hi.just started lessons a few weeks ago. absolutely hating it. the lesson goes fine but i have such a tense neck by the time i get back...... don't enjoy it but i suppose i should persevere. i just get really nervous. getting better at staying towards the middle of the lane. hubby says that the verge is NOT for driving on i'm ok with the instructor but dh makes me nervous. must get this in the bag, been promised motorbike lessons if i pass. 2 wheels work better for my crappy depth perception!

My test is booked .

I drove in the nearest city today. Various mental incidents.

The man who did not know which lane to go in on a spiral roundabout so decided to try to swoop into mine

The woman who drove up my arse and stayed there at 50mph for bloody ages(50 was the speed limit btw) and then overtook me where over taking is not allowed with a car coming in the opposite direction. On the plus side I now know what the anti lock brakes feel like when they kick in.

I think some people are really mean to learners when they are out with l plates on. Far less so when out with an instructor.

CatIsSleepy · 11/06/2007 12:48

take that!

ProjectIcarus wtf is a spiral roundabout ?
when's your test?

i discovered there are people who drive even more slowly than me- they are in norfolk.

ProjectIcarus · 11/06/2007 13:46

spiral roundabout. 3 lanes which feed round in a spiral way rather than changing lanes.

test booked for end of July.

CatIsSleepy · 11/06/2007 13:48

well i'll be....the things they have nowadays..etc etc
am trying to work out if that's better or worse thana normal roundabout but my brain is hurting...

well done getting a test booked. am being quite chicken on that front.

misdee · 11/06/2007 13:49

help me. i am not learning to drive but was petrified when learning to drive, we have a courtesy car this week and iterr9ified of driving it. its soooo long!

CatIsSleepy · 11/06/2007 14:54

misdee, i don't know if i can help you, but i can state categorically that you are a better driver than me...

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 11/06/2007 19:26

Misdee, it's always scary driving a new car. I had a test drive in a car last week and was scared that I would crash it

LL - I didn't realise that you were a learner too. Good luck

Talking of roundabouts - have you ever been to Swindon? Their roundabouts have roundabouts!

Carmenere · 11/06/2007 19:35

Misdee fwiw I always find driving a big car easier than driving a small one. you will be fine.

Carmenere · 11/06/2007 19:37

People are nice when you are in the car with the instructor because it might be a test situation I think.

My theory test is on friday eek.

electra · 11/06/2007 19:38

I'm learning too - passed theory test a year ago! Failed 1st practical test in March. Then my nice instructor left and I now have someone else. I was advised to put test back. It's going ooon and oooooon. Feel like I will never be able to drive!

electra · 11/06/2007 19:42

btw do any of you have an instructor who touches your hand?

ProjectIcarus · 11/06/2007 20:12

ELectra no. And If I bump into him when gear changing he apologises and moves over a bit.

When does yours touch your hand?

queenrollo · 12/06/2007 20:55

today i did parallel and bay parking.......my instructor has told me to book my practical for the middle of July. I LOVE THE AUTOMATIC CAR

Electra.....under what circumstances does your instructor touch your hand? mine has only done once, when he had to steer me away from a parked lorry .....i would tell your instructor it makes you feel uncomfortable if you don't like it.

Boco · 12/06/2007 20:59

My instructor clasps my hands! It's really embarrassing actually. He does it when we're parked in a kind of 'come here you, hold my hand!' sort of way. Makes me go all peculiar and not know where to look. He's not doing it in a pervy way, more like an over friendly uncle.

Ooh, that sounds worse.

Hmmm.

CatIsSleepy · 13/06/2007 15:31

Boco that is quite odd...

CatIsSleepy · 15/06/2007 10:21

carmenere good luck with theory test

queenrollo · 15/06/2007 20:20

booked my practical test

MrsSlowLearner · 18/06/2007 22:03

Carmenere-How did it go?

Have a lesson in the morning ,i am feeling very dubious about it as i have been on holiday so i know i will be crap ,and i feel like i'm losing interest because i haven't driven for a while.

OP posts:
wrinklytum · 18/06/2007 22:14

Ooh yes, meant to ask Carmenere hope it went well.

Mrs Slow Learner, keep at it you will be OK I am sure.

Positive vibes for all other earners out there.

CatIsSleepy · 19/06/2007 14:55

Mrs S I hope you've booked your theory test...

MrsSlowLearner · 19/06/2007 20:19

CatIsSleepy
Haven't booked it yet no as i don't seem to get time to read the damn book.

Lesson today was okish ,my instructor said i need to slow things down as i try to rush to do things like change gear etc.I worry about the drivers on the road and am aware of their irritation at learners. My instructor said i need to ignore them ,that will be ignore the feckers that enjoy pulling out in front of me or tailgating me or those failing to use their indicators

Carmenere -where are youuuuuuuuuu?
