mumface and bagpuss thanks for your replies, this really has given me a good idea and hence lots more license to buy Wink as I currently have 20 for DS.

I use BG v3 as a OS and like it very much, it's looking far less bulky between the legs the more DS has grown. I don't really understand the virtues of the flip in comparison, prey tell...

bagpuss · 23/09/2010 22:00

You wipe and reuse the outer. You can just add a new insert if the old one is wet you see. Also, it is a little roomier than the V3. I also think that they are more leakproof because the inner and outer are separate and so there is less likelihood that anything will escape along the suedecloth liner and out of the legs like there sometimes can be with pockets.

Hello myjob! Glad the birthday celebrations went well! Which weehugger did you get?

joymaker · 24/09/2010 11:59

Thanks for explaining bagpuss.

when you say roomeir do you mean bigger in the rise?(could be good for my ds because at 5 months he is quite long and slim)

Are weehuggers, because they are sized better at containment than the flip?- I like the idea of just changing the insert Smile

Flips are soft and quite stretchy, I can get one comfortably on my 3.6 year old.

joymaker · 24/09/2010 14:35

wow mumface it sounds like a great buy and certainly birth to potty, I think that it's my duty to try one of these tooGrin

mumface · 24/09/2010 17:12

I think I've solved the Itti front wicking problem. Using the long insert at the back instead of the front with the mini booster and leaving off the smaller shaped insert. Means less absorbency and boosters are at the back- risky for a boy, but according to itti the smaller one is added for nights etc so will see if it lasts ok.

Hope that works too mumface Smile

Guys just when I think I've come to a decision, I realise there are even more choices down the line to make: on the flip should I go for the organic or staydry insert and which is more absorbent?

bagpuss · 25/09/2010 16:04

Organic are fab and very absorbent (one will last us about 4 hours +), staydry are better around the house I find as they will do us 3 hours but need changing promptly. I have 6 of each with 6 outers so I mix and match depending on what we are doing. I should add that the organic are rather like a glorified prefold and need folding into three and this makes them less slim. The fabric is really nice though, sort of like a tshirt and they stay quite soft.

joymaker · 26/09/2010 10:51

ohh that sounds ace bagpuss (actually in practice not unlike the itti inserts then). Shall defo get the organic.Smile

I don't quit get the flip disopsable function though as they are not readily available in the shops, as far as I can see, so one would have to order them online before say using them for travel(plus £3.98 for 18 does not seem very economical). I suppose they might be more reliable on the containment front because of the outer cover -I might be missing something- have you found any use for them?

My last question -promise!- would it be plauable to use bamboo terry towelling squares (I think the ones I have are 40x40) in the flip say when at home or would that be too bulky?

Many thanks to you all for sharing from your fountain of nappy knowledge, you really have saved me making a lot of expensive mistakes- on this thread and others!Grin

mumface · 27/09/2010 17:09

Loads of washing today, first Lewis's ME pants leak in the middle of the night had to change everything, then I get a phonecall whilst he's at nursery, he's pooed himself it's everywhere, we've put him in the bath can you come and collect him. Sad I had just got Connor to sleep for his nap aswell. Grr..
But then my silver and navy Itti SIO's came to cheer me up Smile Still not loving tutto's think I might sell them, but will I regret it if he changes shape. Does anyone else have Itti's all in same size that fit differently ie some of my larges do up with 1 popper space in middle, some are tighter with 2. And one's gone crinkly and has no gap. They are inconsistent with sizing.

bagpuss · 27/09/2010 20:15

Oh no mumface! Poor Lewis Sad

Yes, I have had some small ittis which were different which was actually OK because I just let dt1 wear them because she is smaller than dt2! Grin. My two mediums seem to be both the same though.

Joymaker, no I haven't used the dispo inserts - seems silly really as they are more expensive than actual dispos!

The terries would be fine I think. I know others who use the flip outers as wraps over shaped nappies and I'm sure the terries would be slimmer than that when pad folded.

I have paypal money building up and burning a hole in my pocket! It is destined for new car seats but dt1 is 4.5 lbs below the weight limit so it will be a while before we swap them both (dt2 is only 1 lb below!) gah, can I hold out or will I crack!

We have duo wraps. They are quite good but I sometimes find that they wick (mainly if I use with motherease nappies). The bindings are softer than ME though and the patterns are cute!

Not sure on car seats yet as it will very much depend on what fits our car! Really need to give it some consideration and then start feeding dt1 some lard so that she will be big enough Grin.

mumface · 28/09/2010 18:12

Not tried duo wraps but I have a Bummis super brite wrap which look similar and they are quite soft. Do you like nature babies wraps they have soft binding. I really want a tots cosmic wrap.

Hello,

sorry I've been a tad awol.

My LO is due in the next couple of weeks, I've given all the nappies a wash and now they're drying on the airer. I keep looking at them and thinking 'what the hell do I do with these?'

I am determined, although I think I will be asking a lot of questions to start with as I feel a bit clueless as to what to do.

Oh well, we all have to start somewhere. Grin

Just pop-ed in, am a lurker and have got a lot of tips from lots of you ( Hermya you're in good hands Wink ) so thank you!

I just wanted a rant really about a midwife at the hosp where I'll be giving birth so I hope that's ok...

Went for our first ante-natal class on monday and when asked about nappies to bring in, she mentioned reusables and said 'I haven't seen anyone bring these in for years and including the cost of laundering I don't think they are any cheaper and worth it, don't think people use them anymore anyway' ..... I had to keep my pregnant hot headed tongue shut or would have had a go at her.....

ok rant over, silly ignorant woman! Wish I was bringing my reusables in but have bought some disposables already for the first week or so..grr Angry

Hermya321 · 03/10/2010 12:39

Mumsnerves I had an antenatel class recently and the midwife there was a bit odd. She ranted about how birth plans were pointless and how she wouldn't tell a mechanic how to do their jobs. I would take it with a pinch of salt tbh. I'm planning to take disposables in to the hospital for the first few days just because of the first bowel movements.
