I am a single parent, two DC's at home, 2 at uni themselves.

Going into 2nd year and starting to panic about how I'm going to juggle everything Smile

Anyone else?

Oh yeah how dare we better ourselves and aim for better prospects for our kids and ourselves.
Mine is constantly amazed that i haven't given up,"it's going to take you years", "there's no jobs-you'll be too old"
I'm 32!

Ah well they are ex for a reason. I just suck it up and add to the rage furnace bubbling within!

stabbystabbykillkill · 18/09/2011 14:26

Missmogwi - you're only a baby lol I'm 41 (nearly 42)

I too was told I'd never stick it and I know he hates that I'm doing it - there's been a couple of times he's spouted crap and I've said no actually legally the way it works is ...... and he's argued back at me and I've said "What degree am I doing? I know what I am talking about" and his face is a picture.

And breathe lol

You will all be fine and do fantastically!! I gave up work and went to uni after my divorce when i was 30 with a 4 year old ds... I was determined to do it and spent evenings after bedtime studying... I also became a student rep and guider at uni (paid in book tokens!!) and registered with a healthcare agency so that i could work shifts when ds was at his dads (at pretty much minimum wage but it got out out and gave me experience etc)....

I came out with a 2:1, gave the valedictory speech... Went back to do my masters (funded! Yay!) and am now about 6 months from the end of my phd!!

I got together with my new dh during my masters and we are married now and had my dd during my phd and thats great but to be totally honest, it was easier to sort myself and my studying out when i was a lone parent!!

Stick with it, you are setting yourselves up well for life and giving your kids a great role model!!

Swallowedafly you know you can still claim tax credits on top of your studentship as it is not taxable income? This is how I have survived the last 4 years of funded Masters and PhD. I'm now in my 4th PhD year (writing up) but no more funding so having to work. Very lucky to have secured some hourly paid teaching cover for this term but don't know how I will fit in PhD as well. And DC too... My favourite phrase of the moment is 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it' Grin

MetalSian · 20/09/2011 09:30

Yesterday was good thanks =].
Was only there for two hours in the end.
But that gave DS time to have his last settling in session at the onsite college nursery.
The hell starts next week though... have to be up in time to walk 15 mins to catch the 7.36 train.

Keep telling myself its only one day a week xD.

swallowedAfly · 20/09/2011 11:11

yeah i know socy - just that because it's untaxable income i presume i can't get wtc and childcare help, just the ctc i get now.

anyway still all hypothetical as no word from uni.

swallowedAfly · 20/09/2011 11:35

atwarover - good luck with the home stretch!

missmogwi · 21/09/2011 10:47

Has everyone who has gone back to Uni had a good week?

Not back until Friday myself, so getting my fill of This Morning and lazing about while I can Smile

stabbystabbykillkill · 21/09/2011 17:11

MissM I was in yesterday and today doing meetngreets and stuff - go back properly on Monday

BUT....

(wail alert)

We do our proposal for our dissertations tail end of this year and I had spoken to one of the lecturers about what I wanted to do, and he was going to help me out with it (it's his area)

And

WAIL

He's got his dream job and decided to take it

OP posts:
missmogwi · 21/09/2011 17:18

How very dare he!
Oh no I'd be feeling the same. Is he going miles away? Could you meet up or could he help you via email? Or is he leaving and that's that.

stabbystabbykillkill · 21/09/2011 17:20

He said he'd help via email but he's going MILES and MILES AWAY TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY

I want to stamp my feet and have a tantrum like a 2 year old

OP posts:
missmogwi · 21/09/2011 17:40

Tut. What cheek. I bet you had to be grown up and say "oh fabulous, well done" when really you were thinking shit!
Can you change the subject? Maybe he can point you in direction of another topic?

We've got an induction meeting on Friday, then kicks off Monday. Can't wait to get back actually, bloody bored.

stabbystabbykillkill · 21/09/2011 17:56

I've had another idea but ohhhh BOLLOCKS

I'm the same - I was saying to the lecturers today I want back and into a routine

OP posts:
stabbystabbykillkill · 22/09/2011 08:40

So today's rant.

Student finance.

Need I say more?

Angry
OP posts:
missmogwi · 22/09/2011 08:56

What's happened?
Some last minute cock up on their part?

stabbystabbykillkill · 22/09/2011 09:02

Yes GRRRRR

My loan etc is due Monday but it's only showing as Approved not pending like it should be.

So I phoned them up.

They said uni hadn't confirmed my attendance.

Phoned uni. Uni say they sent it through this day last week.

Phoned them back.

They say no uni haven't sent it through and I won't get paid until they get it.

WHAT DO I DO NOW????

OP posts:
missmogwi · 22/09/2011 09:08

Shit.
How long does it take from when Uni confirm, could they do it again? Is it just you or other students too?

Is there a hardship fund or learning fund you can apply for until it comes in? I know that's not much help tho.

Things like this only happen when you're skint. Angry

stabbystabbykillkill · 22/09/2011 09:13

Just emailed uni telling them what Student Finance said and asked them what to do....

Angry
OP posts:
MetalSian · 22/09/2011 10:36

I hate Student Finance too.
They are messing me around with my childcare grant.. I don't even know if I will be getting any and now I have to fill ot more forms I still haven't recieved.

=[

I suppose I will just have to pay it until they sort themselves out.

Feel sorry for you though Stabby atleast @I have my grant and loans.
Hope it gets sorted quickly.

stabbystabbykillkill · 22/09/2011 10:39

My money will take up to a week
