Why do single mothers always make fathers day about them??

You don't see single fathers jumping up and down shouting "happy mothers day to all the single fathers fulfilling both roles"

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Because it's between the two of us, I don't post it on social media and shout it from the rooftops expecting some kind of recognition for my greatness.

Presumably you display the card? Why today? What have you seen? It is almost a year since father's day so surely nothing recent? Am I right in saying your post is in the run up to fathers day to let women know that as a man (and non parent that recieves his own congratulations on fathers day) that this is how you expect women to behave?

I agree with PPs though, I've never in my life seen a single mother actually do this.

they don't

My wife and I send each other "from the Dog" Fathers/Mothers day cards - what's wrong with that?

Because you are not a dog mother or father unless you are a dog yourself. Having a pet s nothing like having a child.

Aside from the glaringly obvious that it's single mother's who are more likely to be fulfilling both roles, if single father's aren't making Mother's Day about them then what on earth has that got to do with the women who do wish to celebrate both?

No one's stopping them!

You'll be asking when International Men's Day is next!

LOL, I don't have a crazy-ex - I met my wife at 19 she's the only relationship I've had, I just see loads of SAHMs do this every year and it winds me up, I've not once seen a man do the same, granted the ration to single mothers I know to single fathers I know strongly favours single mothers but still.

I don't really think you do luv.

You’re not a father and are spending time on the Parenting section in Mumsnet telling single mums off?

OK.

I'm a single mother, I know plenty of single mothers and no one does that.

I'm referring to social media mostly, it's always the ones that have made a "career" out of it - IE stay at homes mums on benefits.

I know several single dads and I've never known one do the reverse.

🤣 I alway find this strange , a mother can’t be a father? we have Mother’s Day . Even if the father isn’t around you are still a mother .

Rooroobear · 08/06/2026 15:13

Ahhhh I think we’ve upset him. He’s not been back for a while. Please everyone remember to be kind. Even to little boys 😴

Daisy12Maisie · 08/06/2026 15:15

I’m a single mum. I’ve never made Father’s Day about me. Every Father’s Day I send my children’s dad a card and a gift from them even though he doesn’t have much to do with them. We don’t make a big deal of mother’s day in my house. We make a big deal out of birthdays but that’s it really.
I do understand the sentiment though that if mums are doing both jobs or dads are doing both jobs then if they want to celebrate why not.

And I always use mother's day as an excuse to buy myself a present!

teenagedirtbag1990 · 08/06/2026 15:21

If the parent doing 2 jobs why can’t she be awarded on both days?

Because you're not the dog's parents?

Symbolically, if it needs to be completely literal, step & foster parents should be excluded too.

Because it's lame as Hell, and just screams "look at me I'm a single mother aren't I great!" - as I said you never see single dads doing that.

Hats off to them if they did same in mothers day. Not easy being a single parent no matter if you a mum or dad.
My sons dad did absolutely nothing.
I could have cut him off etc but im better than that

zanahoria · 08/06/2026 15:22

I have known quite a few single mothers, never noticed this at all

Seriously, fuck off. Buying a dog is not the same as being a foster parent.

NiftyKoala · 08/06/2026 15:23

What an odd post. Comes across bitter.

Pistachiocake · 08/06/2026 15:23

They don't, not the ones I know anyway. They enjoy mothers' day and on father's day might do nothing, or take flowers to the grave in one case, but none make it about themselves.
