Ellbell no problem about getting to Treviso early as the ATVO buses run linking Piazzale Roma - Treviso If you go to www.atvo.it you should be able to get the times or if not on arrival at Treviso when you get the tickets they can give you the updated times.
Ca Fontanea I know can take a 3rd bed but not sure about another ( kids I am guessing at 2) . It is a bit out of the centre as nearer the station area. The HOtel Tre Archi I know has rooms that can take 2 extra beds but sometimes their prices are daft . Also the hotel Canal e Walter used to be able to take 2 extra beds. Another one that I know has a room with a couple of extra beds is Ai DO Leoni. Hope these help. No problem about asking me and Venice questions.
If I had money , time to work out teh permessi etc I would open an Italian version of tumbletots or similar.
Just had a huge thunderstorm here!

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2007 16:32

Yes, there is certainly a niche in the market for things like tumbletots. In Milan, as far as I know, there are really few places geared up for under threes (I guess it's because lots of little ones go to asilo nido) and the ones that exist like Miele are really expensive.
Brangelina, I'd love too, but I'm not sure I'de be creative enough to be a maestra steineriana. Ds is 5 and started reception in Janaury. He's def not ready to read ("writing" is a bit better) and I'm thinking that he'd probably thrive more in a setting where he can make stuff/grow thing etc. Mind you he might fare molti progressi in the next 6 months (and I'm glad he'd be at scuola materna). But if he's still living on his cloud, I'm not sure how he'll fit in a prima elementare italiana. Things might have changed, but ai miei tempi it was sitting for 4 hrs, doing work etc etc.

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2007 16:55

Brang, can I ask you which steineriana your friend's dd is?

Ellbell · 17/09/2007 20:09

Thanks Rosa. Will check that out. Busy for the next day or two with registration, etc. but will get back to planning this very soon.

hotmed · 17/09/2007 20:13

hi, franca, you will be surprised how quickly kids can get an interest in reading and writing, within a few weeks suddenly something seems to click, and off they are writing and reading. we have a steiner school in our area, but it is basically a private schools as fees are very high, so not a fan. very envious of ellbell and her venetian trip.

Rosa · 17/09/2007 20:24

Its Ai Due Leoni...Opps.
I am still thinking about Nido for dd as well but cant get a time to go and see with dh ..I had never heard of Steiner schools to be honest.... Maybe I need to mumsnet more !

Ellbell · 17/09/2007 20:44

And then, hotmed, once they start reading there is no stopping them. Dd1 (7) is now working her way through the Narnia books. She'd read all night if I didn't turn the light out for her (and watch her room to make sure it doesn't go back on)!

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2007 21:04

Lol Ellbell at your dd. As a child I more than once feigned an illness in order to skip school and finish a book .
I'm sure he won't end up analfabeta, but he so not ready now.

Rosa: try and do a search on steiner schools: it is a bit of a controversial subject on MN! Have you got some nidi shortlisted already?

hotmed · 17/09/2007 21:16

lol at franca' ds ending up analfabeta!!! i had forgotten that word in fact!

hotmed · 17/09/2007 21:20

is your ds franca more into imaginative play then?
rosa, it is true that on mumsnet there are vehement anti-steiner and pro-steiner contingents. i find the steiner philosophy a bit odd, don't they have rules about not using certain paint colours and certain material before a certain age? i am quite hippy too i must say, but the minute i have to fork out dosh for a school....

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2007 21:27

yes hotmed, he's def into imaginative play. Always dressing up. Always pretending, always playing really. They are both actually really good "players", which I'm extremely pleased of. He also likes gardening a lot.
There are many points of the whole steiner philosophy which are undoubtly odd. And I'm not that hippy tbh. However, at the moment I'm trying to figure out whehter ds could thrive in that sort of environment. Yes I feel the same about paying for private education. As you know I have issues with private education. It's my socialist super ego

PippiLangstrump · 17/09/2007 21:57

ciao hotmed!!!

(I am glad you'll be joining me soon! Can't wait.)

I did read a bit about steiner school but I don't think I am hippy enough in re to education. (very hippy about housework though!) having said that DD starting school at 4.1 is scary. Some kids are just not ready. I started at 5 (primina) [super-bright emoticon] , as my mum said I was bored at asilo. (quite handy that as I lost plenty of years at uni after.) but there were some in my class that struggled, not for lack of brains just not in it yet to the discipline and schedule etc.

franca that website is fantastic! brought tears to my eyes. DD and I have a CD in the car with all these songs of our times: candy, lady oscar etc... great fun, for me!!

PippiLangstrump · 17/09/2007 21:58

oh and franca please do a midwifery course (what's the equivalente in italiano?). we need more nice ones.

hotmed · 17/09/2007 22:04

carissima, io sono comunista!

hotmed · 17/09/2007 22:13

yes, i want an italian midwife too. will check website.

I still like the name! Though of course it's now hard to imagine dd2 not being called by the name we gave her in the end!

francagoestohollywood · 18/09/2007 09:17

which name which name?

hotmed the website is not about comunist midwives! (are you pazza? non lo sai che i comunisti mangiano i bambini?? )

francagoestohollywood · 18/09/2007 09:18

WE ARE REACHING 1000 POSTS.
WE HAVE TO CREATE A NEW ONE!

Brangelina · 18/09/2007 09:43

Franca - it's the one for Milano sud, a San Cristoforo credo.

I hate paying for education too, but the good thing about Steiner schools is you only pay how much you can afford if you can afford it. My friend went through a difficult period money wise and didn't pay anything for a few months and apparently it was OK. I must ring her actually, I'm so crap at keeping in touch.

What name are we talking about Cali? Is it Mariel as in Hemingway?

Brangelina · 18/09/2007 09:44

But if you want materna there's one in Via Alessi (una traversa della Darsena), just down the road from where I used to live .

francagoestohollywood · 18/09/2007 09:54
