Is this a ridiculous name?

We have twin girls due in a few weeks time and are stumped on a name for baby B.
Our name for baby A is Quinn and the names of our other kids are Arabella, Felix and Hugo.
For baby B we've been deciding between Audrey, Eloise and Pippa.

However, the point of this question is to ask, do you think Pippilotta or Pippalotta is a ridiculous name? If we use Pippa, we'd like it to be as a nickname, but aren't fans of the traditional Philippa. So, would Pippilotta or Pippalotta work, or alternatively Ophelia or Josephine with Pippa as a nickname?

Please don't hesitate to share your feedback. I don't want to give my child a ridiculous name and fear that pregnancy hormones have clouded my judgement!

Quinn still looks like Quim though :)

NotSeenBulling · 18/03/2021 18:34

Pippa is an abbreviation of Phillipa isn't it?

A few people have said that but we're set on it and won't be changing. It's popular enough (especially in the US where we're from and will be moving back to in 3 years when my husbands contract is up) that people will know what we're saying, particularly in New York.

It is! We were hoping to find something else as a full name, perhaps Ophelia? We know a little Pippa who is actually an Ophelia, so the inspiration came from there.

I have an unusual name, with a shorter version which is very standard. My parents thought I could always go by my nickname and nobody would really need to know my real full name unless I wanted to tell them.

Wrong! Schools will register you in your full name and then use it at registration. All doctor's appointments involve somebody shouting your stupid full name across a crowded waiting area, probably mispronouncing it. When I turned up for my driving test the person at reception actually laughed when I said my name.

So, if you like Pippa, go with that.

Just one thing - Quinn is a boys name. As your other kids have ordinary if a bit posh names, why lumber they twins with weird ones?

SleepingStandingUp · 18/03/2021 18:38

Honestly I ne we knew what quim was until FB, I honestly don't believe that most adults will think of that when seeing your daughter and kids won't have a clue.

Good luck with the twins

In the US, Quinn is much more common as a girls name (top 100) than it is a boys name, and isn't considered 'weird' at all. Interesting to see the UK vs US perspective on it though!

What is it with names on MN the last day or so? In the last 24 hours, I've seen debates on Kiaora, Harmonica and now Pippilotta

EvilOnion · 18/03/2021 18:42

@twinmama2021 I'm in the UK and only ever met 2 Quinn's - both female!

I've always thought it was a unisex name. Not weird at all

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 18/03/2021 18:42

Lotte or Lotta is nice.

Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 18/03/2021 18:42

I LOVE Josephine but that might be more controversial with others

Roszie · 18/03/2021 18:42

What about Philippina or Penelope. Nn pippa

fairydustandpixies · 18/03/2021 18:44

Yes! Ophelia would be beautiful. But the pipette name...no. Just no!

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 18:44

At this point, I think we're leaning towards Audrey as we just feel Pippa is too nicknamey and using Ophelia as the full name is proving a little controversial!

Still giggling at pippalotta

I'm Lottie so that's not on the cards for us but Lotta (Carlotta) is a name I absolutely love!

I think you need something a bit more unisex to go with Quinn; it seems a bit like you wanted her to be a boy if she’s got a masculine name compared to fluffy girly names like Arabella and Eloise.

Haha, Quinn is a very girly name in the US and that's where we're from and where the kids will be raised (for the most part).

The names we're considering for twin B are
Eloise
Audrey
Ophelia nn Pippa

Audrey and Pippa.

I would feel hard done by if I got saddled with Quinn and my sister got any of the three names suggested (sorry).

helpmum2003 · 18/03/2021 18:51

I think Quinn and Audrey sound great together with Ophelia a close second.

Personally I wouldn't waste too much energy on how much they match the other siblings. All 5 will have gorgeous names now Pippalotta is off the list!!

Superstardjs · 18/03/2021 18:52

I like Audrey a lot.
None of your twin B names are in a similar vein to Quinn, they are more like the names of your older dc. I note it is a family name and an absolute, so maybe the other twin needs something more similar.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 18/03/2021 18:53

Pippa is lovely, pippalotta not so much...
Eloise and audrey also beautiful. I like Quinn. Although if I had 5 children I'd use it for the 5th child and not the 4th as "quin" pertains to the number 5.

DingBat101 · 18/03/2021 18:53

Prudence... Could be shortened to Pru or Pippa
