Hello all!!

It has been a while since I've lurked over here, but DS has made his appearence now and we've started to use our stash of reusables.

I must admit I did have a slight feeling of panic when I put him in them but this has now faded.

The news is that itti bittis are hopelessly rubbish on him (leaks), bambooty (more leaks) are the same and quel surprise it seems to be that bumgenius may be the nappy for us.

I've not had him in the easyfits yet, but I suspect I'll get round to it tomorrow. I was also surprised that the bumgenius fit under all his newborn vests and babygrows. I thought they would be massive.

Has anyone heard of Monk bear nappies? My friend who is using reusables was singing their praises, I took a look at them and they seem to be a mix between itti bitti sio and cushie tushies.

mumface · 12/11/2010 20:14

Congratulations on your DS Hermya! Smile
No, I've never heard of Monk bear.
My niece gave birth to a little boy last night, so we are celebrating today Grin

Debs75 Are the liners fairly think like kitchen roll? In which case I think they're Ultra liners

Good morning ladies. Could I gently nudge you in this direction?

It is this thread:

The Mumsnet/EDCM nappies campaign: how's your primary care trust doing?

And this is how it begins:

As you might recall from this thread, back in August pressure from MNers and EDCM supporters resulted in David Cameron instructing the NHS Chief Executive to re-issue advice to primary care trusts, explaining that the provision of nappies for children with SN is supposed to be based on individual needs rather than arbitrary ceilings.

Now that a few months have gone by, we need your help to find out whether this advice has had any effect. Click here to send an email to your local PCT asking what action they have taken to put the guidelines into effect. Of course, you don't have to be the parent or carer of a child with SN to do this.

ziggyf · 17/11/2010 11:54

Done swampster x

Congrats Hermya! How are you getting on? Just had a quick look at Monk Bear nappies, look a bit like Fuzzis/Charlie bananas. Not sure if they are available in the UK though?

Weeeeellllll, tried wool again last night and no leaks yippee!! I put on a bambinex bamboo nappy + booster underneath an old style bamboozle and the nappy was damp by morning but obviously a lot less than before and the wool didn't leak at all. I'm like this > Grin I've ordered a WNNN so that I can avoid the double nappy palaver and might treat myself-- Z to a couple of Bedbugs or something similar.

HermyaAndThePomBears · 26/11/2010 15:15

Ziggy Apparently there is a stockist about an hour a way from me, I don't know if I'm a convert though. I think I'm sticking with my bumgenius, rumparooz and easyfits for the time being.

I went to my first nappucino today, it was very cool. I've never met so many clothie converts who were men. DH is quite unbothered by the whole thing, then again his reaction to the birth of our son was a smile and a 'cool'. So I expect I would go into shock if he started waxing lyrical about them to everyone he sees. His attitude is, we're saving money so go for it; which suits me.

ziggyf · 27/11/2010 11:39

my dh is the same hermya, he's just happy we're saving some money!

WNNN arrived this morning. it looks a bit small......

HermyaAndThePomBears · 27/11/2010 19:51

I have a leaky bumgenius, what do I do with the thing? I checked inside and the lining doesn't seem to have rubbed nor is there any gaps in the sitching.

Also DS vests were getting a bit damp around the legs, what is causing this? Is this wicking?

ziggyf · 27/11/2010 20:19

yep that's wicking - it's the reason I didn't get on with BGs to be honest, I found they always wicked round the legs and at the top. Unfortunately my beloved Easyfits have started doing this too :( You could try boosting them a bit more or experimenting with the rise but I've never found anything that's made any difference with BGs.

MrsDimples · 01/12/2010 18:06

Hi everyone, sorry I've not been around in AGES.

My only nappy news is some of the RumpARooz a friend brought over from the States in January, that delaminated were very promptly replace by Rumparooz, with photographic evidence Smile

I've ordered an Itti Tutto, but it's gone to my old address, so I'm not so patiently waiting to stroke it.

I'm loving my Bitti Boo & might have to get some more.

Is there a still a discount code for Bespoke Baby Room?

ziggyf · 02/12/2010 08:34

I think she's doing a free p&p code until Xmas, saw something about it on FB. Will check for you later x Will be interesting to know what you think of the Tutto. I'm not too keen on mine, it doesn't fit DS2 very well round the waist anymore and it's a bit of a faff to put together . On the plus side it does last for ages....

Have solved the Easyfit problem by putting a BG insert in to boost it. Gives DS a MASSIVE bum but at least we've had no more leaks!

Have also tried a Thirsties Duo wrap recently as he needed bigger wraps and the ME ones are too boring. Really impressed! They are reliable, pretty and best of all cheap Grin They are adjustable in the rise so last ages and they are only £8.75!

ziggyf · 02/12/2010 08:35

Sorry that sounded like a sales pitch! I do not, and never have, worked for Thirsties Grin

bagpuss · 02/12/2010 12:35

Hello everyone

We've been quite quiet on the nappy front really. I bought Tuttos which we like but do find difficult to put together too Blush. My BG prints came and I love the new poppers but the prints are not quite as I had thought - the green on the concrete jungle print is nearly white! Umm, the dts have gone up a size in wraps which might have meant more spending but I have heaps left over from ds2 so they are using those. Oh, I did buy some thirsties fab fitteds and some more wipes and some of their Booty Luster which is very good! Am trying to stick to just adding to the accessories (as I need Wink) now as we have enough nappies and I am mostly still satisfied with our stash.

Ziggy, we have duo wraps too - I think they are fantastic for the money and the colours are nice too!

MrsDimples, would be interested to know all about the Bitti Boo. We are using a lot of fitteds at the moment and I was feeling tempted (although I found some large sandys in the bag with the bigger wraps so am using them at the moment).

Congratulations Hermya Grin. Have you tried putting a thin bamboo booster (little lamb) in the bg under the insert? It might stop the wicking for now - newborns pee such a lot! Glad you are largely getting on with the nappies though Smile.

mumface · 02/12/2010 18:44

Hi everyone, I'm not keen on Tuttos, I've not really used my 3 since I got them but I am looking forward to the new print in Jan, which I had a preview of a the Babyshow they are funky.

Mrs Dimples- I also had to return a Rumparoo that delaminated they are fussy about having the evidence (which babybots kindly sorted out for me) aswell!

MrsDimples · 02/12/2010 19:43

My patience is minus ten on a scale of one to ten, so a few minutes after I posted that, above I ordered the Snugglepants. Saw the free postage, Woo Hoo Xmas Grin The pair I got R last year, she wore to toddler group on Wednesday & one of the Mum's came over & asked where I got them from so proud. I'd been planning to get some more & that just swung it Xmas Biscuit

Mumface I was expecting to have a battle with Rumpa.... , in fact I put off communicating with them for ages, as I couldn't face the hassle, turns out they were fab, (with me anyway), I explained the situation, said I'd happily send photo's & they were really cool about it. The new outers arrived really quickly. Can't believe I actually scored some decent customer service for a change does happy nappy dance Soooeee nice having a soft new nappy, strokes nappy to cheek

Bagpuss I love the Bitti Boo. I do wish I'd got another now. We currently use 3 TB's stretch bamboozle & the 1 Bitti Boo on rotation at night, I use n Aldi MF cloth on the bamboozle & a mini booster on the Boo & the Boo always does better. Not mention it is much, much prettier. I have forgotten to put a booster on, & it's still been great. All under wool. I am using a large & R is still in medium SIO's, but I use my large AIO on her too, (but only indoors).

No sign of my Tutto yet Xmas Hmm

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 02/12/2010 21:30

Bagpuss I found a random hemp insert I had and used that and it seems to have done the trick for now. I've also tried the bigger insert and there was no wicking. I'm going to get some real easy inserts to boost them as well. I just think my DS is a heavy wetter. Well I think he is judging by the state of the bamboozle I took off of him this afternoon. Which prints would you recomend, I'm going to be ordering some in the next couple of weeks.

I do love my nappies though and the sound I get when I pat his fluffy bottom. Sposies just don't cut it in that regard do they.

I also seem to have inadvertedly made some clothie converts. I had been raving all about my BG and my bargin hunting on Cloth nappy tree at my church coffee morning. The next thing I know I'm hunting around the classifieds and low and behold two of my friends were there buying nappies. Xmas Grin

Meita · 07/12/2010 10:26

Hi nappy ladies!

DS is 15 weeks old and we have been using Itty Tuttos for day and a variety of shaped nappies under wool for nights.

Can I ask you experts some simple questions?

a) My woolen soakers are hand-knit by a friend and they worked really well for a while, but recently everything is always sopping wet in the morning. I.e. nappy (we have one each: Motherease, Big Softie, Bamboozle, Minky), soaker, sleeping gown, sleeping bag. But only on the backside (DS sleeps on his back). So my question is: Is this a simple case of the soaker needing to be re-lanolised? Or of needing more boosting? Or a combination of the two? Any ideas why it used to work perfectly but doesn't anymore?

b) Can I wash my woollen soakers in the washing machine, woollens-programme? Or should I just rinse them? Can I use the rinse programme in the washing machine?

c) Our Tuttos have been fab, but again, recently we have been getting more and more leaks. I think DS is a heavy wetter - although he is still small, we need to use all inserts. Are the increasing leaks likely to be due to him peeing more, or is something going wrong with the nappies?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

mumface · 07/12/2010 18:44

Hi, Meita I am no wool expert but they do need to be re-lanolised every few weeks so it may well be this. If the nappy is totally saturated though try an extra booster aswell.

I would only hand wash them, I have heard people on here say they use their machine wool wash but I've washed a pair sized 2-3 years and they came out newborn sized.

As for the Tuttos. I am not a fan, although the Itti Bitti d'lish snap ins are my favourite nappy, can't get a good fit with the Tuttos. Maybe try different configurations of boosters or just having to change more frequently if he is a very heavy wetter. My boy is 18 months and a light wetter and he leaks at the tummy bit with them. It's just a case of some nappies suit different babies I suppose.

mumnerves · 07/12/2010 20:12

Hi everyone!

Hermya am just so Envy at you getting to try all your nappy stash, can't wait to use mine when LO finally arrives :)

ziggyf · 07/12/2010 20:25

Meita - make sure your nappies are well boosted if you are using wool wraps, they won't cope well if the nappies are very wet. I've just got a Weenotions Night Notion (proper night nappy)and have had no problems with leaking since I got it. On days when the WNNN is in the wash I use 2 Bamboozles, one on top of the other under lanolised wool longies - works like a dream Grin

I've always washed wool nappy covers by hand (only once every few weeks unless they get dirty) as the wool cycle on our machine seems to shrink everything! Takes no time to hand wash one or two pairs of longies or wraps and I'd rather do that than risk having to buy more.

As for the Tuttos, have you tried going up a size? Worked for me, although like mumface I struggle to get a good fit. Think my son is too skinny round the waist or too chunky round the thighs, I just can't get a snug fit. I agree, the snap-in-ones just seem to fit better.

Meita · 07/12/2010 21:51

Thanks mumface and ziggyf! Right now, my soakers are soaking in lanolin :) (though that raises a bit of a problem for tonight... Hmm and I'm ordering a load of extra boosters.

And going up a size with the Tutto, as well as using the hip popper, looks promising. But I want to have a few non-leaking goes before I'm convinced.

We did trial the Tutto before we got a whole set of them, and they worked just fine - it's only been recently that we've been getting many leaks. So might really be down to sizing.

So, thanks again!
And, would you ladies mind if I hang about a bit with you here? Looks like a friendly place :)

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 09/12/2010 13:58

Mumsnerves Oh gosh you'll love it, what kind did you get in the end?

DH let me buy some cloth nappies, I must admit I may have gone a little bit mad. I'm now on a self induced cloth nappy embargo (apart from one last one).

On the plus side, my DS looks very very cute. We're going down to the outlaws for Christmas and MIL said she would buy us some spoises for when we're there. DH has since asked me what would be the point in that as we have a pile of perfectly good nappies here. I'm now going to ring MIL to say that we'll just bring our cloth nappies down. Grin
