Is this a ridiculous name?

We have twin girls due in a few weeks time and are stumped on a name for baby B.
Our name for baby A is Quinn and the names of our other kids are Arabella, Felix and Hugo.
For baby B we've been deciding between Audrey, Eloise and Pippa.

However, the point of this question is to ask, do you think Pippilotta or Pippalotta is a ridiculous name? If we use Pippa, we'd like it to be as a nickname, but aren't fans of the traditional Philippa. So, would Pippilotta or Pippalotta work, or alternatively Ophelia or Josephine with Pippa as a nickname?

Please don't hesitate to share your feedback. I don't want to give my child a ridiculous name and fear that pregnancy hormones have clouded my judgement!

All 5 names are lovely when you put them together OP! Your 3 eldest with Quinn and Audrey, as per your most recent update Smile

People on MN need to RTFT understand there are other cultures and countries, and international families who name their children something that A) reflects their heritage and B) works well everywhere. The fact that Pippa is easily recognised in the UK doesn’t help the OP, whose child will grow up elsewhere, where Pippa is not popular and might not feel like a full name. There is a magic ‘see all’ button that means the OP could avoid repeating herself Grin

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 19:31

@CovidHalloween

Peppa and Eloise. The rest need to go especially Quinn and pippilotta. Please don’t call her pipi.
Thanks for your message. We've already settled on Audrey & Quinn for the girls, and Quinn isn't/was never up for debate :) It's a top 100 girls name in the US so I guess most Americans disagree with you haha

It also occurs to me that in handwriting the name Quinn in a rush, it is entirely feasible that it could be misread as Quim.
Classy.

OP! You have given me my first laugh all day, but you CANNOT be serious.

Pippa short for Josephine or Ophelia is fine, I know a Penelope who is Pippa, Phyllida or Phyllis or Philomena would all work - Persephone or Perdita would if you wanted them to. Pippa isn’t ideal as a nn I agree as it’s quite nick-namey generally and especially compared to your other names.

Not sure about Quinn either since we’re here - it’s an odd name for a girl, and sounds like quim. Could it be a second name, but give her something more conventional as a first?

The names of your other children are lovely, and Pippa is a great nn.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 18/03/2021 19:32

Well, the first thought I had on reading this thread was

Quinn = Quim = you can't call a baby that!

Georgyporky · 18/03/2021 19:32

Quinn looks like quim. You could her cunt instead.

Wrennie24 · 18/03/2021 19:32

How about Aubrey instead of Audrey. Goes nicely with Quinn.

Wife2b · 18/03/2021 19:32

Quinn and Pippa are lovely.

I don’t get Ophelia from Pippa at all.

Some other suggestions...

Quinn and...

Lottie
Daphne
Fleur
Willow
Phoebe
Piper
River
Emmeline/Emmy
Evangaline/Evie
Pearl

Whenthesunshines · 18/03/2021 19:33

I know a Quinn!
He’s a boy!

Pippa is nice.

EileenGC · 18/03/2021 19:33

Ps I only know female Quinn’s. I think it’s a very nice name. In London no one would even bat an eyelid at Quinn. Somewhere where half the class is called Olivia, Emily or George, it might stand out.

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 19:33

@BreakfastClub80

I think you’ve decided but I would be careful of Eloise if you call your daughter Arabella, Bella? Most Eloise’s I know are shortened to Ella.

My other suggestion would be Edie, though I’m not sure if it’s short for anything.

Very interesting, all of the Eloise's I know don't have any nickname! Our Arabella is Belle, not Bella, but still quite similar to a potential Elle/Ella nickname for Eloise.

We've decided upon Audrey though, so Eloise is off the cards. Thanks for the response though, it's been great to see everyone's opinions!

ok, late to the thread and congrats on your twins! How about Quinn and Piper? Both a bit American, both short and snappy?

Doris86 · 18/03/2021 19:34

@MaidEdithofAragon

I think Ophelia known as Pippa works ok. Pippalotta is a no from me.
Why not just Pippa known as Pippa?
EileenGC · 18/03/2021 19:35

Well, the first thought I had on reading this thread was

Quinn = Quim = you can't call a baby that!

Except the OP has said about a million times this child will grow up mostly in the US. Where Quinn is a normal name and it won’t be associated with anything.

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 19:35

@user1493494961

Quinn isn't classic.
We haven't asked/don't want feedback on Quinn. We're set in stone on that one. Thanks though :)

I 100% think Ophelia would work with Pippa as a nickname. Ophelia and Quinn go lovely together!

SpeakingFranglais · 18/03/2021 19:35

I don’t care about the names. Indulge my curiosity. Who can afford five kids.Arabella, Felix, Hugo?

I’m overinvested, sounds idyllic.

Nameregretter · 18/03/2021 19:36

Glad you’re not using any of the ridiculous Pippa options. Audrey is nice.

Quinn is an Irish surname btw.

CityDweller · 18/03/2021 19:36

Ophelia has awful/tragic connotations (Hamlet). It is a nice name though. I like Pippa and Audrey.

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 19:36
@twinmama2021 Yes, I think so too. To me your existing children’s names sound typically English whereas Audrey and Quinn sound American - but seeing you are moving back to the US that’s quite a nice reflection of your family’s journey.
Oh how interesting! Audrey is actually much more common/popular here than in the US, despite the Audrey Hepburn connection (although she was actually European, I believe?!)

RootyT00t · 18/03/2021 19:37

OP is blatantly on the wind up 🤣

MagicSummer · 18/03/2021 19:38

What the hell does 'quim' mean?

PantherPantherus · 18/03/2021 19:38

In situations like this on MN, whether it be a question about neighbours parking, the Step-mum of the groom wearing a white dress at weddings, or anal sex at Centre Parc on a Friday evening, I ask of myself only one question: -

What would Audrey Hepburn do?

It does not feel right to ask "What would Pippilotta Hepburn do?"

So there is your answer. Only Audrey will do.

PantherPantherus · 18/03/2021 19:39

Dutch.

ancientgran · 18/03/2021 19:40

No don't use made up names it sounds awful. I can't get past Felix as that was my ginger tom for 19 years and we still miss him.

I think Josephine would be nice, it is quite unusual now and is one of those names that give loads of options for nicknames. Pippa would be fine also Jo or Josie. Just remember she might like the same nickname as you and at a certain point she might opt for something else, one of mine did that with a name I'd never thought of.
