I dont know who needs to read this...but here i go.

Leggings, yes those thin, skin tight, tasteless, awful "trousers" as some dare to call them.
Have you seen your butt?
Im not shaming, laughing or otherwise. Im expressing opinion. Free speech and all that.
So, when you wear them with double wardrobe bum take a look on the backside, stomach. What is showing and hanging.
Women who started wearing them had butt to show off as they went to gym every day. Later it became trend and cheap way to cover skin.
You can still wear leggings, but be reasonable. Pick something that covers butt at least, doesn't show how far belly is hanging. Etc
We have normalised abnormalities. Why?

I’m a disgusting porkster so I wear leggings and long loose shirts to cover my blubber.

I’d welcome some fashion advice on what I should be wearing OP?

It doesn’t seem worth making any effort because I look gross in everything.

I bet you dont look as bad as you think x

Lilyhatesjaz · 22/11/2025 16:02

I go to the gym quite a bit so I wear leggings there even though I am a larger woman. I always wear a larger size than I would with other trousers to avoid them being see through.
I don't like the flesh coloured ones as it sometimes looks like they have nothing on. But people can wear what they like I don't care, personally though if I am going to wear leggings I want a bright colour

DuchessofStaffordshire · 22/11/2025 16:03

Hmmmm, I'm usually happy for people to wear what they feel comfortable in but, and I know I'll probably get slated, I tend to agree with op. My MIL is a larger lady and tends to opt for leggings. They tend to be quite see through to the extent that you can see what colour knickers she has on underneath, made worse by the fact she pairs them with standard length hoodies which sit above the hip. It's quite hard not to notice.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 22/11/2025 16:04

I wear a tunic with my leggings. It hides my bum and my gut and it's nobody else's business what I wear anyway.

ThatCyanCat · 22/11/2025 16:04

Yeah, I forgot, I do wear them to the gym, with oversize shirts. Absolutely hate it but it's all there is available and joggers just get too hot. I'm always sweaty, red-faced and frizzy-haired within five minutes anyway so they just go with the overall man-repellent aesthetic, which I like to think I have honed to perfection after many years of dedication to the art.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 22/11/2025 16:04

Think they are out of fashion aren’t they. So surveys won’t be appalled for much longer

shuggles · 22/11/2025 16:04

Is this not horrendously sexist?

GeorgeEdwardsMum · 22/11/2025 16:05

Do you feel better for getting that off your chest? I think it's only fair you post some photos of your perfect dress sense for us to judge some of your choices.
I wear leggings most days at this time of year. I neither go to the gym or have an arse that looks like I do. What I do have is a shitty size 0 body and a life limiting condition. It's about necessity, and probably is for many others too.

Love this response,made me laugh

‘Im not shaming, laughing or otherwise.‘

You are doing exactly this

purplehair1 · 22/11/2025 16:12

I don’t know what a wardrobe butt is but this sounds like a comment from a woman hating troll to me.

dynamiccactus · 22/11/2025 16:14

I was walking behind a group of women yesterday who were wearing tracksuit bottoms which were very unflattering even though they weren't fat.

And body shaming is only when you actually say something to the person.

However, it does prove my thought that this idea that nobody looks at you because they are obsessed with themselves is completely wrong! People absolutely do look, but whether they've remembered by the time they've got home is another matter. I only remembered because DH made a comment about unflattering tracksuit bottoms this morning.

The worst are the pink/skin colour ones which make you think someone is a naturist!

RaraRachael · 22/11/2025 07:48

How rude. I don't have a "butt" as I'm not American but my bum and stomach look perfectly fine when I wear leggings. I wear them a lot as they're comfortable. I always wear a long top with them.

Your figure must be absolutely perfect if you're describing other people's as abnormalities .

Your post made me lol. Such a quintessentially British response. "I don't have a "butt" because I'm not American..." I can picture you delivering that in a tone that would freeze at 20 paces.
Brava.

Wickedlittledancer · 22/11/2025 16:19

I’m not sure it’s size related. I really don’t think anyone should be wearing leggings with a short top out of the gym. I think there are much better clothing choices now, and just as comfy, you can look comfy, sexy, fit, whatever you choose, in other items of clothing, that are much more flattering.

I think the atheleisure look is done now, particularly leggings, with skinny jeans going out of fashion too. It’s not really a good look on anyone anymore.

Oh God, the thought of men in leggings is even worse!

I do wear leggings in the privacy of my own home or at the gym. No one needs to see my arse wobbling down the high street. So many people having no pride in their appearance these days. I'm with you OP.

When I see old pictures of my parents as young people I always think how smart they and their friends look. They might not have had two pennies to rub together and probably had a quarter of the clothes we all have today but they always made the best of themselves.

They’ll never be out of fashion- too cheap and comfortable !

eyeses · 22/11/2025 16:24

Leggings are soooooo comfortable, but I always wear long top and black knickers with them.
I do think most of the eyesores don't know how seethrough most leggings are, particularly when stretched by bending.

CherrieTomaties · 22/11/2025 16:26

Have you seen your butt?

Yeah, I have. And it looks great! Because I’m healthy and work my glutes.

OutOfCigarettes · 22/11/2025 16:27

See through leggings and crop tops do not look good on obese people…ever!

Leggings as trousers generally fine IMO, I can’t get worked up about it.

LlynTegid · 22/11/2025 16:28

Leggings don't have pockets.
Leggings make it easier to be in denial about weight gain. So less likely I expect to change something about lifestyle and more likely to end up with resultant health issues.

My reasons for thinking they are awful, whilst defending the option to choose to wear them if you wish.

I hate seeing men in jogging trousers with their bits flapping around. I don’t know where to look 😳

My sil does this, and she doesn’t wear underwear, she’s in her 60s. When she bends over, we can all see her arse crack, as the leggings stretch and go see through, and although she wears runic tops, obvs when she bends over they ride up and her arse is exposed. We all just quickly turn away. She’s a vile temper on her so no one says anything. She’s also very obese, which I think adds to the stretching issue. I’ve no idea why she never wears underwear, she’s never done so, I don’t know how it’s remotely comfy in jeans or trousers. But we can all see she doesn’t as we are treated to a view of her bare arse on the regular. I don’t think she knows how bad it is, but if you mentioned it she’d proper go off on you, as she does for any minor issue.

lifeonmars100 · 22/11/2025 16:31

Do you know what I think when I see someone wearing something that I personally wouldn't? I think this "not my body so nothing to do with me"

LouBBB · 22/11/2025 16:31

Oh bore off. I'll wear what I want, when I want and you can keep your opinions to yourself. No one made you the fashion police so please stop staring at my "butt" and take your weird outrage somewhere else.

Happyher · 22/11/2025 16:32

I agree with you OP it’s not a nice thing to see and would probably have been considered obscene to wander around like that when I was young. Do they never look in the mirror?? Long top or tunic is fine but we don’t want to see the contours of your arse and more
