What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes? We loved the look of them; the sponge was moist and tasty but the icing tasted and felt rather oily.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
They’d be perfect for a child’s party or an occasion where vegans/food intolerances need consideration.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands? The fact that they’re egg free. Possibly the price difference could be a negative factor of this fact didn’t matter.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that? I would if the person was vegan/egg intolerant/ looking to cater for those who are.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? I don’t think so. They were lovely to try and they looked very cute; the oiliness and the potential price point would steer me towards alternatives I think.

PickAChew · 27/08/2019 20:30

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes? After a bit of initial suspicion, the boys wolfed down their cakes. DS2 didn't go back for more, though. DS1 steadily worked his way through the pack and said he liked them. DH said they were all right but seemed quite oily and didn't taste of much. I tasted one and didn't like it. It had an overpowering smell of cheap vanilla and dissolved into an unpleasant sludge in my mouth - apart from the sprinkles which stayed hard, meaning I had to chew through the sludge.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for? I might have bought them for a kids' party or classroom treats, but the boys are too old for that stuff, now.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
It's hard to find egg and dairy free cakes. I noticed that they can't guarantee that they're safe for people with allergies, though, which defeats the point, really.
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that? Probably not. They might do, in a pinch, for specific circumstances, eg catering for vegans or lactose intolerance, but there are nicer shop bought cakes, if not.
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? Nope

Wineandchoccy · 27/08/2019 20:31

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
I thought they were very sweet, DH said they were very oily tasting and sorry but my 4 year old really didn’t like them

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Parties if we had vegan guests

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Small bite size cakes

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Only if vegan or had allergies

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
No sorry

CecilyBlue · 27/08/2019 20:39

What did you/children think of the taste?
I thought the sponge was very tasty but the icing was s bit rich. DS and his friends absolutely loved them and polished off a whole box in minutes!

What Occasions would you buy?
I would buy them as a birthday treat for DS and for friends who are dairy free or vegan.

What makes Oggs different
They look and taste like normal cakes so could be given to everyone rather than just those with diet restrictions.

Would you recommend to friends
I would definitely recommend these cakes, especially for those with children.

Would you purchase in the future
Based on taste and look....absolutely! Based on price.....definitely not! At over £4 a box they are hugely overpriced.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for? A birthday perhaps
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands? They are vegan and ethical
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that? Yes I think so
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? Possibly but price seems rather high

Youvegotafriendinme · 27/08/2019 21:03

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

I loved them and thought they were very moist, might and tasty. My DS also loved them.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?

No particular occasion but would be good for kids parties

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?

I’ve never tried any other diary free cakes before so can’t really say what makes them different I’m afraid

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?

Yes absolutely. Loved the small size as they were great for a small afternoon treat and they tasted great

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?

Yes absolutely!

Thank you for letting us test these

Caillou · 27/08/2019 21:12

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

My children (2,4,7) were really excited to try these, but they had one each and then didn't bother too much with them (despite me offering)

I liked them, I found that one at a time was enough though, so perfect size.
I also did take one box when we went to meet my friend, she liked them, but took the cream off as she wasn't keen on it.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?

I would purchase them as a snack

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?

I have the assurance that it does not contain any meat products.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?

yes I would definitely recommend them to my friends who are either Vegan or have food intolerance.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?

in all honesty, I do not think I will unless they are on offer, £4.25 for a box of 9 is quite expensive if you take into account that they are mini ones.

Reindeerssmellbetter · 27/08/2019 21:16

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting them to taste very nice. They were moist and tasty with a great buttercream tasting topping. My fussy Dp liked them and my icing hating DD ate all the icing.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?

Probably only for a party or something when I needed to cater for allergies or vegans.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?

I'm not sure, I haven't really noticed vegan cakes ranges in the supermarket.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?

Yes I would because of the taste.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?

Possibly if I needed to cater for dietary requirements. They're far too expensive for regular purchases.

KittyKat88 · 27/08/2019 21:19

Thanks for selecting us Smile

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
DD1 (9) said they tasted lemony and was not so keen. DH said they were ok. DD2 (7) loved them, as did I. I, personally, really liked the taste and level of sweetness. I didn't think you could even tell that there was no egg as the sponge was very light (their use of aquafaba is a bit of a revelation to me!).
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
I'd consider them for birthdays and special occasions. I think if there were more variety in toppings they might have even more appeal.
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
It's great to have a dairy-free option available that tastes so nice!
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
I would recommend OGGS® as a nice treat that scores ethical points too, and even more so to any friend who required a dairy-free option
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
I will definitely consider buying OGGS® products in future as I am very interested in finding vegan alternatives to the products I enjoy. I am sure I won't be able to resist looking at other cakes in their range when I'm out shopping! Grin

EmmaC78 · 27/08/2019 21:19

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

For vegan cakes I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the icing was a bit too sweet but apart from that I enjoyed them. I took one packet to work and they got a mixed reaction. One colleague mentioned there was a bit of an aftertaste which I notice other reviewers have mentioned too. A couple of colleagues said they liked them and one was indifferent.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?

I am not vegan but do opt for vegan products on occasions so would buy these if I was having friends round or if I needed to specifically cater for vegans.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?

A good vegan alternative that was pretty close to non-vegan cake so it is a good option to have when shopping. It can be hard to get vegan options in the supermarkets.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?

I would prefer normal size cup cakes but apart from that I would recommend them.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?

I would, they might not be a first choice but I would buy them if I needed a vegan option and would also happily try other things in the range.

annarack99 · 27/08/2019 21:24

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
My children liked them, especially the sprinkles. I thought they were very sweet. Vanilla wouldn't be my first choice of cupcake and I found them plain. They tasted similar to regular cupcakes with the icing being the most noticeable difference.
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Kids' tea if a friend with allergies was coming over for a playdate.
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Egg free.
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Only if they had an egg allergy, I have not seen a product like this before.
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Probably not.

EsmeeMerlin · 27/08/2019 21:31

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
I did not like them, and neither did my eldest son. They were just really sweet and sickly despite being quite small. I would not let my youngest son (1) have one due to the sugar content. The actual cake was nice, it was the icing that made it too sweet. Far too much sugar and needs work. My partner however did like them and he does have a sweet tooth so took some into his work place where they were appreciated.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Because of the sugar content and the price, I would only buy if we were hosting parties and need a vegan treat. Having said that there are other vegan cakes/desserts I would look at first too before buying.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
They are the only vegan cupcakes I have seen, but the market is growing so there are now more vegan cakes in the supermarkets too so i would not say the cupcakes were original.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Probably not, too sweet with too much sugar and expensive. Perhaps if they were really stuck looking for a vegan dessert/treat.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
No, sugar content is too high, they are not fantastic tasting cakes and they are expensive.

Ours also on a separate not arrive absolutely in a right state from being smashed around in the post so something also to consider is how they are sent in any future product tests.

moonmrs · 27/08/2019 21:44

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
My child, 5, loved them and devoured two in one go! He said they were tasty and he liked the icing. I enjoyed them and thought they tasted surprisingly good, I was expecting them to be obviously different. I think you could tell there was something unusual about the recipe, but I wouldn't have been able to guess what it was. I thought the texture was great considering there was no egg in there, if slightly on the dry side. Even my husband said they were 'ok' and coming from him that's quite good as he doesn't have a sweet tooth. I gave some to my mum to try and she liked them too but commented they were quite sweet.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
For a treat or special occasion such as birthday or celebrating success, or maybe for a picnic or party.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
I haven't seen any made without egg or use of aquafaba, I think this is amazing!

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Probably not. They were great to try and the concept is brilliant, but they are expensive, they are full of emulsifiers and preservatives and very sweet. They are also extremely difficult to get out of the packaging, and there was to much icing as it stuck to the lid.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
No not unless I had a friend who required dairy free treats. Great option for those on restricted diets or following vegan foods, but not for me. Really enjoyed the opportunity to try something different, so thank you for that.

TheJunctionBaby · 27/08/2019 23:37

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?my 4 kids all loved them. I wasn't so keen because they leave an aftertaste and are a bit too sweet

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
My son is dairy intolerant so I'd buy them for him for a treat if the rest of us are having a dessert with dairy.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
They look prettier than other free from/vegan desserts

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Because my kids loved them I would recommend them to friends that are either dairy intolerant or vegan

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
I mostly bake from scratch, but as a treat for my son I'd buy them again

olbndansmummy · 28/08/2019 07:27
  • we all loved them, they weren't overly sweet
  • would buy these for parties, just bitesize and looked cute
  • they are different because of the ingredients, the size and ease to cater for allergies
  • yes would recommend
  • yes would buy Thank you for choosing us to try them
Theseptemberissues · 28/08/2019 07:27

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
My dairy free child liked them. Unfortunately everyone else wasn’t very keen.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Parties for a child with a dairy requirement or allergy.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
They were bright and colourful and looked a lot more appealing that most cakes aimed at the vegan/allergy market

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
If they had a specific requirement, yes

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Yes for parties

BillyAndTheSillies · 28/08/2019 07:28

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

DS really enjoyed them, he actually ate the cake not just the frosting and declared them his favourite cake ever. I think the size meant he wasn't overwhelmed but they're sweet enough to just want one.

A few people mentioned after taste but we didn't notice this at all. The cakes were moist, probably more moist than other allergen free cakes I've tried. They didn't taste like they lacked anything at all.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?

These would be perfect for birthday parties or Sunday tea parties. A lot of my family are vegan so it's nice to be able to buy a packet or two of these and not feel like we had to buy alternatives for them to enjoy.

These could also be taken in to preschool by DS and not worry about allergens.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?

They're colourful and a lot more eye catching than competitors, particularly "free from" brands which can look a bit boring.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?

Yes, particularly those with dietary requirements. They were tasty and had no feeling of missing out on anything. The price point is quite high considering the size though.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?

Yes!! For special occasions. But would also keep a packet or two around for when vegan relatives come over so I have something I can pull out which isn't ultra healthy!

thesoupdragon44 · 28/08/2019 09:35

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
We enjoyed the cakes they were nice
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
a special occasion, or if a friend had a dietary requirement
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
not sure they are different appart from being egg free
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
I might if I knew they couldn't have egg
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
probably not as they are expensive for what they are and we don't have any dietary requirements to avoid egg

QueenOfCatan · 28/08/2019 10:32

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
We liked them, though my DH and I weren't keen on the aftertaste. DD1 (3 in Nov) didn't mention the aftertaste and really liked them. We did find them very sweet though and whilst the icing was probably the best vegan icing I've tried, it still had the slight oily texture I've had with other though, the cake did as well.

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Only special occasions or parties for DD1 to take with her as she has allergies (milk and egg). They would be a good size for popping in a tub for her to take.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
They look better and more attractive. The packaging was nice as well, a lot of own brand free from items are in boring packaging. They were actually moist and fluffy which is hard to find in vegan cakes.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
I would but only for those with allergies or who are vegan, they're very expensive if you aren't specifically after vegan cakes.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Probably, but only on special occasions.

Have to add that we loved the interesting stamps ours came packaged with! Our DD1 enjoyed chatting about them over the weekend!

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
I didn't really like them and thought they had a strange aftertaste but kids loved them!

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
If I had a vegan friend coming I would probably buy them.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
More obviously vegan.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Yes, I would recommend to friends who have vegan children coming to play.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Maybe, depends on the price.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 28/08/2019 10:50

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
Both kids loved them. DH and I both thought they were ok but a bit sweet

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
Occasional treat, if they were a bit cheaper probably more often but couldn’t justify the cost too often.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
They’re vegan and yet not too ‘healthy’

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Yes, especially to fellow vegans, just being able to pick up cake in a supermarket is great

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Probably but would do so more often if a bit cheaper

Firewall · 28/08/2019 11:10

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
I didn’t like them, but kids were ok with them. They liked the icing mainly.
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for? Parties for those who require alternative.
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
The ingredients
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
Yes to those seeking an alternative to traditional cupcakes
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
Not for myself

Laura221 · 28/08/2019 11:35

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?

we loved them, and wouldn't have noticed a difference from 'normal' cupcakes. They were soft and not too sweet with just the right amount of icing which was soft and fluffy.
What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?

Well actually the test of this product was perfect as it was my daughters birthday and we had a day out planned so we took them on a picnic as a little surprise treat and she was over the moon especially when I said they were vegan as she likes to pick vegan products but there isnt usually a vegan cupcake option. They held up perfectly being carried around at a theme park too!
What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?

They came in sturdy packaging and I was massively pleased it was all recyclable. They looked more impressive and it's rare to find a nice tasting vegan cake.
Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?

Yes 100% low calorie and ethical. Super yummy too.
Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future? Yes for special occasions.

glastogal · 28/08/2019 11:40

What did you/your children think of the taste of OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes?
My toddler was keen to try them and loved the icing but wouldn't eat the cake. I thought they had a good texture for a vegan cake but there was quite a strong taste to them. I suspect a chocolate version would have gone down a lot better!

What occasions would you purchase OGGS® mini vanilla cupcakes for?
If we had guests with dairy issues or vegans coming to visit.

What makes OGGS® different from other supermarket brands?
It's not easy to locate dairy free cupcakes, especially ones so geared towards children.

Would you recommend OGGS® to a friend and why is that?
I would recommend they tried them if they were struggling to find appropriate sweet treats. I think they are an acquired taste though, not likely to be everyone's cup of tea.

Will you purchase OGGS® products in the future?
I might check out some non-vanilla flavoured options as I do think the cake texture/moisture is excellent.
