i give in. i have been delaying potty training for a while now, ds is now taking his nappy off to do a wee, so as this week we are both on half term i am doing it. no going back. hopefully by this time next week he will be wearing the nice new pants he has picked out and telling me when he needs to go, but im scared. and clueless. i need tips and support and telling exactly what to do, and when to do it.

please help me.

afternoon.

Well I'm just going to draw a line under this morning. Was silly going out but dd1 desperate (and I was a bit too).

And all I can say for the fell n learn things is, shite. dd2 did not feel or learn.

Nap time here and then back into proper pants and focused training.

lissiethevampireslayer · 23/10/2007 15:02

lol, ds has just gone 2h without a wee. he's walked around tesco telling everyone he's wearing pants. just waiting for the mother of all accidents now!

I am really struggling.
Worrying that she isn't ready and I am being pushy mother.
Will keep going though at least for another day

Slubberdegullion · 23/10/2007 16:10

lissiethevampireslayer · 23/10/2007 16:21

just been pointed in the direction of this thread by bagpuss...thanks .

Today is even worse than yesterday and I feel like I can't do this any more...surely dd will eventualy "get it"..even if I leave her till she's 16 .?! feels that way.

Started yesterday and dd is 2.5 years. Yesterday every poo (x3) was done on the potty yet wee's ended in accidents. Today she has had x1 poo on the potty with x4 wee accidents and x2 poo. . I don't shout when the accidents happen but just tell her im disapointed and to use the potty iykwim.

I constantly ask her if she wants a wee or poo and if no response I put her onto the potty. Several occasions she has poo'ed or wee'd next to the potty when I have walked out of the room as I thought maybe I should "leave her to it".

Thing is when she poo's she only does so whn I sit next to her etc.

She is rewarded with stickers and I have a reward chart on route.

I put her in knickers and nappies for afternoon and night sleeps.

What more can I do and someone please tell me it gets easier...

DS who is 8 months has just had major bowel surgery and atm im sick of poo......my home stinks of sh1t and im worn out.

tkband3 · 23/10/2007 18:35

Have just found this thread whilst looking for inspiration after 2 days of trying to train my DTs (who are 2.7). I equipped myself with a huge box of haribos from Costco, they chose their potties and some special knickers. We started well yesterday with DT1 weeing on the loo before she was even dressed, then several trickles in the potty each time they sat on it (every 15 minutes). But we were having lots of accidents as well - they'd quite often sit on the potty for 10 mins then stand up and almost immediately wee right next to it.

The afternoon was better than the morning, with DT1 managing a poo (after 2 lots of pooey knickers in the morning) and DT2 a big wee in the potty. But this morning we seemed to be back to square one. I did attempt a quick trip to get them weighed as it's half term so my only opportunity, but they both wee'd while we were there (not on the loo ).

DT1 has managed 2 big wees this afternoon, but DT2 has barely squeezed out a trickle - I'm just waiting for the flood from her, there must be a torrent inside her waiting to come out .

I'm going to give it one more day to see if there's any improvement and if not, then that'll be it till the Xmas holidays. DD1 has been staying with my mum for the last couple of days, but she's going to get mighty bored if we can't go anywhere because of this.

This is not doing my diet any good either . I like haribos too .

lissiethevampireslayer · 23/10/2007 18:58

hi both! god you are having a rough time. apparently it gets easier, just think: soon we will be able to leave the house without nappies, or toddler poo scenting the air....

no poo from ds, but no more accidents either. i am ever hopeful

TWINS.!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG.!!!!!!!!!!!!! I take my hat off to you....in your position I would be hiding under the couch... Its hard enough chasing one to poo & wee let alone 2. .

I agree, this is doing nowt for my plan to eat healthier and lose weight.........im consuming several glasses of wine a night.. .

Slubberdegullion · 23/10/2007 19:15

Hi shhhh and tkband3. If your child is ready then it does get easier. I remeber trainning dd1 and at 5.30 pm at the end of day 3 she had not done one single wee or poo in the potty. As the words "right that's it, I'm giving up, we'll do this again in 6 months" she sat and performed. By the end of the next day she was clean and dry.

So it's worth persisting. dd2 has until the end of friday and if we're not getting anywhere then We'll try again in the new year.

And yes, potty training and dieting do not mix .

bagpuss · 23/10/2007 19:16

Well, ds2 isn't constipated at all. He just likes to save it for when I'm out of the room and then go in his pants .

Other than that a pretty successful day apart from one small accident when he was tired and I was busy with lunch and couldn't help him. It was lucky he had some cloth trainers on (bought last week as I was feeling nervous) as we'd just been to the shops. He was very remorseful and delighted in producing wees in the right place for the rest of the afternoon .

shhh, glad you found us . You sound exhausted. If it is any consolation, ds1 was like that from what I remember and all of a sudden it just clicked but it did take a bit of perseverance.

Oh, have just thought of another training aid which has helped us, a book called "I want my potty" by Tony Ross. All three dcs have liked reading this and ds2 loves reciting bits of it back to me .

tkband3, have you thought about concentrating on one twin at a time? My friend sort of ended up doing this with her dts and it worked pretty well, although I guess it depends on whether one is showing more signs of being ready than another.

shhhh · 23/10/2007 19:35

bagpuss yes we have that book and dd loves it..!! even points to the pic of the princess on the potty and says "x" (her name lol..!)

So how do I know if dd is/isn't ready..[scratch head emoticon]

She will tell me when she wants to go and even when put on the potty doesn/doesn't go..varies really..and with poo's wants me to sit with her on the floor..? BUT she knows what shes doing iykwim...

Slubberdegullion · 23/10/2007 19:44

she sounds ready shhhh, if she knows what she's doing!

tkband3 · 23/10/2007 20:46

Oh yes, we have that book and love it too. Must remember to get it out tomorrow whilst they sitting on their potties .

bagpuss I had thought about just training one of the girls, but I'm not sure that one is 'readier' than the other. If they do start showing signs in that direction, then I'll definitely concentrate on one, but for now, I'll just keep plugging on. Slubber's story about her DD has given me hope .

lissiethevampireslayer · 24/10/2007 09:42

how is everyone now?

this morning i asked ds if he wanted a wee, he said "yes please mummy" pulled down his pyjama bottoms, sat on the potty wee'd (the biggest wee i have ever seen) then stood back up, pulled up his bottoms and led me into the kitchen for a sweetie. i'm so proud!

bet we'll have an horrendous day now tho. my best friend who i NEVER get to see is coming for the day with her 1yo dd N will be too concerned with protecting his trains!

shhhh, she sounds ready to me tbh, and theres no harm in trying!

tkband, agree its prob best to do both at once, i take my hat off to you tho!

slubber, maisie, bagpuss: how goes it?

OP posts:
lissiethevampireslayer · 24/10/2007 10:06

2 more wees! and he told me, sat on the potty, weed then stood back up! both times!

have we (dare i say it) turned a corner?

OP posts:
bagpuss · 24/10/2007 10:14

Hey Lissie! I told you he'd get it Well done

Going OK here today. Nearly managed to catch a poo on the toilet earlier but ds2 said he couldn't do it. Feel like we are slowly getting there though.

I have just packed away most of our cloth nappies which feels a bit odd. Now I just have enough to do night times and some training pants left.

Shhh, yes she sounds ready to me too .

tkband3 · 24/10/2007 12:12

Have had an awful morning. Started well enough with DT2 going on the loo upstairs (well just a trickle). We had some friends round because they are just getting sooo bored (and so am I), but of course then I and they were distracted - I kept forgetting to put them on the potty at regular intervals and when I did remember, they didn't want to, because they were having too much fun playing. DT1 has done 2 huge puddles and DT2 has just had a constant stream ( sorry) of soggy knickers, but no big puddles.

Am v. fed up and on verge of quitting. My capricorn stubbornness is making me keep going though . Will see how we get on the rest of the day.

tkband3 · 24/10/2007 12:12

forgot to add - nice one lissie. Sounds like your DS has really got the hang of it .
