Cripes! March already!?

Have things been quiet this part of the year, or is it just me? Only had one call for a casting a couple of weeks ago and couldn't make it. Otherwise - nada!

Lets hope March picks up!

marymay · 01/03/2007 15:18

its been very quiet for my ds as well only one call since christmas and we couldnt make that.dd had three casting.its normally the other way around ds with lots of calls and dd not so busy.so nice for her.

2ManyPimms · 01/03/2007 18:43

No. It was for M&S.

I was hoping that DS would do a bit more before we had to give it up - it doesn't look as though it will be the case.

Not sure if anyone can advise. My DS is 7 and joined 2 agencies in Jan, heard nothing in Jan but Feb been fairly busy, already had 2 half days off school in past fortnight and got a job tomorrow 10 - 1.30 so will miss all day of school. Would the school find out if I rang in sick or is it best to tell them truth as kids are only allowed 10 days off school for modelling.

BigmummaL · 01/03/2007 22:31

Hi Totally,

Sorry I meant Monday!! What time are you going to get there for? We are going to try and make it for 10.30am as DS has Gymababes in the afternoon.

BigmummaL · 01/03/2007 22:32

Forgot to ask how did the Tesco shoot go?

americanmum · 02/03/2007 13:17

I paid £120 to sign my daughter up at Little Acorns over a year ago. We've never been sent to one casting! What a waste of money...

Want to sign up with another agency but don't want to pay more money. Do they all charge a fee?

2ManyPimms · 02/03/2007 16:39

Americanmum - Try Bruce & Brown, Kids London and MOT. They don't charge a fee and are highly regarded in the industry. Good luck!

(PS - I'm American too - where do you hail from?)

kslatts · 02/03/2007 17:14

americanmum - a couple of years ago I paid some money to little acorns (I think it was called an interview or assessment fee), when we went along it was more like a presentation and if we wanted to sign up we had to pay more money (I can't remember the figure but it was quite a lot), lukily dh was with me and thought is a bad idea so we didn't sign up as since then I have heard from other people the have never had any work after paying lots of money.

americanmum · 02/03/2007 17:25

kslatts, I think you are right, total scam. The reason I signed up is because when I went to the presentation (which was free) I was sitting next to a woman who had a nephew that was signed by Little Acorns. She said he had been sent to about a dozen castings. So I thought they were legit. Oh well, live and learn.

Pimms, thanks so much for the advice on agencies, it's appreciated. I will check them out.

I'm from San Francisco, how about you?

misdee · 02/03/2007 23:24

aha found it!

hi ladies.
serena got a call about a casting on monday for dove, but had to turn it down second on in the last few months we have had to say no to.

christabel · 05/03/2007 12:56

Anyone know anything about Model Management. A friend of mine went to a hotel in Leeds yesterday and paid £180 to them. They apparently send a CD of to all agencies.

BigmummaL · 05/03/2007 21:18

That's excellent news clj118. Let us know how you get on and fingers crossed for Boden.

Ds had Mamas & Papas casting / fitting today but has not been chosen.

mythumbelinas · 05/03/2007 21:29

christabel, how did the job go last week? Do you actually know your school gives 10 days off for modelling? If they do, I would use these up first .. also, speak to the Headteacher.
I haven't heard of Model Management, but i thought the general rule was not to go to hotels for castings, etc

PhoenixGirl · 05/03/2007 21:33

Hi, did anyone go to a casting on 1st March at Bewleys Hotel Leeds with Millenium studios and unlike me actually asked who it was for?

christabel · 05/03/2007 22:52

I decided not to lie to school and lucky enough job was 5 minutes from our house and last 15 minutes so DS went back to school in afternoon (which she wasn't happy about). Like you say it is best to use the 10 days up first. Job was for a catalogue and it went well. I did warn my friend that they always say don't apply to adverts in the paper for models / extras etc but she had already done it. Shame she didn't pay by chq and she could have stopped it

mum2twoboyz · 07/03/2007 13:11

phoenixgirl....
its actually for stock library - so not a catalogue or such....
dunno if we will bother - if they choose ds2, as, its not the money we really want - just to see his lil face in a catalogue lol guess it depends when it is, as said it cud be in next 2 months.... so a bit vague...
hth

michaelad · 07/03/2007 13:26

Hi everybody, my ds2 (21months) is signed with Scallywags. They do charge a fee for portfolios. But they are a reputable agency, very nice people and we have already had several jobs since we signed in Sept. last year. Don't know if that helps..

ellismummy · 11/03/2007 13:25

I also took my ds to the little acorns assesment about a yr ago, and paid £25, but decided not to join, however he started with truly scrumptious in Jan and have not heard a thing yet.

butterfly01 · 15/03/2007 21:54

my son has been accepted to mychildmodels.com has anyone heard of them as im not sure whether to trust them or not. please email me on [email protected] as im new to the site

BigmummaL · 19/03/2007 22:36

Anyone going to the mothercare casting tomorrow?

Tinkerbel5 · 20/03/2007 10:50

butterfly I have never heard of that agency, just googled it an it looks american, where do you live ?

Bigmumma hi, I think a couple of other mums are going to that casting, are you with the msn group ?

2ManyPimms · 20/03/2007 17:34

Am I missing something?

Which MSN group?

The only one I know of is the one where we were discussing the whole Izzi fiasco....is there another?

I was wondering why the board was so quiet!

OP posts:
BigmummaL · 20/03/2007 19:28

Hi Tinkerbel,

No am not on the MSN group, but if possible would like to be invited on to the group. I am relatively new to Mumsnet and have been posting only a few months. My Ds is with UA and since we joined in December he has had no jobs but 4 castings with M&S, Tesco, Mamas & Papas and Mothercare. I would be very grateful if I could be invited on.

rebeccasmum010107 · 20/03/2007 19:30

have just heard back from Elisabeth Smith saying they would like us to visit them. charging a fee of £30 and then they are talking about a fee of £175 is this right or have i got the wrong end of the stick. are they a good agency am completely new at this HELP please!!!
