Cripes! March already!?

Have things been quiet this part of the year, or is it just me? Only had one call for a casting a couple of weeks ago and couldn't make it. Otherwise - nada!

Lets hope March picks up!

Hi BigmummaL
My ds is 19 months.. How old is yours??

BigmummaL · 23/03/2007 13:44

He is 11.5 months. Just had email through, the nearest tube is Ravenscourt Park.

lizzymouse69 · 23/03/2007 17:07

Hi BigmummaL
Thanks Have got the email through. We will be driving so must be an ncp near the tube. DS is 19 months old. Seeing them at 10.40. Will you have far to come??

BigmummaL · 23/03/2007 17:16

I have not yet decided how to get there yet. I live in Essex but to get to Ravenscourt Park at that time of the morning will take at least 2.5 hrs, and I don't like DS being cooped up in the car for that long. I am thinking I might get a train, but at that time would be very expensive. I would have thought they would have an ncp car park close by. If you go on to their website it will tell you which one is the closest to it. My Partner wants to drive as he is a blue badge holder and so it is cheaper that way.

lizzymouse69 · 23/03/2007 17:42

Hi BigmummaL
We are coming from Essex as well. We will be relying on satnav - was allowing a couple of hours but with stops will prob be longer. Hopefully he will have a snooze on the way there. Have you been to any castings before??

Hi everyone, I've been lurking a while and would like to know...Is anyone else doing the Richmond Park Otto job this weekend? My dd is doing both days with a further day next week. 3 days for one job; is this normal? (sorry, I'm new to this and am a bit flummoxed as to why one job should take so long)

thanks

altin

goingfor3 · 23/03/2007 18:33

altin, well done on the job!!! Sometimes it can take ages to get a good picture and they do allow alot of time. The Otto job is a catalouge so you may find that they want to use your DD for many outfits.

altin · 23/03/2007 18:54

Hi goingfor3 waves hello

thanks very much for that info. I was told there would be a lot of outfits so what you say makes sense, plus apparently they need to 'partner' her with the right boys and girls to get the right mix.

I just didn't think it would take 3 days to get the mix right. She's not an alien!!

goingfor3 · 23/03/2007 18:59

Nosey question, how old is she and with agency is she with. My DD is five.

altin · 23/03/2007 19:04

She is 6 and with KidsLondon, gf3. They seem like a good agency so far.

altin · 23/03/2007 19:23
  • while I'm in the nosey enquiries mood..did anyone go to the Persil Europe casting this week near Tottenham Ct rd? My ds went but no feed-back so I guess no free washing powder for life .........
totallyfloaty35 · 23/03/2007 19:51

casting was ram packed today, babies everywhere. However the mum who went in after me used to work with the casting director so not sure if LO will get it .

cyan · 23/03/2007 20:07

hi altin

I spoke to my friend today who took her ds to the persil casting.

She said all the kids were older than him, he's 3 and that the shoot was today apparently. Her little boy was not really in the mood and wouldnt do what they asked -bless him! her son is with Mot and he didnt get picked.

Best of luck with Otto next week xxx

cyan · 23/03/2007 20:08

totally fingers crossed for dd!! will you be in the ad as well if picked??

xxx

helbel3 · 23/03/2007 20:13

havent read all the thread but just wondered how you get kids into modelling. I have three children who are all very bonny, not just saying this because I am there mum, but I get stopped in the street.

ds1 is six very dark and always gets comments on being handsome, could of walked straight out of catalogue. Dad is greek and looks alot like him

ds2 total different look, blonde hair, big brown eyes, and lovely glasses with a real cheeky smile, age 4

dd is two in may ringlet curls dark brown hair, very beautiful and looks alot like ds1.

Is it very competitive, is it only around the london area?

What are the pros and cons? thanks

sorry if i am hijacking

mimi1uk · 23/03/2007 21:10

mimi1uk · 23/03/2007 21:11

sorry my computer went crazy lol

BigmummaL · 23/03/2007 21:18

Lizzymouse69, the Blooming Marvelous casting on Monday is DS 5th casting with UA since he signed with them in Dec.

lizzymouse69 · 23/03/2007 21:53

Hi BigmummaL
Sounds like he's doing well!!
We have been with them longer - since may but have had fewer - think about 7 - have had nothing for a while then a casting for empire cat in jan. Seems like waiting for a bus for us - nothing for ages - then all come at once. Good luck on Mon!

altin · 23/03/2007 23:34

Hi there cyan

I think my son was in the mood but he seemed to have big problems performing a convincing Spiderman web-firing routine AND smiling at the same time.. He hasn't quite got the multi-task thing going on yet, bless him.

Good luck to everyone with castings and jobs coming up.

altinxx

totallyfloaty35 · 23/03/2007 23:58

Helbel, most work is in london, send snaps of your kids to the top agents like MOTjunior,Kids London,Buce & Brown or Urban Angels,if you google them they will tell you how to apply, goodluck

Housemum · 24/03/2007 00:03

Hi Helbel,

I have 2 DDs, only the youngest models. Pros and cons to consider

  • firstly for you, what if an agent only wanted 1 or 2 of the kids on their books - do you think the others would be upset? My eldest wasn't into it at all, too shy as a child, which is just as well as she wouldn't have had the "look" anyway and she's old enough not to be too bothered by the younger one doing it.
  • unless you are extremely lucky, don't expect your child to earn a fortune! Typical photo job is around 2 hours so you'd get in the region of £90. Travelling expenses are hardly ever paid. Castings (auditions) earn about £13. Again, you need to consider travel costs. If you are lucky and get a commercial they earn a lot more (up to £1000) as there is a buy-out fee so they don't get royalties every time it's on. Not many of these around!
  • if your children are outgoing they will love it. My DD is nearly 4, she thinks it's a great day out as it's either a job so she's getting a lot of attention with the other kids and dressing up, or if it's just a casting we find the nearest museum or something to visit to make a day of it (which also takes away the thought of possibly not being picked - the day out is more to her than the casting.
  • have you got good support for eg school pick-ups? If you get a job you may have less than 24 hours notice, so you need to be able to sort out childcare for the others.
  • best advice is to send pics to the agencies and see what they say. If you think about the catalogues, there are not many pictures of children in glasses - can your son see well enough to not be quinting without them? If so, I would send an initial pic with no glasses on, you can always discuss the specs if you get to be seen by the agency!
  • see my posting below about typical costs of agencies and the hotel scam to avoid. Forgot to mention in that bit about model books, that often under threes don't go in the book anyway as they change too much in the course of a year.

I only know of the London agencies, but there are others - hopefully someone else on the thread will know who they are! Whereabouts in the country are you?

Housemum · 24/03/2007 00:05

...and another thought, do you know what your eldest one's school is like re time off? Some mums on here have terrible trouble and you may have to consider a mystery tummy bug or similar to get a day off! Depends on your morals/whether your child will grass you up!!

BigmummaL · 24/03/2007 15:45

Lizzymouse69 - He has not had any confirmed jobs yet though, have you?
