I know that Candy (Zombie) touched so many lives and is being supported and remembered so beautifully as she takes her next journey.

Woolly Hugs are making blankets in her memory that will be passed onto women who are going through treatment for cancer.

If anyone would like to learn to crochet or would like to offer to help others to learn then please feel free to use this thread and offer your skills.

Love in every stitch and new friendships made.

I'm in Birmingham.

I've got my head round granny squares and I've nearly finished a square of rolling waves.

I want to do one of these pretty squares done in the round, but not confident following a pattern without pictures or doing post stitches or anything like that yet. So I'm wondering if the Marigold square is a good one to start with - the instructions look pretty clear. What do you think?

Pastamancer · 15/02/2017 10:37

Spindelina that pattern is for thicker yarn and a bigger hook so you would need to adjust it to be the right size with DK and a 4mm hook. Are you happy to adjust on the fly?

Spindelina · 15/02/2017 10:44

Do you think I would need to adjust as I went along, or would it just come out too big or small? I'm happy to stop early or add a few rows, but not to change the numbers of stitches in the pattern.

Pastamancer · 15/02/2017 10:58

If you followed the pattern exactly then it would be smaller than 12". I can't say exactly how small as it will depend on your tension but you would need to do extra rounds most likely to take it up to 12 and would need to decide whether to just do the pattern as is and then add trebles around the edge to bulk it out or if you want to try and add in extra rounds but that would mean adjusting the end rounds that turn it into a square

Pastamancer · 15/02/2017 10:59

I'm not trying to put you off but didn't want you to start and get to the end and realise it wasn't going to be big enough. The pattern also uses US terms so you need to keep that in mind when hooking :)

Spindelina · 15/02/2017 14:36

If twigged the US bit - I plan to rewrite it Grin.

And I'm happy doing trebles round the edge.

So I'll put it i my queue - got one to knit first after I finish my waves.

Thanks for your help!

Hi! I've lurked on these threads for a while. I can knit the basic knit stitch but decided to teach myself crochet

In hindsight I should have found a left handed tutorial but I learnt right handed doh!

I was just wondering, I've started a project of a basic blanket, but I only know the single crochet. I've done about 8 rows of it so far but it's taking forever! Do you think it's worth sticking with it? I love the stitch I think it looks a lot nicer than knitting, hence why I swapped over

Thank you Y! I am trying to learn the granny square, it's certainly interesting... 😂

Voted for wooly hugs

Also is there any way to donate to wooly hugs or anything? My skills aren't up to making anything but I would love to donate money for wool/hooks if it's needed?

Pastamancer · 20/02/2017 14:57

They do accept donations Diana

DianaMemorialJam · 20/02/2017 15:13

Is it on FB? Or is there a PayPal account or something?

WhenTheDragonsCame · 26/02/2017 23:33

Cribbs meeting people if I leave here at around 11 I will be there by midday. If you want to stay more than 90 minutes don't go to the MacDonald's just off the M5 junction or you will get a parking ticket!

I don't mind where we meet but my DC are 8 and 6 and aren't good at sitting around. Somewhere there is something for them to do would be great. I can bring stuff but it doesn't keep them occupied long unfortunately.

Spindelina · 27/02/2017 09:53

My DD is 4, and I'm not sure whether she'll want to come with me or not (probably depends on what's on offer for her to do!) or whether DH will come too.

KnottyAndPistey · 03/03/2017 10:32

Morning loves, later on today (fingers crossed) we will be starting a Woolly Hug big blanket for Zombie's son and his wife, so please keep an eye open for that if you'd like to help. xx

Spindelina · 03/03/2017 13:18

@WhenTheDragonsCame, @PurpleDaisies, @Vebrithien, (@Lucysdiamonds?)

Are we still on for next Sat? Does anyone have a suggested meeting place?

Spindelina · 03/03/2017 13:19

@Lucysdiamonds in case the last one didn't work...

WhenTheDragonsCame · 03/03/2017 14:33

I am still happy to meet. I don't know Cribbs very well so not sure of suitable places. I think at the moment it looks like heavy rain is forecast!

Spindelina · 03/03/2017 14:52

Are you looking at the right Saturday, When? It's looking alright on Sat 11th according to my phone.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2017 14:55

I'm still free. Someone suggested there's a soft play which might be good for anyone bringing children?

WhenTheDragonsCame · 03/03/2017 15:41

Maybe its just Plymouth that's due bad weather.

I can research the soft play option and report back later.

WhenTheDragonsCame · 03/03/2017 19:46

@Spindelina @PurpleDaisies @Vebrithien @Lucysdiamonds

I have had a look and there is a soft play. You can use it as a crèche or stay and play.

here is there website

It is located in The Mall at Cribbs Causeway.

It isn't cheap though 1 hour = £4.60, 1.5 hours = £5.50 and 2 hours = £6 for stay and play sessions

I don't think you need to book but it is recommended. It might be quite busy.

KnottyAndPistey · 03/03/2017 20:31

We are starting our Woolly Hug project for Zombie's family tonight, tis over here if you would like to join us and help make this for them.

Thank you xxx
