(Sorry Cali...)

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2007 21:07

Lol!

PippiLangstrump · 15/09/2007 12:28

I am trying to keep fit while pg which proves impossible atm as super tired and can't not eat. agree too I hate those type of gyms. I used to go to local council, which was great and proved to be the best choice as it's were I met DH!

Ellbell ciao! great news! I looove Venice.

I think I have opted for the MacDonald Spa in Bath. Not very original maybe but looks great!! and get good discount from lastminute!

Rosa · 15/09/2007 14:43

Ellbell let me know if you need anything....Hope you have a hotel ok as it seems to be still mega a busy.
Just been to a christening and wore shoes that were about 8 yrs old ...Took them off and they have disentigrated ( sp) round my feet .I have totally black feet and shoes are in the bin !!

Pippi I did swimming when I was pregnant and loved it. Wish I had started earlier Only about 8 other pg women in the class - Bliss !

So Franca have you signed. It will be ok I am sure. Think you can go back to Exeter and have hols like you do with Italy ...Mind you summer in Italy is probably warmer!
I know what you mean about the grass being greener on the otherside of the fence I just have to find the fence!

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2007 16:24

Yes, we'll sign the contract and send it back to Italy on Monday. Ok the house is going to be quite small, but it's in a great area and luckily we can store our furniture at pil's garage . I know what you mean Rosa, I don't know where the fence is either! I also want to make a list of all things British I want to take away with me... and yes, it'd be a good opportunity to go on hols in Cornwall in June [smiile]
Pippi the hotel sounds really good.

PippiLangstrump · 15/09/2007 17:17

FRANCA i AM SURE IT'LL BE FINE. (ups sorry). The area is the most important thing at first. if it's only temporary you'll find something bigger later. and being already in the area you want to live in it'll be easier to look for a place wouldn't it?

swimming is the best, like you say though it's starting that's the problem. once you've established a routine it's a piece of cake!

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2007 17:34

I've been meaning to go swimming for months, but I'm never "in ordine" peliwise and I'm

Thanks Pippi . Im already looking for letto for the dc's cameretta (ds is still in toddlers bed, needs a "real" one now), I want one of those raised bed with cassettoni sotto...

PippiLangstrump · 15/09/2007 20:03

that makes sense. you need so much space with DCs.

I'm thinking to have my bed of when I was young shipped over as it is sooo nice and I've got all my memories. I just don't know how much it would be though. I've got a few bits at my dads that I'd like to bring over but as it is only few items it might be not worth it.

l've just eaten a nice agnello con olive nere - soory I had to share as it was really yummi!

re: hair. I had to shave (with DH's razor) the under-arm bit really quickly before taking DD to the park as I only had vests in the house! No chance of me going swimming at this rate! maybe I'll book a vax when I'm at that SPA thingy...

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2007 20:25

mmmm the agnello sounds really nice. come l'hai fatto?

Ellbell · 15/09/2007 20:46

Thanks Rosa... I am looking for somewhere cheap to stay. I was hoping to stay at the Foresteria Valdese (which is very cheap), but they don't have a room at the time we're there. Shame! Any recommendations would be very welcome!

Rosa · 16/09/2007 08:24

cheap is not a really good word as far as Venice is concerned. Try the Ca Fontanea or maybe Palazzo Cendon. They are a bit out of the centre let me know if I am still out of price range.

Franca there are loads of beds with drawers sotto also with sort of cupboards each end. When I was in the SME saw lots..Sme is cheap I know but out divani came from there 6 yrs ago and they are still great .

PippiLangstrump · 16/09/2007 08:41

Recipe for Agnello con Olive Nere di Mamma di Pippi:

I use a few lamb chos and lamb steaks cut in half. wash the lamb and cook on its own in a pan for a few minutes. Throw away the fat and add olive oil, rosemary and a chopped onion. Season and cook for a while (to brown it a bit and insaporire, I'd say 15min?. Then add white wine or beer and leave it to cook on a slowish heat till the sauce is reduced. Add the olives 10 min before the end.

I'm not sure of the times. but by the end it should be juice and super tender. Il sughino e' buonissimo con il pane!!

Yesterday was a good cooking day, we had 'pasta e fagioli' for lunch. shame DH has got a cold and could not taste anything. he said the texture was very good though!

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2007 09:42

Rosa, what is SME? I'll try and google it . There is one IKEA single bed with 3 big drawers, which I quite like, I'll go and have a look at it. Yesterday I fell in love with FLEXA furniture for children, but I'm pretty sure they'll be quite expensive.

Pippi, thanks, sounds great, will def try it out

Ellbell, have you also already checked the travel section of the guardian on line? I'm pretty sure they've done articles on Venice "on the cheap".

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2007 09:46

Found it Rosa! They've got shops only in the north east though... I guess I'll have to spend a day on the outskirts of Milan where all the big shops d'arredamenti are...

Rosa · 16/09/2007 12:11

Is your nearest Ikea Brescia? We have one in Padova but I tend to like the extras rather than the furniture. There are bound to be places like the SME all round esp Milano outskirts..Have not seen teh Flexa furniture I liked some of teh stuff begining with B but can never remember the name...

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2007 18:23

no, there are two Ikeas just outside Milano, one is in Corsico and has been recently made bigger and better. I worked there with a contract of 6 months when I was at university. It was great fun .

hotmed · 16/09/2007 20:12

Buonasera anche da me. L'agnello di Pippi mi ha fatto venire l'acquolina in bocca, devo provare a farlo. Noi stiamo pensando di provare a fare un altro bimbo, dh non c'e' per ora, quindi bisogna aspettare qualche settimana.....I feel broody all of a sudden, maybe it's autumn.

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2007 20:36

I'm happy to hear that.
I felt nostalgica this evening and found this website.

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2007 20:37

Twice!
Ok, we've solved the mistery of rosa's dh's job, now it's hotmed's dp's turn. I still belive he is a spy .
Ah, it's nice feeling broody. What have you been up to lately hotmed?

hotmed · 16/09/2007 21:18

doing lots of translations but soooo badly paid......i need to find a real job that pays a real salary...but i still don't know what to do....what will do in milan jobwise? teach english?

Ellbell · 16/09/2007 22:03

Thanks for the hints Rosa. When I said 'cheap', I meant 'by Venetian standards'! Palazzo Cendon doesn't have rooms available when we're there. Ca Fontanea does, but it's not clear whether we could all share a room (i.e. whether they could put in extra kids' beds). I will have to ring them, I think.

We have a return flight from Treviso at 9.40 so need to be at the airport for 8.00 a.m. Do you happen to know if it's possible to get there for that time from Venice-centro? Are there airport buses from Pzle Roma (or do they just go to Marco Polo)? (Don't worry if you don't know... I am being ultra-lazy and using you instead of Google and/or ringing someone to find out. Sorry!)

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2007 09:36

lol at still I don't know what to do... reminds me of someone... me ..
No, my English is not good enough, at least i don't think it is. I seriously want to look into the possibility of doing a midwifery degree, which is something I really wanted to do here, but it was too big a commitment with just the backup of dh, who works full time anyway. anche la maestra elemtentare forse non mi dispiacerebbe, ma anche per quello devo retrain. I'm all over the place, there are many things I love to do and not enough organization and confidence to do them.
Otherwise, I just hope that one of my high flying friends will need a secretary .

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2007 09:37

another question: what do you think of scuola steineriana (lets forget about the mini berlusconis for a minute...)

Brangelina · 17/09/2007 11:15

Franca, my friend sends her DD to the Steineriana and apparently she is very happy there, after a disastrous 2 years in scuola elementare normale. She actually gets upset if she misses a day of school now and on Saturday mornings they they have nature lessons on the woods. Even if it's raining, which is a novelty around here.

I would be quite keen as apart from the reading thing it is very much in line with my hippy principles and there would be less hassle with DD being vegetarian etc. The only downside from my pov (apart from the fact there isn't one in Monza, grrr) is that they finish at 1pm so for people who work it's a nightmare. No after school clubs either.

I can see a niche in the market here....why don't you train as a maestra steineriana and open a school with after school activities for hippy-like parents who work full time, ideally down Monza way, maybe even 2 mins from my house.
