madeleine mccann was not abducted because she was left in a hotel room

ok, i'm probably going to regret this - but i am dismayed to see the same old arguments coming up again and again about whether the mccann's were irresponsible to leave their children unsupervised in a hotel room.
it seems to be the same people posting too.
if they had taken her with them she could have still been abducted while running around while they were having their meal. i doubt they could have watched a 3yr old every second and she could have been snatched while out of sight, as happened to jamie bulger.

the person responsible is the one who abducted her, and if, sadly, it is anything to do with paedophilia, then all those people who support the industry in child porn by watching and paying for the stuff also bear some responsibility.

www.forsarah.com/html/sarahslaw.html perhaps we could all be doing something to try and stop it.

It doesnt really matter how it happend the fact is it has happened and is very sad and no matter how guilty we think these people are they just dont deserve what they are going through.

Songbird · 30/05/2007 13:29

Totally agree, and it does matter. It matters to the parents who are feeling hellish enough without everyone jumping on them saying its their fault.

Songbird · 30/05/2007 13:30

Totally agree with OP I mean.

furReal · 30/05/2007 13:43

disagree. The mccanns were due to travel back to the UK on the saturday, Madeleine was abducted on the Thursday night, so if she hadn't been left alone that would only have left the Friday to hopefully have an opportunity to snatch her. It's possible she might have been taken on the Friday but it's less likely than if she'd been left alone.

If the Mccanns hadn't left their children alone the chances are she would still be with them. I also find the fact they seem to be leaving their twins at every opportunity strange. What happens if Madeleine is never found. how much longer can they leave their other children for to go off round europe? What damage could this all be doing to them, when they grow up with the knowledge that their parents left them to go and look for their daughter who was never likely to be found.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2007 13:46

Actually, having now read the link, when I say "agree 100%" I exclude that Sarah's Law stuff.

archiesmummy · 30/05/2007 13:49

But if it hadn't been Madeleine it would have been someone else..

Ans, how can you ever stop looking for your baby? The twins are only small, I'm sure it won't damage them

gonnaneedabiggerboat · 30/05/2007 13:54

furreal - so what would you do in their situation - say oh well never mind I have two other beautiful children and not even bother trying to find her?

No you would want to let everine know that she is missing and if that means seeing a high profile figure (such as the Pope) that is guarenteed to get press coverage then you would do.

He left the twins last week to come home to sort stuff out, they left yesterday to go and meet the pope - that;s hardly leaving the twins at every oppurtunity.

Yes they ,ade a huge mistake - no one is disputing that, but are you and everyone else who thinks like you so perfect and have never ever made a mistake? Thats like saying a girl who gets drunk and wears a mini skirt deserves to get raped - highly wrong and offensive or if you leave your door unlocked you deserve to get burgled. The person at fault here is the abductor

nailpolish · 30/05/2007 13:57

why dont they take the twins with them to see the pope?

furReal · 30/05/2007 14:00

I disagree with that. You can't say that it would have been another child, because we simply don't know that. Maybe it would have, then again, maybe it wouldn't.

I understand that the Mccanns can't jusst stop looking, but they do also have two other children who need their parents. Maybe a day or two away from their parents won't damage them, but the mccanns can't keep this up indefinitely, and the twins can't spend the rest of their lives in a holiday apartment while their parents travel round the world looking for the child that might not even still be alive.

ScottishThistle · 30/05/2007 14:01

furReal, what are you talking about?

I'm sure the other children are with a much loved member of the family!

furReal · 30/05/2007 14:04

No I wouldn't stop looking but the twins still need to be considered. the twins are their children as well. Why can't they take them with them? They are a close family are they not?

wheresthehamster · 30/05/2007 14:05

It's fortunate in a way that the twins are so young and the family can stay together.

If the twins were say 7 or 8 or even older then one parent would have to be back in England with them, because it would be important to maintain their routine.

This way the McCanns can stay together, drawing strength from each other and cuddling their twins every day.

I really hope she's found soon.

nailpolish · 30/05/2007 14:06

i really dont understand why they are not taking the children to visit the pope with them

that millionaire guy (the one who owns topshop debenhams etc) is flying them in his private and jet and they are staying at the british consulates residence in rome so its not like they cant afford the seats or accomodation for the twins

furReal · 30/05/2007 14:08

I don't understand it either nailpolish. In fact i find it very odd and i don't think that the fact their other children are so blatantly left behind is going to do much for their close family image.

expatinscotland · 30/05/2007 14:08

'why dont they take the twins with them to see the pope? '

Mrs McCann said it was because they were too young. So they were left in the care of relatives.

noddyholder · 30/05/2007 14:10

If one of your children had been abducted I would have thought you wouldn't be able to let the others out of your sight.

nailpolish · 30/05/2007 14:11

i have 2 dds - one same age as Madeleine another the same age as the twins and i cant imagine leaving little dd2 behind on an overnight trip

but they must have their reasons

nailpolish · 30/05/2007 14:11

too young for waht exactly? a trip to rome?

expatinscotland · 30/05/2007 14:13

Obviously not too young to be left alone in a ground floor apartment at night . . .

There, I wrote it.

Now everyone jump all over me!

I think it would disrupt the routine they (the twins) have too much. It will obviously be a very emotional time as well, which the twins could find distressing. I think they've done the right thing leaving them with trusted family members.

archiesmummy · 30/05/2007 14:15

furReal, they are hardly travelling "around the world"

expatinscotland · 30/05/2007 14:15

Here's their comment regarding leaving the twins' in Portugal.
