You'll be the best ellbell, I'm sure.
Good luck with the essays, dh is exhausted.

Rosa · 30/05/2007 08:22

What a serata you Italiani ...Pippi hope you are fellingbetter and you as well med. A few nasty bugs going round ..All these high / low temps IMO.
I went to a press conefence at ENIT in LOndon once. Men were in suits ladies were smartish but not super posh . I wore trousers and top and was ok . I don't do heels anymore especially in Venice its stupid also I would be taller than DH !!
Buona giornata tutti

mediterraneo · 30/05/2007 09:46

I wonder if Pippi pulled herself together...
At a loss today, having to entertain ds who is not feeling too great himself, gloomy weather, school is shut. Help!!!

francagoestohollywood · 30/05/2007 09:52

Rosa, I've always wondered how you negotiate all those steps with the buggy... a friend of mine who lived in Venice for a few months told me that on long summer nights campi are full of children playing... sounds lovely, even if it's not the most comodo place to live.
gloomy weather here as well... ds at the moment is entertaining himself drawing "robin hood". dd is at nursery for the morning. I should do the ironing

francagoestohollywood · 30/05/2007 09:54

ps: ds manages to be extremely noisy even when he is drawing...

PippiLangstrump · 30/05/2007 09:54

buongiorno a tutte! mi sono persa una gran serata!

what did I say? That we almost finished packing? Dream on... packing books is fun, doing the kitchen is hell...

Ellbell, trousers, top and nice shoes: my uniform although lately I progressed to high heels (only when I can change into flats before I get into the door as soon as I get out of it)! otherwise I suggest a trip to zara, there's always something nice but easy to wear.

Med, I have a friend in barnet with 2 kids, arounf DD's age which is handy (think babysitting etc ), 5 min away. and that's about it really but more than I have here or anywhere else I used to live. All my friend live in different parts of london anyway.

My DD asked me to 'cui' il computer. see ya later.

francagoestohollywood · 30/05/2007 10:08

ciao pippi. coraggio with that boxes!
Need to get dressed and take ds a fare la spesa...

mediterraneo · 30/05/2007 10:12

E' buono che gia' conosci qualcuno a Barnet...
Sto pensando di fare un po' di shopping con ds...

WE HAVE EXCHANGED!!!!!!!! [relieved emoticon]!
MOVING TOMORROW!!! YUPPIE!!!

Rosa · 30/05/2007 13:07

Buggies and bridges is a bit of a nightmare. I had one buggy that was front and rear facing but it was 12 kg of buggy and was 2cm short of being able to do bridges frontwards. I then got a Peg Perego-Centro which means that I can go up bridges without having to pull them up with me walking up backwards if you know what I mean. I studied all the lengths!! I have just bought an Inglesina lightweight buggy which will mean lugging up backwards but dd will be walking over bridges shortly !!

I take dd out round 5 ish and we normally find cousins or other little ones in a few campi bolle di sapone are obligo! But as the winter has not been cold the zanzare come out round 7ish so we all tend to run for home by then.

Pippi can you get in your house for boxes ? It sounds like you are having sooo much fun !

Ellbell · 30/05/2007 13:46

Congratulations Pippi, and coraggio... it'll be over soon.

Rosa, where in Venice are you? I have a friend with a ds of c. 3yrs who lives in Dorsoduro. It's not an easy place to live, but there are compensations...

mediterraneo · 30/05/2007 14:31

I loved living in Venice, so odd to be in a city without cars.
Congratulazioni Pippi!

Hurrah Pippi thats great news finalmente... Hope you celebrate tonight ..as long as you have not packed the glasses!
I am in Cannaregio .Is your friend English Ellbell? Agree it has its good and bad points living here but I think its easier if you are nata qui. We were thinking of moving onto terraferma but having doubts .
Oh well off out for the giro now..dd is already waving at her toys saying tiao tiao ( sooo cute )

MaryP0p1 · 30/05/2007 16:49

Hey, I'm back, school reports finished for another year. My brain really hurts. I'm still finding writing in Italian horribly difficult. hey ho one day and all that.

Pippi how exciting, its all happening very quickly now.

Rosa maybe you mught find some english speaking kids in the area through one of these sites

www.italy.co.uk/forums/
www.expattalk.com

I'm in a similar situation in my house we always speak english because DS is only 5. Gradually in the last 2 years I've seen Italian becoming his preferred language. I think this will only get stronger in him. Because I teach English I know a few bilingual families and we do get togethers to help the children practice their language skills.

Goodness my grammar has gone to pot today, brain ache......

francagoestohollywood · 30/05/2007 17:10

Congratulations Pippi!
And well done marypop for finishing the reports , now you can enjoy the summer!
well, Italian is still my children's stronger language, but I've noticed that they also speak english to each other when they are playing. and the other day ds told me (in English) that he prefers to speak in english.
Cannaregio, that's where my firned was staying too. It's beautiful. I'm pretty sure you'll make some friends with some other mamme dell'asilo when dd will start. My mum was working when I was so little, but stopped when I was 7, and made friends with some mamme from my scuola elementare.

Ellbell · 30/05/2007 17:43

My friend is Italian, Rosa, though she teaches English (in Verona).

Good luck for tomorrow Pippi. In bocca al lupo!

PippiLangstrump · 31/05/2007 00:41

We have just finished packing and as you can imagine by looking at the time of this post we are knackered and exhausted. having someone pack for you is def money well spent!! DH and I must have said that a million and one time today with immense regret for not having done it. My back is killing me as well. I cannot believe how much c**p we have as well!! Oh well!
I am sad for not being sad at leaving this place where I spent few great years as a single gal before DH even existed.
I guess I am just soo excited to have more space, a park and a spare room for nonna/o/granny to stay.

I might not have internet connection for a while at home so I won't be able to chat to you lovely ladies as often. I'll do it from work so that you're updated regularly on the pippi household saga.

Thanks for you support girls and have a good weekend. Ellbell goodluck with your posh night out in Manchester.

PippiLangstrump · 31/05/2007 00:43

PS: Rosa we did pack the glasses but pippi drank wine by the bottle like the old days sitting on the living room floor and also had a cigarette indoors .

Ellbell · 31/05/2007 01:26

Brava Pippi... booze and fags... this is what house-moving does to you!

Oh, and the one time we did get people to pack for us it was a disaster. They broke LOADS.

Good luck for tomorrow. I will update you on my night out in Manchester! (Shopping tomorrow!)

Swoon! You speak Italian Califrau? We're off to Sardinia in a coupla weeks, have you ever been there?

Any handy phrases that might go down well? I am so looking forward to it.

Rosa · 01/06/2007 07:59

Quel c'uno ha un e mail per lei ? Poverina quanto mi dispiace. ho posted us l'altro thread ma sta mattina. Magari non lo vede neanche.

Kokesi wherabouts are you going in Sardinia ? Its a wonderful place , great beaches, lovely crystal clear sea and not to mention the mirto ( a wicked digestive drink that is very addictive!)

kokeshi · 01/06/2007 09:20

Buongiorno Rosa!

We're going to stay in my Friend's villa in a village called Cabras. I think it's quite close to Oristano.

I saw some pics of it for teh first time yesterday and I couldn't believe how beautiful it is.

Rosa · 01/06/2007 12:23

Can't say I know that area at all but Sardinia is lovely can get hot at times but I am sure you will have a lovely time
