You know different words to me! Only a but different.
Do your ears hang low
Can you swing them too and fro
Can tie them in a knot
Can you tie them in a bow
Can you swing them over your shoulder like a regimental soldier
Do your ears hang low.

With actions of course, and repeat many many times humming an extra line instead of words each time.

Do you know, "oh be kind to your web footed friends...."

I think that's the version MrScout has tried to teach me, UniS, but it just feels, well, WRONG. I know there are different versions of just about every song I know but it feels funny.

Not sure about "Oh be kind to your web footed friends." What's the next line?

UniS · 30/01/2015 16:08

For a duck may be some bodies brother,
He lives all alone in the swamp,
Where the weather is always damp.
Now you may think that this is the end,
Well it is, but to prove that I'm a liar.
I'm going to sing it again, only this time I shall sing it a bit higher......

Repeat ad infinitum.

Ummmm, I don't know that one....

UniS · 30/01/2015 19:02

Its sung to a tune that I believe is something much more serious in it's normal use in USA Culture. I'll see if I can dig up a link.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Scout19075 · 30/01/2015 20:33

I've had this song in my head most of the day. Not quite this version but close enough.

UniS · 30/01/2015 23:24

That's a new one on me scout. Can hear it's an earworm.

SB is a total geek boy. Many times this week I have watched him and saw the bigger boy he's becoming. He's currently building Snap Circuits, as happy as a pig in poo. Earlier in the week he was pretending to be a Super Nova, complete with body actions and sound effects. He is five. He desperately needs his hair cut so he's got the sticky outty wild hair, glasses and old man button down PJ's on and he looks like a mad scientist as he's making circuits with "low voltage electricity."

UniS · 01/02/2015 09:37

Where as boy is starting to look and behave like a pre teen. He is currently sat in bed reading the beano, listening to radio one..... Has a cold and doesn't really want to get up even tho it has snowed.

Scout19075 · 01/02/2015 09:45

Poor Boy. Hope he's better soon.

SB is currently curled up with his Nana and he's reading to her from his Songbirds book (from the library). I think Nana is suitably impressed with SB's reading. Grin

UniS · 01/02/2015 10:12

Now dressed, the boy has progressed to lolling across a dining chair groaning. Am about to be hardy outdoorsy mum and make him walk to church.

SB spent half of The animated 101 Dalmatians hiding his eyes and is now watching The Sky At Night. MrScout and I are looking at the program for the Science Festival at Ye Ol' University to see what we can book for SB. Think we're going to book in to the observatory for the day of the eclipse.

As an adult it is very easy to cheat/throw the game when playing Monopoly Jr with a five year old.

UniS · 04/02/2015 21:09

Are you VERY VERY bored of monoply junior now?

I will smuggle smath out of the house for you. Sadly boy spotted it and wanted to play and wasn't too keen on passing it on.

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 04/02/2015 21:50

I am VERY, VERY bored of it now, UniS. Fortunately we haven't played in two weeks but did have to play several rounds today and he's threatening to want to play again tomorrow.

That's very kind of you, UniS. No rush. Let Boy play!

UniS · 05/02/2015 08:19

Do you have jenga? Great for hand eye coordination and for using as building blocks after a couple of games.

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 12/02/2015 12:13

SB regularly eyes Jenga at the grocery story (toy aisle). He's not the most coordinated of five-year olds -- maybe it would be a good game for him.

I'm so tired all I want to do is sleep. Instead we've played 'smath, done a phoneme (oa) and a page in the sight words workbook we're working through. He's going to come back to the second page in the sight words book after lunch (there are two/three pages for each group of sight words). I swore there was a phoneme gap but we're rapidly closing in on the end of the Jolly Phonics order of phonemes and I can't work out what it is! Then again he was reading to me yesterday and said "I was reading this last night in bed and got stuck on this page" but when sitting with me he was able to read all of the words/sentences. Maybe it's just a confidence thing?

UniS · 12/02/2015 13:52

Maybe, and maybe being able say a word but not sure what means. Or if he is saying it "right".
Boy went to a scout group swimming event last night and was assessed for his cub scout swimming badge . he managed his first ever 100m swim quite competently. And was he ever pleased with himself.

Scout19075 · 12/02/2015 14:54

Well done, Boy!

You could be right, UniS. I had listened to him read the same story while I was downstairs and he was reading to Bunny in bed but then he stopped. I assumed he got tired and put his book and torch away but maybe he decided he was confused and wanted to wait for me.

SB, for some reason, is DESPERATE to get to Z/zed. Desperate. He's done three phonemes today (usually we do two, max, at a session) and the one he's on now actually has two phonemes on one page (ee and or) so he's done four today in an effort to get to Z. We don't just do the JP coloring/writing page. He's very determined today!

My brain and my body are still very fuzzy today. I don't like it.

MaudantWit · 26/02/2015 02:41

Ha! There's a new chat thread starting in Larger Families, which they say will be like this one but without virtual cake, wine, massages or butlers. All of which suggests to me that they've done an awful lot of research (how many threads ago did we last see Mellors?) and they don't know what they're missing.

::scoffs virtual cake::

UniS · 26/02/2015 08:10

Oh well. IF they don't want virtual cake....
Units scoffs a slice to keep Maud company.

Cooor, mellors is looking buff today.

Units sits in happy silence just watching him dusting and vacuuming
