Good luck for the lesson - aren't you getting less fearful each time you go out?

btw Mrs Slow Learner - everything's fine, we've sold our house without finding a new one to ease up any chain problems. I haven't fled the family home. (yet)

Boco · 29/05/2007 09:23

Hello. I have a lesson in 8 minutes. My instructors wife has been ill so havent' had a lesson for 2 weeks and i'm feeling vaguely hysterical.

I hate it i hate it i hate it.

Hope your lesson went well Boco

Aefondkiss · 29/05/2007 13:04

still here, lurking shamefully, but I have learned to use the watch thread button, so now I can lurk properly

moving on friday, so I will be learning to drive in June hopefully

Carmenere · 29/05/2007 13:08

I'm a bit late to this thread as I have been having lessons for about 6 weeks. I LOVE my lessons but I put that down to the fact that I drove in Ireland for years and am now refreshing so I can pass my test here. And of course that is the scary bit. The test. FYI I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but did you know that the theory test is going up to 50 questions in September!!!And you have to pass 43!! Atm there are 35 and you have to pass 30.

Aefondkiss · 29/05/2007 13:20

just read the whole thread

Boco I feel for you and I haven't even started, I hope your lesson wasn't too gut wrenchingly awful.

reading about reversing, junctions, changing gear and ooh the one that I really don't like, going around roundabouts ....just fills me with dread

my friend learned to drive when she was 30, she was taking beta blockers or something when it was coming up to the test to cope with the stress/nerves... I will have to ask her about it....

Boco · 29/05/2007 13:27

My lesson was ok, it's never as bad as i think its going to be. Still only on one hour lessons though, don't think my instructor can take being in an enclosed space with me for more than that.

He said today 'please don't scream when you see a pigeon. The pigeon can't hear you scream, but i can, and i'm sitting very close to you.'

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 29/05/2007 16:06

Boco - lol

I have visions of the Catherine Tate Woman who screams at everything

MrsSlowLearner · 29/05/2007 20:10

Glad all is well Margo

lol @ the pigeon thing Boco

Had my lesson this evening which probably wasn't the best time for me as concentration levels not so good in the evening's.We did reversing round corners,so ok i didn't go up the kerb or stall or anything but my instructor was talking me through it and i still got confused with when to turn and which way.I said to my instructor that i find it a challenge going bleedin forwards and remembering my left and right let alone backwards
I think that he will be a rich man before i can drive
We went round lots of roundabouts which don't really phase me to be honest which is good.
My instructor said that i was a little rusty from missing the lesson(as he was on hols)
but have another lesson thursday so hopefully should get back in the swing of it.

Carmenere-Welcome to the thread
My instructor was talking to me about the theory today as he want's me to do it sooner rather than later as he said about the increase in questions in september

Something else to put the pressure on

Aefondkiss-Will be good when you can join us

queenrollo · 30/05/2007 12:22

......first lesson in an automatic today and my instructor exclaimed 20 mins into the lesson 'my god you can drive'.....two three point turns went well (first one a bit dodgy while i was getting used to the car) and i'm doing reversing next week. he even muttered about booking my test for July!!!

Snowhite · 30/05/2007 15:07

Lol @ mrsSlowlearner I can not get to grips with my left or right when reversing either.

Got a 2 hr lesson on Friday and it is rush hour not really looking forward to it, I usually have my lessons about 1 ? 2pm ish. Just out of interest what time do all of you have your lessons is it varied or the same time?

CatIsSleepy · 30/05/2007 18:38

WHY oh WHY can i do a 3-point turn perfectly when the road is empty but as soon as there's a car waiting to get by i stall about 3 times?!!
it's not fair!!
sorry just had lesson. blood pressure still high. harrumph.

MrsSlowLearner · 30/05/2007 19:04

QueenRollo-I am so glad that you feel more confident now you have switched to auto

Snowhite-I usually have my lessons in the morning's if possible as i feel more alert at that time.DD1 is usually at school and my mom or dad will watch dd2 for me,i work afternoons so this works well for me.

Catissleepy-I know that feeling well,if i know i am being watched by other people i go to pieces.

OP posts:
CatIsSleepy · 31/05/2007 09:51

think i've now broken the 20 lesson barrier btw (that's 20 hour lessons)-do i get some kind of award for valour....

CatIsSleepy · 31/05/2007 11:12

or maybe my instructor should get one

luczluutoo · 31/05/2007 12:04

Ooo can I join your thread, just relearning after a HUGE break.I'm A fairly confident driver-been driving on and off for yrs just get massively nervous when test looms and back off completely (stupid I know).Having 1-2 HRS in paid lessons and probably driving 20-40 miles a week in our car....finding lessons stressful at times as I lose my confidence if I screw things up,it seems to go downhill from there.I'm SHIT at reversing-cannot get my head around left and right.just started on bay parking last night.arghhh and I SOOOO am not looking forward to parallel parking-my idea of hell!!

MrsSlowLearner · 31/05/2007 13:02

Luczluutoo-Welcome to the thread,am at your confidence.

CatIssleepy-lol,yes you are a pro!

I had lesson number 11 today.
We did more reversing round cornersit is driving me crackers.I cannot fathom how much to steer and which way,it is complicated by my having to look behind
I am starting to get a bit disheartened with the 3 point turn and reversing round corners even though i know i have only done them a few times but they just seemed easier when i did them years ago.I am dreading parallel parking especially.
Oh well it is still early day's i suppose and i am getting a bit more confident driving around and no longer dread traffic lights.
