This is the feedback thread for the 200 Mumsnet users who have been testing OGGS® vegan friendly Mini Vanilla Cupcakes.

Here’s what OGGS® has to say: “Whether you’re after something a little bit lighter or in need of a bite-sized treat, these marvellous mini cupcakes are the perfect snack for the whole family. Baked using our OGGS® Aquafaba, an all-plant liquid egg substitute made from chickpea water, they are vegan friendly and ethical from plant to plate. And at less than 99kcal each and made with less sugar, you don’t have to feel so guilty about scoffing a whole box!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following set of questions, as well as completing the short survey we’ve emailed to you.

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?

All testers who give their feedback on both this thread and the survey will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
DH and I didn't really like the icing but the sponge was ok. My 5 and 2 year olds love them though.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
If I had a vegan for tea maybe.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Vegan.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Only if they're vegan.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
No I would not. The after taste from the icing was just too strange.

Thank you for letting me they try them though. We are eating more vegan foods and I was v happy to give these a go. Customer service from the brand was fab, I would def buy other products from them.

Fingermoose · 06/09/2019 19:01

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
They were very sweet. The adults thought they were slightly plasticky but the kids loved them.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
For dessert or snacks if I had a child with allergies or dietary restrictions. Probably not for an adult due to the sweetness.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
They are the only vegan cakes I recall seeing.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
If their children were vegan or had dietary restrictions.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 07/09/2019 12:26

Quite liked the taste and look of them. Liked the size.

I would use them for picnics and parties.
In fact we packed a box to take to the airport for snacks before and during our flight. They are very compact.

What makes them different? I suppose being egg free. I don't need to buy egg free. But they would possibly catch my eye on the shelf.

I would recommend yes.

Would I buy? I figured the price would be around £1.50 a pack. They appear to be more so probably not.

billybear · 08/09/2019 20:06

1 we loved the cup cakes,2 1 would purchase for a kids party/picnic or family get to gether, 3 different in smaller size than other shop cupcakes 4 would recommend to friends and family, healthy and a small bite size portion yes will buy again, only negative they got delivered in hot weather icing was a bit soft and came off easily

jemimafuddleduck · 10/09/2019 14:02

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
I thought they were pretty bland and tasteless
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
I wouldn't.
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Their price - ridiculously expensive!
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
No - too expensive
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
No

Helspopje · 10/09/2019 15:13

They liked them (but less so than ‘normal’ cupcakes) but I found them oily and over sweet

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
A special occasion

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Vegan friendly ness and diddy sized
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Probably not - they were oddly oily

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Probably not unless I had a vegan or allergic child coming over

purplevamp · 10/09/2019 18:14

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes? They thought they were ok, tasted like normal cupcakes but a little drier than regular ones
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for? Parties where I knew a guest was either vegan or had an intolerance to eggs
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands? They have no eggs in them and arere more expensive than regular mini cupcakes
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that? Only to vegans and those with intolerances
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? Probably not as they are too expensive and I make my own cakes a lot

TellMeItsNotTrue · 10/09/2019 18:25

Thankyou MN and OGGS for sorting out a replacement when my first box went missing, after tasting them I'm even more grateful that we didn't miss out!

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
They all loved them, as do I, I think the full 2 boxes would have gone in one sitting if I hadn't brought only one box out at a time!

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for? lunchboxes because of the size, parties or play dates because they will be good for catering for allergies, general treat for us all

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Taste and texture, you can't tell they are vegan. They look "normal" too

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Definitely, I already have, they are a great treat for children who follow certain diets, and perfect size for a little treat

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Definitely, I'd think of them first if I was wanting to get a treat for us

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/09/2019 21:31

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
Unfortunately mine were launched over the garden fence by an overly enthusiastic postman, so I wasn't able to share them with a friend and her toddler as planned. As an adult, I wasn't keen on the taste of the cake itself or the frosting. I found them overly "eggy" with an odd aftertaste. I'm usually a total fiend for cake, but I can't say these were very tempting. The frosting was odd - I felt like a glance icing, maybe with a bit of lemon or orange zest, would have been much nicer.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for? I would consider them if catering for a child with allergies - for an adult I'd probably make my vegan banana bread recipe instead.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands? the packaging was quite fun and eye-catching; I'd have preferred less plastic though. It's nice to see allergen-friendly options clearly marked rather than hunting through labels.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that? Only if they needed to cater for allergies, ie at a children's party.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? As they currently are, only if I needed to cater for a child with allergies. If the icing was changed I'd consider trying them again.

bigarse1 · 11/09/2019 10:42

thanks for allowing us to take part.

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?

we wouldn't im afraid

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?

they aren't nice!

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?

no we wouldn't because they didn't taste nice

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?

no we wont

Cakeandmarshmallows · 11/09/2019 16:45

You Can defo taste the vanilla essence in the ‘buttercream’ and can kinda taste the raising agent in the sponge but on the whole Yum! Moist, light and very edible says my vegan friend. We both agreed that there is a bit of chemical aftertaste but they were an enjoyable vegan snack

As a home Baker I could taste the chemicals in the cake but was overall impressed..was very pleased to be chosen to taste test them!

Cakeandmarshmallows · 11/09/2019 16:55

Oops forgot to answer all,the questions!! Would not buy again as did not enjoy them enough!

I would suggest vegan friends try them though as I think they might enjoy them.
I think they have better taste and presentation than other brands.

BraayTigger · 11/09/2019 17:23

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
My children are not fussy and so eat anything sweet TBH.
However my daughter was enthused. I thought they were ok but slightly stranger taste to normal cakes
Husband height they were ok but not amazing

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Only if needed to cater for vegan / veggie friends or they were on offer

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Not sure that different but I liked the branding and boxing and the fact they are vegan

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
If they were vegan then yes

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Only if catering for vegan friends or they were on offer

SorryDidISayThatOutLoud · 11/09/2019 18:15

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
We all really liked them, they were unlike any similar cakes.

I think they had a bit of an aftertaste but Still enjoyed them.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Anytime I needed lunchbox treats or treats for vegetarian or vegan.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
They looked good and were of a cute small size.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Yes, especially in the case of diet restrictions

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Yes I would.

Ubercornsdiscoball · 11/09/2019 19:34

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes? They were a big hit in this house with myself, my children and extended family! Adults who tried them were surprised that they were dairy free as they struggled to tell the difference from ‘normal’ cakes. My children liked the look of them. I thought the size was good for a snack.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for? A party or lunch/afternoon tea type gathering with friends when I know there are guests needing dairy-free/vegan choices.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands? I’m not entirely sure to be honest as we don’t usually buy this kind of thing from the supermarket. We usually make our own.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that? I would recommend them for the taste and convenience if they were looking for a similar product but I am very wary of the cost.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? Not at full price! They are extortionate!

Susangilley7 · 14/09/2019 17:34

Sorry this is late, computer problems! But no problems with the OGGS! My grandchildren loved them. They were light, pretty and lots of frosting. Personally I could not believe they were vegan, they tasted so good and not heavy, unlike some other products.
Thank you, I have gained Brownie points as have OGGS.
