Forgot to say, your child does need to be receiving higher or middle rate care

Hi all, messaging as I sit 45 minutes into waiting on hold to speak to bloody DWP!

I've been claiming, awarded at mid-rate for 3 years for my child. Got the 'you must claim again' paperwork at Christmas, sent everything off first week of January. Needs have increased, had even more evidence this time. Got an acknowledgment of the paperwork being received a few weeks back.

Now I've had a letter today saying thank you for my communication in January asking me to look at the claim again, it'll be another 12 weeks. I didn't ask them to look at my claim again! That was my paperwork submission, and I've not had a bloody decision!

In the interim my (pitiful!) Carers Allowance is being stopped too because the existing DLA claim expires this week!

I can't wait another 12 weeks - we rely on that money for so many things!

As I said I'm in the phone to them now but is there another way of reaching them? I've actually been trying to ring them for weeks anyway to find out what's going on and I've never got through (usually have to give up after an hour or so because y'know im a carer with a child that needs a huge amount of attention night and day!!)

It's disgraceful!

Sas1410 · 05/04/2023 13:47

That's not good, my renewal was looked at 2 days before it ended so I can't advise if they can look sooner I'm sorry but I always find if you call at 9 it's easier to get through although I know its not always that easy when juggling kids and life, hope they can sort it for you x

Hello! Just thought I'd post here for some info/reassurance, if that's ok.

I received a letter today stating they got my form on 2nd March- a couple of weeks after I posted it! Current claim ends on Friday (day before DS' birthday) 😳 Next payment, if following old schedule, would be due on 19 April.

Any ideas where this would leave us?

I think we have a stronger case than before, as DS now has diagnoses of both autism & ADHD & also slow handwriting speed evidence. Plus multiple letters from connected appointments & assessments. We didn't have any official diagnosis before.

Really hoping the wait won't be too long as we need the money! Am I right in thinking it would be backdated to the date they received the form?

Thanks & good luck to everyone! It is one of the most soul-destroying things I have to do as a SEN mum 😥

confusedofengland · 05/04/2023 14:52

Forgot to add he does have an EHCP in place & has done since Reception year. I included a copy of the latest stuff in my renewal application.

Sarahc91 · 06/04/2023 08:38

My daughters claim is at 11 weeks today from scan date I feel we are now getting at the end of the road hopefully she doesn't get a decline after this long road 🤞

Mumof3wonderfullySEN · 06/04/2023 17:15

@Sarahc91 Me too! Although I think I am on week 12. Not sure anymore. Scan date 13th Jan.

Good luck! X

I’ve just sent off our MR today. A 5 page letter to state why I disagree with their decision, a letter from their childminder, CAMHS referral & the intervention sessions she is having at school. (Although school have been so unhelpful) we recently had a meeting and they stated that because she isn’t disruptive during school that they will not even consider to apply for an EHCP etc. Even though her teacher said she’s started to fall behind academically. They did however put in a referral to the sleep clinic and I have a first appointment on Wednesday! So that was super fast.
Good luck to those of you waiting!! It’s the worst wait ever.

I don't know if this helps but the school refused to do an EHCP for our son for the same reasons so I did the referral myself LA have agreed to assess and we are waiting on an OT and SALT assessment then LA will make a decision. Hard work but it worked.

Mumof3wonderfullySEN · 11/04/2023 11:26

Just for anyone who may be following.

My scan date was 13th January.
I rang today and the lovely many on the end of the phone said my daughters decision was made 8th April and she had been awarded HRC LRM and payment due this week.

Joshee · 11/04/2023 14:37

Congratulations, my daughters scan date is 25th jan, hope we receive some Positive news soon also :)

user1469775378 · 11/04/2023 14:50

Our paperwork was scanned 9th and January and I called today and he's been awarded MRC on the 5th April.

I have a query regarding length of time received for though please. He's 15 months old, has albinism and nystagmus and as such has a vision impairment, and has been awarded for two years, but due to when I put the forms in that will be just before he is 3. I do not think he would get HRM anyway, so I wondered if I'm able to do a MR for the award length as he is unlikely to be any safer in the things I spoke about come then - if anything he'll likely need more support but I could then just do a change of circumstance if that was the case. Will I continue getting payments if I do the MR (still waiting for back pay/first one) and is there a risk of losing the claim altogether!? I just feel like we have it now for less than 2 years and then have to go through all the stress we just went through, again!

Thankyou :)

Mommax3 · 11/04/2023 14:56

@user1469775378 i honestly wouldn’t risk it. It seems it is very much dependent on whomever you get assessing your paperwork and at some point or another a renewal will need to be done. It has likely been done to tie in with mobility.
However if you feel you want to try for HRC then absolutely go for it! It would mean another drawn out wait for a response. I’m clueless as to how long MR’s are taking. I’m just on hold with them now to check they received our additional documents I sent.

user1469775378 · 11/04/2023 15:02

It's not even I want HRM for him, it's just the length of award! Also his renewal is just before he is 3 so I don't think I could go for mobility then anyway?
I know what you mean though, don't want to risk it all either 😩

Good luck to you! If you're able to, calling bang on 9 got me through with 20 mins!

Mumto2sengirlsxx · 11/04/2023 16:41

Hi everyone so im about nearly 9 weeks waiting for my daughters dla claim to be looked at. I sent off evidence of application for EHCP plan at the council but i got emailed today her EHCP plan has been offically approved do i call dla and let them know this before they look at her claim?

Joshee · 11/04/2023 16:46

Yes tell them, the echp has a huge impact, good luck

Mumto2sengirlsxx · 11/04/2023 17:42

@Joshee thank you, do i just call and tell them and they will add it to her form manually?

Joshee · 11/04/2023 17:53

Yes, they might want a copy of the final accepted plan so keep it handy :)

anon90210 · 11/04/2023 17:54

I've been waiting 4 months since putting a dds application in.

Mumto2sengirlsxx · 11/04/2023 18:11

@Joshee ah right ok its all done online via the council hub so im not able to print it off right now hopefully if i explain that to them they can contact the centre or something themselves to confirm... ill give them a call tomorrow and see what they say i know it will be a massive help but hoping it wouldnt delay the claim being looked at.

Joshee · 11/04/2023 19:16

I sent off draft copy with application then informed while waiting for assessment that plan is finalised and accepted, they requested that I sent off the completed plan also, had many texts to say we are looking at your claim but no decision as yet haha

Mumto2sengirlsxx · 11/04/2023 22:22

Ah right to be honest head of sen at the school probably would print off what she could for me but with it being the school holidays id have to wait till next week... when was your scan date?

Joshee · 12/04/2023 09:56

My scan date is 25th jan, claims recent have taken 86 and 85 days to process, I’m on day 75 haha :L

Mumto2sengirlsxx · 12/04/2023 13:56

@Joshee ah dear ive read loads about their waiting times being long at the moment..

Ive just got the letter out that i received off dla when they scanned the application out for the reference so i can call regarding the EHCP and literally just noticed that theyve spelt my daughters first name wrong. Theyve put a i next to the L which is why i probably didnt notice it at first if i tell them on the phone am i going to have to start the whole claim from fresh? 😔

Mumto2sengirlsxx · 12/04/2023 13:57

I know we didnt spell her name wrong cause the head of sen filled my forms out and i finished off little bits left and i checked it 10 times before sending it and her name was defo spelt correctly all through the form!
