Is this a ridiculous name?

We have twin girls due in a few weeks time and are stumped on a name for baby B.
Our name for baby A is Quinn and the names of our other kids are Arabella, Felix and Hugo.
For baby B we've been deciding between Audrey, Eloise and Pippa.

However, the point of this question is to ask, do you think Pippilotta or Pippalotta is a ridiculous name? If we use Pippa, we'd like it to be as a nickname, but aren't fans of the traditional Philippa. So, would Pippilotta or Pippalotta work, or alternatively Ophelia or Josephine with Pippa as a nickname?

Please don't hesitate to share your feedback. I don't want to give my child a ridiculous name and fear that pregnancy hormones have clouded my judgement!

@Maggie900

Audrey and Pippa.

I would feel hard done by if I got saddled with Quinn and my sister got any of the three names suggested (sorry).

No worries! Glad to hear your opinion. Quinn is a very popular and common name in the US so I'm not too worried about Brits not liking it. We love it and aren't changing our minds :)

Sorry, but you’re trying way too hard. Pippalotta is dreadful and Quinn is awful too. Your kids, your choice though 😣

brogo · 18/03/2021 18:54

I think Audrey and Quinn go really well together. Pippa is fine on its own in my opinion . Congratulations op .

Good for you!

I’m sure my children’s names would get some comments too.

Thanks! We weren't looking for feedback on Quinn.

I dont think Audrey goes with Quinn at all.Its too old fashioned.

How about Aubrey, Summer, Emmie, or Harper,

Number3BigCupOfTea · 18/03/2021 18:57

You have to be joking!
What about Kim?
It's strong sounding but less.... odd. Quinn is a sur name that i associate with supermarkets

Pippalotta sounds like something you attach to a bunsen burner.

Pippa and Kim sound unusual and modern though.

RandomGrammarPun · 18/03/2021 18:58

The US connection changes things a lot, especially if you're moving back.

Quinn, to English ears, is just not in the same style as your other dc's names. It's a much more modern, much less classic or posh. "

But with the extra info, and you're definitelynlt changing your mind, I think Audrey is your best bet as a pairing, secondly Ophelia... Not Eloise. Much too wet compared to the hard sound of Quinn.

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 18:59

Thanks for the responses everyone, we've settled on Audrey & Quinn. Thanks for all the feedback though - very helpful! I'm sure we'll look back on this thread in a year and be so thankful we didn't go with Pippilotta haha.
Audrey & Quinn they will be :)

Classic sounding names to go with Quinn -
Ivy
Iris
Matilda nn Tilly
Ophelia is lovely but I don't think pippa works as a nn, more likely Leah/lia
Grace
Charlotte nn Lottie

I think as Quinn is slightly more modern, Audrey is too old fashioned with your other names. All your other names are more modern than old fashioned i think! They sound classic for sure, but I don't associate them with the same era as Audrey.

RandomGrammarPun · 18/03/2021 19:01

I like that, OP.

Audrey has a vintage vibe and shortens nicely to Aude, as a nice one syllable match with Quinn (which might not be to my taste, but is much nicer than Kim, pp!)

GameSetMatch · 18/03/2021 19:01

Pippalotta sounds like a sausage it’s really silly and sounds made up. I love the name Audrey it’s a family name and if I was to have a girl I’d name her Audrey ( I won’t have a girl though I’ve two boys and that’s enough for me)

Isn't it soo interesting, the difference in cultures? If you look at this website (social security administration is where births are registered), you'll see that Pippa has never ever been in the top thousand names in the US, but in the UK it's much more common! Quinn (which is considered quite girly in the US) has been top hundred for the last six years!

I see you've now made your decision so I don't feel bad telling you my first thought on pippilotta was 'sounds a bit too much like chickaletta...'

SwanDaisySwan · 18/03/2021 19:02

I like Quinn and Pippa. I would never think of Pippa being a nickname for Ophelia. I agree that Quinn and Pippa don’t match the style of your other children but I don’t think that matters as they are all nice names in their own right.

Vodkabulary · 18/03/2021 19:03

Lovely choices! Audrey would have been my choice.

I know two Quinn’s (U.K. based here!) on is a girl and one a boy. Also seen it in lots of books
So not sure why all the opinions 🙄

Yes, ridiculous name and the others don't lend themselves to being Pippa at weekends.

I think when they're all listed together Arabella, Felix, Hugo, Quinn & Audrey they flow quite nicely. What do you think?

Audrey is a lovely name, especially if you return to New York where the most famous Audrey liked to breakfast Wink so great choice to go with Quinn.

pigglepot · 18/03/2021 19:08

@twinmama2021

Some name suggestions for you:

Florence
Flora
Penelope
Isla
Ada
Rose
Cecily
Emmeline
Tabitha
Margot
Ottilie
Elsie
Dorothy

I love Quinn but I think of it as a boys name and I'm not sure it really goes with your other names which are very classic.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 18/03/2021 19:08

@TeckanandMultra

Quinn still looks like Quim though :)
This thread is the first time I have ever read or heard the word quim, I've had to Google what it means. If nobody I know has ever used it, and I've managed not to see it online until now, I imagine many adults won't have ever heard of it either so it won't be a problem.

We've decided on Audrey now but I just wanted to say that we loved both Margot and Ottilie! However Ottilie in an American accent doesn't sound as charming as it does in a British accent, and Margot (my middle name!) sounds too similar to our son Hugo.
We also loved Isla but far too popular in the UK and quickly rising in the US unfortunately :(
Fab suggestions though!

We have very similar taste in names! Let's put Pippalotta down to hormones though eh Wink

Koolandorthegang · 18/03/2021 19:13

Hi OP,

We seem to have very similar taste in names. Me and DP have a Quinn already and we like Felix for a boy and Eloise for a girl.

I love Ophelia nn Pippa and Audrey from your list. Some other girls names we like that you may like based on our similar taste:

Stella
Louisa
Dylan
Olivia
