'm referring to social media mostly, it's always the ones that have made a "career" out of it - IE stay at homes mums on benefits.

I know several single dads and I've never known one do the reverse.

Oh God, not those ‘career’ ‘stay-at-home single mothers on benefits’…<swoons in horror onto nearest chaise longue>

I congratulate myself on Father’s Day. My DC’s dad doesn’t see him, and doesn’t contribute to his survival in any way. It was bloody hard work to raise my DC to be the best version of himself, work full time, pay the mortgage, be good cop and bad cop, every bedtime, every milestone, and be the only person who cared if DC lived or died. If you had grafted like I (and many other sole carers) had you might have wanted the self congratulations too. But you have no lived experience of it so as far as I’m concerned your views are a fart in the wind

Nice bit of benefits-bashing there. Post divorce or break up, men are much more likely than women to either abandon their children completely or to hardly ever see them and many of them go to great lengths to reduce the amount of maintenance they need to pay to their ex-wives/partners, by leaving their jobs, going self-employed and deliberately reducing their income.

There are absolutely loads of single mothers undertaking the roles of both mum and dad but far fewer single dads in that situation.

You're a married man and you don't have children so I'm not sure why you've started this thread based on apocryphal stories of single mothers 'making a career' out of claiming benefits. This is just 'click-bait' and very tedious.

I’ve never ever heard of a single mum doing this

I said before the men that do that are pieces of shit that don't deserve to be dads, I didn't get to be one so that they did and threw it away narks me.

Ah, you're judgemental about people on benefits as well as raging misogynist?

Gotcha

Oh, and I don't believe that you "know several single dads" either

Lifeomars · 08/06/2026 15:32

I was a single mum and it never crossed my mind to do this. However, given that so many women who bring kids up alone do the whole thing alone as I did then who can blame them? If a couple split up but they properly share the children, then of course it is not appropriate. But if like many mums you do everything, you work, you pay for everything, you do all the juggling of child care, house work, work and all the attendant admin , you are in effect being both a mother and a father

"It's a wonder any of you stay married."

Why is this bloke on Mumsnet insulting women, do anyone know?

MickyMoonshine · 08/06/2026 15:34

@NEGUY82the fact you dislike women is coming through loud and clear in your posts.
It’s very bizarre that you’ve decided to act out that dislike by coming on to a parenting board on a platform predominantly aimed at women and parents to start a post like this.

Surely there are better uses of your time and energy?

I'm wondering why you've come onto a predominantly female site to insult the women on here?

It sounds to me like you really hate women OP. Especially single mothers.

You might want to look into what that's about, it sounds really nasty.

Come on, it's a friendly jibe - you must've noticed on the relationship board the term "LTB" comes up far too easily - like "he bought skimmed milk when I wanted semi skimmed" - the response is always "LTB" 😂I wonder if the women that put that have such impossibly high standards in their own relationships?

I'm obviously exaggerating but not much.

I didn't think UC allowed single mothers to be SAHMs?

Anyway, I was a SAHM on tax credits and I barely remembered when Mother's Day was let alone Father's Day.

Thanks, for various health reasons we couldn't have kids - it's too late now we're both into our 40s - thanks for that though.

You’ve not actually answered the question…
What was the point of this thread if not to insult women?

steff13 · 08/06/2026 15:45

NEGUY82 · 08/06/2026 14:12

Because it's lame as Hell, and just screams "look at me I'm a single mother aren't I great!" - as I said you never see single dads doing that.

I have only ever seen single mothers do this when the father is not involved with the children. And I think that's fair enough. I have never seen a father who was the only parent to his children, but if that is someone's circumstances then I think that they are more than welcome to celebrate Mother's Day for themselves as well.

I'm not insulting anyone I'm just asking a question, if a single dad did that I'd roll my eyes at that too.

You have insulted women. You had that pointed out to you by multiple people.

What were you hoping to get from this thread? Why are you so bothered by what other people you see on social media do?
