seriously now, just forget it if it's going to be a problem... i must be able to get it on the interweb if not round the corner. SO sorry for hijacking this thread, ragazze!

kokeshi · 04/06/2007 20:17

Sorry Aitch I should have put a after that. It's no problem, really. I answer to no-one

francagoestohollywood · 04/06/2007 20:19

I'm nosy now? where do you live? .

Aitch · 04/06/2007 20:21

sunny glasgow, miss franca.

francagoestohollywood · 04/06/2007 20:29

you are too far away ! cause I have some limoncello

kokeshi · 04/06/2007 20:39

Aitch, how about we leave it as an informal arrangement at the mo and if you don't feel like meeting in person then no harm done eh? I'll buy a few bottles, which means I'll also have the gifts sorted for the parents.

Grazie Rosa and Mumsnet Little Italy!

Aitch · 04/06/2007 20:44

oh no, to paraphrase a memorable film quote... if you buy it, i will come.
i have limoncello, funnily enough, and fra angelico. tbh i don't drink, i just like the sweetie stickies...

francagoestohollywood · 04/06/2007 20:57

what the hell is fra angelico? mind you, I remember that in the late 80s my parents had a bottle of "amaro del carabiniere". One afternoon, I was probably 18, I tried to get drunk on it, after a (mildly) broken heart. But because my adolescence has never been too extreme, I gave up after two sips, and went back to study. Yes, I was that sad.

Aitch · 04/06/2007 21:58

fra angelico is this utterly camp hazelnut liqueur, the bottle of which is shaped like a monk's cassock and featuring a little rope belt. it's hilarious. and rather nice in a coffee...

Aitch · 04/06/2007 21:59

pmsl laughing at your policeman's tipple.

francagoestohollywood · 04/06/2007 22:12

how come I missed fra angelico? sounds intriguing...

Aitch · 04/06/2007 22:22

oh you must try it, it's hilarious. but limoncello is really my thing, in a frozen glass. yum. although it does make me want to start smoking again.

francagoestohollywood · 04/06/2007 22:30

The world of Italian amari/liquori is utterly camp, names like Cynar (from artichoke!), rosso antico, don bairo l'uvamaro, stock 84 spring to mind, together with their advertisements on tv in the 70s...
Forgot to say, thanks califrau, I'll try and ask Berolina .

I lurve limoncello an also amaretto. My mum loves the crema di limoncello and I always get her a few bottles in when she comes over. Dh's family look on in amazement as she drinks it like water but doesn't get drunk !!!

francagoestohollywood · 05/06/2007 10:03

Califrau with all those lemons you should start making your own limoncello ! If you want the recipe I can ask SIL, her grandad still makes it. Gorgeous weather in Devon. Shame that I'm trapped by the translation and tons of ironing.

francagoestohollywood · 05/06/2007 10:08

Michymama che fai a selinunte (I went in 1994)? I'm dreaming of taking the children for a tour of Sicily (we usually go on holidays to the isole eolie) as soon as they are a bit bigger. I know Sicily quite well, but haven't been to Siracusa yet...

michymama · 05/06/2007 10:50

Franca - this is where my husband is from. We met in Liverpool where he was working and two years after we got married we came back here. We've been here 6 years in September and I love it !!! I'm sure its changed a bit, though not much since 1994 !!! They've closed off the temples, u could just walk in before. I've not had chanve to travel round much what with having babies etc. I have been working the last year in Marsala, nice town. I hate castelvetrano our local towm and commune.

francagoestohollywood · 05/06/2007 11:40

ah sounds lovely... bet you have lots of cous cous di pesce....

Eve · 05/06/2007 11:48

...Ciao... can I impose as well?

I am not Italian, but husband is from near Campobasso in Molise. We are just back from a week out there with his family.

francagoestohollywood · 05/06/2007 11:56

ciao . Did you get crap weather too?

Rosa · 05/06/2007 13:02

Limoncello - adore the stuff especially the really local stuff from the amalfi coast .
Laugh over Fernet Branca I once got a full body shiver over a Unuicum . Horrible stuff as are some of the 'genepy' or however it spelt .
I made Limoncello once and we tried to make it in the Uk but a) the lemons were small and not so full of flavour and b) had a really hard time finding the alcohol to put in it. I think I still have the receipe somewhere.
Its really windy in venice today like its trying to rain. DD has runny nose as is teething and she should be having her mmr on thurs so am a bit in a 'concern mode.' Ditto re the ironing Franca have a huge pile of it !

michymama · 05/06/2007 13:04

I don't eat fish !!!! Not great when u live in a fishing village !!! Love cous cous though usually have it with veg !!
Luckily my kids don't take after me, they had insalata di polpo last week !!! And fabs loves carciofi done on the barbeque !!!

francagoestohollywood · 05/06/2007 13:21

at carciofi. It is impossible to find artichokes here in Exeter. And it's my fav vegetable, raw in pinzimonio, boiled, fried, you name it...
sicily has to be my culinary heaven... (well, southern Italy in general... ) mmmmm just thinking about arancini right now!

michymama · 05/06/2007 14:21

Love arancini !!! Especially the meat ones !!! Have to say though, being typically english, I miss my curries !!! When we moved here I sent over 40 tins of curry paste !!! Have got a few of my friends hooked on them too !!! Sicilian desserts too ............... yum ............
